He braced both arms behind her back and gripped her shoulders. "I think it's time for number four, don't you?" he hummed against her mouth, his grin wide and devilish.

He fired two warning shots hard and fast into her, letting her get a taste of what was to come. Her eyes were glazed over with unshed tears as she climbed higher and higher. Her voice was hoarse from screaming.

"What do say when you want to come, Gia?"

Her glazed eyes bore into his as she rocked her hips against him.

"Fuck me, Flynn.” she pleaded against his mouth. “Please, let me come."

He wasted no time in complying. His dick pounded into her and she held on for dear life, her mouth paralyzed by soundless screams until she could finally gasp in a tortured breath.

"G-good...too good...coming, coming, com—" she half gasped, half screamed, writhing on his cock.

Her body couldn't seem to make up its mind; she pushed him away with one hand and clasped him to her with the other. Her nails dug into his chest and back as she pumped against him, her mouth attacking his shoulder and neck.

The last of her orgasm was coursing through her and this time he couldn't ignore her pussy sucking the sweet release from his body. He convulsed against her, groaning in her ear as he shot his load into the condom. She shivered weakly against him while the last of his thrusts created aftershocks inside her. He almost collapsed on top of her but he braced a shaky arm on the bed and cradled her to him so that she wouldn't get crushed under his weight. His hips still moved slightly, riding the last of the wave.

Gia sank into the bed. She felt boneless, spent, every drop of moisture in her body pooling over their hips or covering her in a sheen of sweat. She inhaled deeply the aroma of his musk and the sex they had shared, and felt his body breathe in as well. Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale. They did this until their breath was no longer separate but as connected as their flesh and their heartbeats. She felt him wilting within her, felt the relentless fatigue coming to claim her. It made her wrap her arms and legs around him tighter, her body refusing to let him go.

Flynn melted into that grip and forced his head up so that he could look at her. Her eyes were hooded with pleasure, face flushed and Indian red around her cheeks and cute nose. Her lips were swollen and parted with her steadying breath. She looked so content and relaxed and...

"Beautiful," he whispered, his fingertips brushing the damp strands of hair away from her cheek.

He was still trying to catch his breath. Those slanted green orbs in the dim light had softened and a look of actual awe seemed to shine in them. Here she was thinking he was the beautiful one, with his hair dangling in his eyes, those freckles lining his nose, and his cheeks and chest flushed the same rosy color as his lips. She closed her eyes against the overwhelming urge to sob when he leaned down to kiss her for what would be the last time. It was a desperate, weary kiss before he pulled away.

As soon as rolled off of her, out of her, his body felt like it had been doused with ice water. He tossed the well-used condom and shivered as the air dried his wet skin. It was one of those rare moments where thoughts didn't come, like floating in a dreamless sleep, and he lay staring at the ceiling, coming back down to earth.

He had barely managed to comprehend where he was, and what he had been doing for the last several hours, when he felt the bed move. He turned to see her sitting up with great effort. She paused for a second, sweeping her hair off her sticky shoulder and he swallowed down the impulse to run his hand over the contours of her back, her ass, and those long toned thighs as she stood up on shaky legs. She was gathering her clothes off the floor and gingerly putting them back on.

She could feel his eyes on her. The silence in the room, which had only moments before been filled with the sounds of two bodies merging, was palpable.

He couldn't watch her pull on her jacket, the last thing she had to put on before she would leave, so he leaned over to reach for a cigarette and lit up.

She turned to see him sliding up to a sitting position, inhaling deeply on the smoke as if he were perfectly satisfied. As if nothing significant had happened. Her eyes took in the sight of him, memorizing his body. It would be the last time she saw it, after all.

"You can email me with whatever you need done for the project," he said, blowing out a smoke ring.

  She swallowed and said, "Fine."

As she opened the bedroom door and started to walk away he called out to her.

"Don't worry, you got what you wanted. I won't bother you again," he said.

