Wrapping her fingers around his dick, she slid her hand up and down, stroking him. He made a noise that sounded more animalistic than a human and closed his large hand around hers. His entire palm almost covered her, making her realize just how much she was dwarfed by his size.
“Tell me you want me.”
“I want you.”
In an instant, Kade pulled her to him, crushing his lips to hers. His tongue swept inside her mouth, exposing the aroma of her sex. The aroma of her own passion hit her taste buds, driving home a lust she didn’t realize she was even capable of. The scent and flavor of her own juices intensified her need for him.
Breathlessly, she whispered into his kiss, “Kade, fuck me.”
His eyes flashed open and his motions halted. He stood there, completely still as he penetrated her with his stare. Her chest rose and fell as she fought for air in the heated room. Every part of her body felt as if it was going to burst into flames. Her pussy hurt with emptiness.
“Say it again.”
His words came out like a musician, playing a magical tune as he strummed every chord of her libido to perfect harmony. He wasn’t asking her, he wasn’t begging, he was telling her.
“Fuck me, Kade.”
He mumbled something under his breath she didn’t understand. Before she could even ask what it had been, her entire body shook as he drove into her with such force the table slid several inches across the floor.
She screamed into the quiet room, her wail joined by the sound of skin slapping against skin. He didn’t slow down. Not for a second did he diminish his pace. He pounded into her harder and faster every time.
He grabbed onto her hips, holding her body still for him as he fucked her just as she’d asked. Her pussy stretched with his thickness, accepting and hungrily craving more all at once. Kade slammed deep into her pussy. She shook as he continued to pummel her body. She could feel him cutting through her defenses, slicing through her fears with every thrust of his cock.
“Touch yourself. Make yourself come.”
At that point, he probably could have told her to jump off a bridge and she would have done it. The way he took her body made her putty in his hands. She brought her hand down to her wet slit and found her clit. It was swollen, sensitive and desperate for pressure.
She strummed her finger on it, plucking at the taut nub, working it just right. Screams tore from her, loud and piercing shouts. She could feel the edge. It was just beyond her reach as she pushed and rubbed at her clit. The friction from Kade combined with her own finger finally pushed her over the brink.
She opened her mouth but no sounds came. It hung open in a silent screech as her womb exploded. Molten lava poured from her body, covering Kade’s cock as he continued to pound against her pussy. His balls slapped against her with every thrust, and as the tremble of her sensitive clit urged her to pull her hand away, he reached down and held it there.
This time, the scream broke free. The orgasm she thought she’d just had suddenly melted into a puddle as she felt the second wave thrash across her body. She bucked beneath him, her body quivering with every second she flew.
Kade grunted and cursed into the air, his sounds mingling with her breathless attempts at shouting. His cock swelled and with first one, then two, and finally three deep and powerful thrusts, he came.
He held onto her and their bodies shook and shuddered as they heaved, searching for breath. Her lungs felt empty, as if she hadn’t had oxygen for days and not just seconds. She wished he would say something to break the silence between them, but just as they’d done the night before, they remained quiet.
Seconds passed and then minutes before either of them moved. He pulled out of her and once again hurried to the bathroom. She got a glimpse of his ass this time. A good glimpse, at that, and it was one hell of a good-looking one. Not that anything about Kade Riley wasn’t a delicious treat for her to devour. She couldn’t help but wonder how much fun it would be to conquer that massive mountain of chocolate and lick up every bit of his syrupy sweetness.
Chapter Fourteen
Kade took a bite of his meatloaf and chewed quietly. There was an awkward silence between him and Patreece that he didn’t care for. After their impromptu kitchen romp, she had pulled back from him. Not a lot, but enough for him to notice. It perplexed him that she could be so wanton and brazen one minute, then immediately turn around and appear bashful in the next. He glanced at her a few times, catching her stare. Each time, she’d look away before he had a chance to read what her eyes were saying.
By the time they dressed and sat down to eat, dinner had gotten cold. The playful banter the two of them had shared upon his arrival was no longer present. She wasn’t being rude, just quiet. It was the kind of reticent behavior he’d expect on a first date, not after having slept with a woman twice. He wondered if maybe that was what was troubling her. Their lack of dates or him courting her in any way shape or form. Sure, he had made attempts to get to know her, even laying on the charm. Did that really matter, though? At the end of day four of knowing her, he’d already fucked her twice and done nothing more than pick her up some takeout. Maybe she was a romance kind of girl. He considered the thought. If it was romance she wanted, he could make that happen.
“So, I was thinking. What do you say we go out on a date?”
She looked up at him, a look of surprise etched on her face. She quickly covered her mouth and finished chewing her bite of potatoes before answering, “Um…Okay. I guess we could do that. What do you have in mind?”
“I don’t care. Whatever you want. Well, within reason, that is. I mean, I don’t have a limousine or anything like that.”
“Are there any places to go around here besides your parents’ café?”
Her question made him curious, wondering if she was going to feel uneasy around his parents. “Ah, is that what is worrying you? Would you be uncomfortable there?”
