Specter's Wake

Scythe pounded the gavel on the table, calling Church to a close. We all stood up and looked around. A lot of us were wounded, but the Armada was stronger than ever, and the little pieces of corruption that may still be lurking were slowly being weeded out. It would only be a matter of time before Scythe returned the Armada to the legendary status it once had. I know his father would be so proud of him right now.
Scythe stopped me and handed me a patch. “Cut that shit off your back and slap this shit on there. You’re a prospect no more, brother. Never were in the first place.” I held the patch in my hand, allowing my trembling hands to show a silent moment of weakness.
“It’s okay. I know how much this means to you. Take it in, enjoy it. You deserve it, JD. Speaking of deserve, I got a spot open for a Sergeant at Arms, you interested?”
I looked up at him in disbelief. “Are you sure? Wouldn’t Ice be a better pick?”
“Ice is happy being an Enforcer. I asked him if he was interested, and he said he wasn’t interested in any job where he couldn’t beat people up just for the hell of it. Cipher said no as well. He likes his life behind a computer. I’m not saying you were my last pick; you were my first of course, but because they were patched in before you, a technicality we both can overlook, I had to ask them first. The title is yours if you want it. There’s no other man I’d want fighting by my side and protecting me, other than you.”
“That’s a shit ton of responsibility, Scythe. I dunno if I’m ready for it.”
“You planning on leaving again or something?” His eyes narrowed, as if he was expecting me to disappear for seven years again.
Little did he know, I had no plans on going anywhere any time soon. There was a ring burning a hole in my pocket, and a woman at home that I was about to drop down on one knee for. This ghost had found his roots and was planning on staying for good.
“Nah, Man, no plans here. I’m right where I need to be. If you really think I can handle the job, then yes, I’ll be happy to accept that patch and responsibility. You got yourself a Sergeant at Arms.”
He slapped the extra patch in my hand and smiled. “Welcome to the Devil’s Armada, Specter, Sergeant at Arms. You’re in for one fucking hell of a ride.”

Cipher’s Code Synopsis
Book Two in the Devil’s Armada
Brotherhood vs. Honor.
There’s a difference between right and wrong, and I crossed that line the moment I swore in as the newest member of the Devil’s Armada. My job was simple: Infiltrate the Armada, get the intel, and burn the whole club to the ground.
Loyalty and Dishonor sometimes walk hand in hand, because I never anticipated the sacrifice I would make in the name of brotherhood.
Now I’m on the frontlines among men who I’ve grown to respect, even though they have no idea there’s a snake in their grass.
I was supposed to be already gone, but the second I met Daisy and her lips of corruption, I couldn’t stay away. Now, I’ll do anything to get her back, even working alongside the enemy in order to find her—an enemy that’s even more tempting the woman I’m hell bent to find.
My heart is a divided mess, and if picking one woman wasn’t hard enough, I must also decide where my allegiance lies . . .
On the shoulders of my brothers or the Code I choose to live by.