His eyes gleamed at her, as if he were silently saying she had done well.

Her reply was an unreadable glance and then the sound of her footsteps as she walked down the hall and out the front door. He didn’t move until he heard the click of his door close, and then he blew one smoke ring after another, willing himself not to care that she hated him.

  ***

Outside, Gia was being dried by cool night air. The stars were out, partially hidden behind gauzy clouds that sped along the skyline. The trees that lined the parking lot swayed under the weight of pastel colored blossoms. It was a beautiful night, but she didn't notice it. She wasn’t aware of anything. Not finding her car, unlocking the door, or sinking into the leather seat. It wasn't until she went to put the key in the ignition, when she couldn't because her hands wouldn't stop shaking, that the tears came. Her chest heaved with uncontrollable sobs and she leaned her head against the steering wheel, crying until she was weak with exhaustion.

She had gotten exactly what she wanted. She was free from Flynn. Her body had been satiated beyond belief. And her boyfriend was none the wiser. She could finally go back to the way things were.

So, why did she feel so empty?

  CHAPTER EIGHT

“Oh God, oh Flynn, don't stop! Yeah, baby! Uh huh, do it just like that," moaned the blond pixie bent over on her bed while he pounded into her from behind.

He had no plans to stop, and he wished she would quit screeching for him not to. Every other stroke produced an over-dramatic exclamation in a high-pitched voice she must have been cultivating since high school. He smacked her ass hard, if only to make her squeal with some authenticity, and thrust her little pussy into orgasm.

Flynn closed his eyes, and beneath the darkness of his lids, he could see his hands on Gia's brown hips, hear her voice calling out his name. The image spurred him on and he came shortly after, grabbing onto the porcelain skin of Leslie’s hips while he blew his wad into the condom.

It was the kind of quick and exacting orgasm that started to fizzle almost as soon as it was over. The whole experience, from start to finish, couldn’t hold a candle to the way it felt to be inside Gia. It couldn’t compare to the way it felt to see her looking into his eyes and begging him to make her come again and again. Just thinking about her made his body ache for more, and his mind growled with the frustration of being denied who he was truly craving.

In the end, fucking Leslie had been lackluster at best, barely even worth the effort, but he needed the kind of tension release the student gym couldn't provide. He needed something to remind him that Gia was a thing of the past, one girl out of many and nothing more.

He toppled over onto his back, throwing an arm over his eyes. He was trying to catch his breath when Leslie wiggled over to him and nestled into the crook of his arm.

"Damn, baby. It's been too long!" she giggled against his chest while she peppered it with wet kisses.

He really wanted to roll over onto his side, or start getting dressed. But he knew Leslie would pass out soon, so he let her have her fun. She babbled on about work and mutual friends, and he said "yeah" and "uh huh" in the appropriate places, until she started to wind down, like she was running low on battery power. He didn't want to move in case he started to rouse her from her drowsiness. So, he lay still, forced to let his mind attack him with images of the girl he was trying to bury.

A little while later, when Leslie had finally passed out, he s
lipped out of bed, gathered up his clothes and headed out the door.

He very rarely brought girls back to his place, especially "old friends" like Leslie, preferring instead to get his fix and then go home. His friends had ragged on him about that for years, but any girl looking to hook up with him already knew the score. He’d made it perfectly clear to Leslie what they were about—and every other girl for that matter.

He strode down the stoop and out into the early morning air. It was drizzling as he walked the couple of blocks to where his car was parked.

Sneaking out of Leslie's brought his mind to the fact that Gia had been one of a few girls to see his bed in a long time. He couldn't help remembering how she’d dressed and ducked out as soon as they were finished, just like he was doing now. Had she felt the way he did with Leslie? Had she been aching to leave too?

"Whatever," he whispered, as he approached his car and unlocked the door. "Fuck her."

It had become like a mantra, the affirmation of the bitter.