“No, Kade. It’s not that at all. I just thought, well, I mean…”
Oh, for the love of God woman, spit it out. The words screamed inside his head, but he thought it best not to voice them aloud. “You thought…what, exactly?”
“Well, please don’t take this the wrong way. But I wondered if maybe that would be awkward for you.”
“Um, not sure if this will come as a surprise to you or not, but I pretty much eat at that café all the time. I’m not much of a cook unless you’re in the mood for something that can be charred on the grill. And let’s face it, seasons around here can kind of limit you in that capacity. Besides, my parents’ place has just about everything I look for in a restaurant. It’s cheap, it’s good and I know the cook won’t spit in my food no matter how big of a pain in the ass I can be.”
Patreece burst into laughter. A piece of meat flew out of her mouth and landed on Kade’s cheek. Her eyes widened in horror and she started to apologize. He wiped his cheek with his palm and placed the hunk of meatloaf into his napkin. He was happy to see that unguarded side of her return, even if it was at his expense.
She had a beautiful laugh. It went along perfectly with everything else that she was. There were so many things about her that entranced him. Her body, the way she moved when she was aroused. Her skin, the way it looked more as if an artist had painted the perfect hues to canvas. And her eyes. Damn, but her eyes were something to behold, so magnificent in the way they could sparkle and shine from the different emotions she was undergoing.
“Kade, I am so sorry. You must think I’m a pig.” She leaned over and wiped his cheek with her napkin.
He took her hand and set her napkin on the table. Then, pulling her fingers open, he kissed her palm before linking their fingers together. He saw her soften then and made a mental note to remember that the little gestures seemed to mean a great deal to her.
“Actually, I think you’re pretty terrific.”
She didn’t say a word. No answer or softly whispered, bashful response. She just watched him, just as she had so many t
imes before. He couldn’t help but wonder what went through her mind when she got like that. Under his touch, he could make her do and say the most amazing things. His gut still clenched from the memory of having her beg to be fucked. Things like that, the way her voice trembled when she spoke to him, they drove him wild. It was this quiet Patreece he didn’t really know at all. The other woman, the one who he could make writhe beneath his touch, that one he understood. Those layers he could work with. This other side made him feel as though he was barreling down a highway doing eighty while wearing a blindfold.
“What is it? What are you thinking about when you get like this?”
His question obviously surprised her as much as it had himself. He hadn’t meant to ask it. The words just slipped out. He could see from the look on her face she wasn’t exactly happy with it, either. She pulled her hand away and placed them both in her lap, looking down at her food.
“Don’t do that.”
She looked up at him. He could see the sadness in her eyes. She was no longer smiling as she had been just seconds before. He chided himself for being the idiot who removed her smile. Yet he wasn’t entirely sure he was sorry for asking it. He’d had a lot of girlfriends in his adult years. He’d had lovers, both casual and more serious. None of them ever made him as curious as Patreece Warren did, though. There was something different about her, as if she were a puzzle he knew he needed to solve. It would drive him crazy if he didn’t.
“Patreece…talk to me.”
“I don’t know what you want me to say,” she answered.
“Tell me who you are. Tell me why you are like this.”
“What am I like?” she asked with annoyance.
“Come on, don’t get mad. I didn’t mean it like that. Or in a bad way. I just…I hate when you get so quiet. It’s as if you go somewhere else.”
“I’m sorry. I don’t mean to.”
He watched her reaction and listened to her words. She was being cautious. Whether it was intentional or subconscious, he could sense she was careful in her responses. He wondered why. Could someone have hurt her? The possibility struck a nerve with him. The idea that anyone had harmed her filled him with fury. She was so tiny. Her body almost too skinny. At most, she probably weighed one hundred and twenty pounds. He dropped his hands to his sides so she wouldn’t see his hands clench into fists.
“You don’t have to apologize to me. I’m not looking for that.”
“What are you looking for, Kade? What is this? What are we doing?”
Her question surprised him, but he was glad that she was stepping out of her comfort zone and taking the lead a little bit. It was probably the most honest thing she’d said since they’d had sex. Was this another layer to her peeling away? All he could do was hope.
“Come here.” He held out his hand to her and pulled her to his lap. “Look, I don’t know how to tell you this, and I’m sure it’s going to come as a shock to you. But the truth is…I kinda like you.” He winked.
A warm and genuine smile spread across her face. “You do, huh?”
“Yeah. In fact, I’m pretty damn attracted to you.”
“You don’t say?” She placed a hand to her heart. “I gotta say, this comes as quite a shock. You really masked your feelings well.”
He chuckled at her sarcasm. This was what he wanted to see, the carefree spirit that he’d hoped was hidden beneath her guarded exterior. Not the guarded and timid one. The woman who she was when she stopped trying to be something she wasn’t.
“I know. I’m quite the actor.” He pointed to his chest. “Academy Award material here. Sure, I could have gone into the movies, moved to Hollywood and made millions. I could have even lived in luxury, among palm trees, sunshine and warm, sandy beaches. But who wants all that when you can make an honest living in a small town where the snowfall can strand you for days?”
“Oh, yeah. Freezing your tushy off sounds much more glamorous.”