He’d decided to skip class for the rest of the week just to give himself a break. There was no reason that after everything they’d done, after everything she had let him do, that Gia should still be on his mind. However, he found that just like before, at the most inopportune times, there would be something to remind him of her, something that would make his body throb and his chest ache. He’d made that deal with her specifically to escape this merry-go-round of thoughts, and he wanted to get off already.

Before Flynn realized it, he was in the parking lot of his apartment complex, finding a spot and pulling in. He hadn't seen anything on the ride home, as if he were on autopilot. It was how he felt most of the time now.

Inside his apartment, he showered quickly, pulled on some sweat pants, and turned on his computer. He had to check his email and finish up the last of several papers he had due the following week. Four new messages waited for him, but the one that stood out in his inbox was from the girl whose image had been following him relentlessly.

He read it over and over. He went to close it and read it again. And then he shook his head.

"It's just the work she sent you, douchebag,” he chastised himself. “Move on already."

He did. But, not before staring at her name a second longer than was necessary.

  ***

It had been a long and tedious week, but somehow Gia got through it. She’d decided that drowning in hysterics after leaving Flynn's was just the culmination of weeks of stress. She had tests and projects, impending finals, work, and a neglected boyfriend to contend with. It was only natural that it would all come bubbling to the surface. It had absolutely nothing to do with Flynn; he was just the catalyst.

That's why sitting in front of the computer staring at the work Flynn had emailed was bothering her. There was nothing hidden between the lines, no message. Just the attachment and the subject of the email stared back at her, and yet her eyes were riveted over the sender's name.

  "Cameron Flynn," she whispered.

Funny; she had never said his first name before. But now it rolled off her tongue, blending together with the name she’d called out in his bed as she writhed over him. It felt like a lifetime since she’d said his name anywhere but in her head. It felt like even longer than that since she’d seen him. He hadn't been in class all week.

Gia leaned back in her chair, feeling herself start to sink into another depressing fog. She didn't have time for this. She should just turn off the damn computer if it was going to be this much of a distraction. She reached for the mouse, intending to do just that, but for some reason she swirled it around the Reply icon. Shouldn't she let him know she had gotten the work? It probably wasn't necessary, but maybe he was waiting for a reply.

And thus began a game of Type-then-Delete.

He had agreed to never bother her again. She should return the favor by not encouraging him to do so. Still, she liked to consider herself a civilized human being. She would write something and then they could go back to pretending the other didn't exist. That's what her mind was saying when she typed two words and hit send before she could change her mind: Thank you.

She sighed again and lay her head in her arms, feeling strangely defeated.

"You...are a loser," she murmured. "A very polite loser."

  ***

"Gia, you just totally missed that!"

Gia turned to her roommate Rosie, who had just spoken, and then to their friend Kate. Confused, she followed their gazes until she saw the group of guys they had just passed, who were obviously pleased with the way the girls were put together. The cute Puerto Rican with the shaved head liked Gia in particular, and she returned a shy smile over her shoulder before turning back to the path.

"See, that, right there," Kate said, jerking her thumb behind her towards their passing admirers, "is what I need. A man. Plain and simple."

Rosie laughed, her white teeth a bright contrast against her dark chocolate skin. She shook her head at Kate the way a mother would with an impatient child. It was a cute irony, if only because Rosie, at just barely five feet tall, had somehow managed to get away with being the surrogate mother of their group, even though she didn’t look a day over sixteen years old herself.

With Kate’s supermodel looks and outgoing personality, it was only a matter of time before she caught a guy in her clutches, so Gia could understand Rosie not taking Kate’s single-woman woes too seriously. It made her shake her head, too. She wouldn’t wish her attached-woman woes on anyone.

"Men are more trouble than they're worth," Gia said.

"Easy for you to say! You've already got a hot boyfriend that's crazy about you. Give me that kind of trouble over the single kind any day," Kate said, flipping her blonde hair over her shoulder with a sigh.

"Crazy about me, huh?" she said, too quietly for either of them to hear.

She wished Kate knew how much she wondered if that were true, how confusing being attached could be. It was ironic, because for the longest time she’d been like Kate, thirsting for a companion. Now, it made her think ‘be careful what you wish for’ was a rule thought up just for her. She didn’t let it get to her, however. She plastered on a smile, breathed in the fresh spring air and put one foot in front of the other.

It was Friday, and they were all headed back from the cafeteria towards the small field where Luca was playing flag football with some friends. She was going to watch for a bit, and maybe start some of the relationship damage control she had been neglecting.

Her smile widened when the fenced in field came into view and she saw Luca with the ball, running with the easy stride of a natural born athlete. Her eyes were riveted to his strong calves kicking up behind him. He was only a few yards away from a touchdown before he was tagged.

As she entered the gate, Gia put her fingers in her mouth and let out a whistle that carried across the field. Some of the other spectators cheered or booed, but he could recognize her whistle anywhere, and when Luca looked up and smiled in her direction, she couldn't help smiling back. She turned away when she felt the sudden prickling sensation of being watched intently. Her eyes sought out the cause until they connected with Ashley's, who was sitting in the grass a little farther down the field. She waved at Gia, and immediately put on a big friendly smile that didn’t reach her eyes.

Gia leaned against the fence to watch the rest of the game. Luca's team lost, but the smack talk was all in good fun as the other team made their victory rounds. He made his way over to her with a mock puppy dog pout.

"Aw, that's okay, baby. You're still a winner in my eyes." She chuckled when he came in for a kiss. He seemed surprised when she held onto his lips longer than their usual peck lasted.

"I should lose more often," Luca laughed.

She smiled, but her peripheral vision couldn't help but sense a certain cute brunette trying not to watch them.

"Well, if you're really feeling down, I’m off from work two days in a row this week. You can come over if you want."<
br />
His dimpled grin came out full force as he registered her meaning. "Definitely," he said. "I'm going to need lots of consoling. And hugs! And kisses!"

She laughed, dodging him when he tried to wrap her in his sweaty arms and rub his face in her neck. She put her hands on his strong chest to keep him at bay while he rested his hands on her hips.

"Then come over at ten o'clock, or so. Rosie should be going over to Mike's by then, and Lauren's packing up to go home for the weekend," she said, referring to her roommates. He nodded, and gave her another kiss before heading over to the crowd gathered around Ashley and her spectators.

"See what I mean," Kate groaned and rolled her crystal blue eyes, as they exited the fenced in field and started back on the path towards their apartment. "So unfair. I need a boyfriend."

"You know, no relationship is perfect," Rosie said, glancing up at Kate. "Mike does things that make me want to push him out of a third story window sometimes. I'm sure Luca is the same way. Right, Gia?"

She nodded, her eyes trailing Ashley, who was currently scruffing up Luca’s dark hair.

"Yeah," Gia said, forcing a smile. "Nobody's perfect."

  ***

"Feels good?" Luca asked as he thrust steadily in and out of her.

She whispered, "Yes," into the crook of his neck and held onto him tightly.

Her mind was playing tricks on her. Gia could have sworn it was Flynn's voice asking her, commanding her, to tell him how good it felt, instead of Luca's hushed whisper. She grasped Luca tighter, her arms and legs gripping him against the fear of another man invading their moment.

Luca leaned down to kiss her, and she accepted his mouth eagerly, trying her hardest not to feel Flynn's lips or pretend that the warm breath against her neck was his. She was getting close, and she lifted her hips to receive him, forcing him to enter her harder as the speed of his thrusts picked up. She wanted him to be rougher, faster, and she bit her lip against the strange melancholy that overcame her. Yes, she was coming. Yes, it felt good. But, his effect on her was like the reflected light of the moon, pale and shadowy in comparison to the sun, and her body wouldn't let her deny it.