“Exactly.” He grinned, happy to see her smiling again. “But I guess I should answer your question now that I dropped that bombshell on you.”
“That would be nice.”
“All right, well, here’s the deal. I do like you. We have chemistry, and I’m not seeing anyone else. Nor do I plan to. I’m sure there are lots of assholes out there who have casual relationships, but I’m not one of them. I like to treat a lady right. And if you let me, I’d like to show you that not all men are jerks.”
“I never said they were.”
He heard her answer but didn’t believe a word. She hadn’t convinced him that her opinion of men wasn’t low. In fact, he’d chosen his words carefully since he was pretty positive a man was behind her odd yo-yo emotions.
“I know you didn’t. I’m just saying. There are good guys out there. And I’m one of them.”
She touched his cheek and gave him a small kiss. “I think maybe you just might be.”
“Might be? Shit, woman. This guy here is pretty much da bomb!” He made a sad attempt at trying to sound like those gangster-type thugs in the movies but couldn’t pull it off.
“Ah…don’t try that again,” she teased.
“Not very cool, huh?”
“Not so much.”
“Well, I do have other some other skills.” He waggled his brows.
“You do? Hmm, I wonder what those could be. Do you have a résumé?”
Her playfulness was turning him on and he wished he could somehow harness this side to her. Maybe tuck it away in a bottle and save it for another time when she was guarded.
“A résumé? Not really. I’m more of a hands-on kinda guy. You know, really give you the experience and not a lot of talk.”
“Well, how are you with plumbing? Not sure if you know this or not, but I could really use a good plumber.”
“Baby, I am really good with the pipes. I can snake that drain and make sure everything is nice and wet like a Slip’N Slide.”
They both burst out laughing. Their cheesy attempts at dirty talk laced with euphemisms as old as the porn industry were too much for him to contain it. The way her eyes lit up when she let those walls down and just let go of whatever she was holding onto made her more beautiful.
“That was really bad. ‘Snake the drain’? Who says that?” She mocked him.
“Haters gonna hate.” He shrugged.
He must have been on a role because the more he said, the more hysterics he caused. She was holding her stomach from laughing so hard. Her eyes watered as she tried to control herself. And all he could think was that he was going to have to start compiling jokes for future use. She came alive when she laughed. Not quite in the same way her body did underneath his touch, but he was willing to take what he could get when it came to his Patreece.
The unconscious thought took him by surprise. He couldn’t remember feeling possessive over a woman before. He’d had girlfriends, a few semi-serious ones. None of them seemed to matter to him as much as Patreece did, though. His Patreece. It had a nice ring to it. The two words were simple enough. It was what they implied when they were put together. That’s what made them so important to him.
Four days ago he met her. Yesterday he was ready to tell her off. And now he’d been hit with the startling realization he didn’t just like her—this wasn’t merely chemistry. He was falling for her. Kade Riley was a taken man.
Chapter Fifteen
Patreece was browsing through the pots-and-pans section of Hal’s Household Goods when she saw a pig-shaped oven mitt that brought a smile to her face. She picked it up, grinning at the snout where the thumb would go. Back in St. Helena, her mother had one that looked a lot like it. In fact, most of her mother’s kitchen was decorated in farm-animal motif. The type of animal didn’t matter as long as it could be found on a farm. The tops of her cabinets were lined with figurines, both small and large, of roosters, cows, pigs and even a couple of goats. Both of her parents had an eclectic style about them. They didn’t worry about what anyone thought. They decora
ted their home with only one purpose in mind, making themselves happy.
God, how she missed them. So many times she considered picking up the phone and calling just to say hi and to let them know she was all right. She knew they had to be worried sick. That was the worst part of it all. Missing them was hard on her, but she didn’t want them to have to suffer as well. Without her parents’ love and support, she never would have survived her marriage to Carl.
Looking back on how their whirlwind romance turned into marriage so quickly, she wished she would have slowed down and really gotten to know the man before standing at that altar. Her parents had tried to warn her something seemed off. Her father had even pulled her aside right before he walked her down the aisle to explain to her that it wasn’t too late. There was still time to walk away from it all, he’d said. Oh, how she wished she had opened her ears long enough to listen.
She had been blinded by Carl. She had been a young and naïve twenty years old when he had swept into her life as if he were Prince Charming to her Cinderella. With his fancy car and impeccable manners, he’d had her exactly where he wanted her, right smack-dab in the palm of his hand. She’d been such a damn fool. Young and naïve to the point of utter stupidity. She tried her best to remember the good times, telling herself he wasn’t always so bad. The problem with that was the more she grew up and realized what he was doing to her, the more she realized there hadn’t been any good times. Her inexperience with men and dating had caused her to mistake his behavior for love and protectiveness.
Even now, nearly a year after her marriage had been dissolved, she couldn’t help but be angry at herself for allowing it to happen. She didn’t care much what those self-help books for victims told her. Whether it was appropriate or not for the victim to blame herself, she did. The memories of the first hints of his domineering and controlling behavior were still as fresh in her mind now as they were the day they happened. His possessive nature was immediate. Her parents had noticed it from the get-go. They’d pleaded with her to slow down and not rush into anything.
