Chapter 3
Understanding
I can feel my soul still spinning. Oh god! At least I'm still alive...
“System, what happened?”
Replying to the host: You hit an unknown object, and because of the impact and the stress on the soul, you fainted. After that, the System found some spare life energy to help you heal your soul. A few days later, you stopped rolling. Some skills have also evolved.
Well, that was lucky, at least now I have my soul healed, let's check my changes—I can feel I'm quite different. I see now that my soul is healed.. my soul has a human form, I feel so pure, it's like I was just born, how is this possible?
“System, show soul status.”
Soul: Peak-stage Human Soul Realm.
“What's that?” My mind remained quiet looking at this new information. This should mean that I was healed right?
The database is empty. Impossible to properly answer to the host. The System can only detect and reply what your soul has transmitted to the System.
“System, scan me!”
Scanning…
Name: Unknown.
Race: Unknown.
Age: 7 days.
Body: Nobody.
Death Core: Lvl 1.
Soul: Peak-stage Human Soul Realm.
Status: Dead.
XP 55
Death Points: 0
Functions: Scan: On, Quest.
Functions Sealed: Bloodline, Inventory.
Passive Skills: Advanced Soul Resistance Lvl 1 / 10, Rolling, Rolling, Rolling Lvl 1 / 10.
Okay, I can see some skills have evolved, I will look later... mmm... Death Core? I focused my mind intensely on it to see what it was...
Death Core Lvl 1: The dead core is fused with the host soul. Enables host to absorb Death Aura and gain Death Points. Makes the host status Dead.
More or less I understood, I think, so this is the reason why it shows I'm dead... makes a bit of sense since I'm a Death Core...
◆◆◆
After finding out about the Death Core I tried to explore a bit what I could do with it, actually nothing worked, so right now it's pretty much useless except for rolling. I also found out that I was seven days old... it seems that was when my soul healed, I was just born, the System explained that it must be some kind of anomaly due to my death. So, it seems like I'm a reincarnation but at the same time, I'm not. Sigh... I hope I can find more information in the future... I searched all my memories with the System’s help and I didn't find the reason how I ended up with this Death Core.
I keep feeling my memories are not complete... especially since I can't remember my name!
One more month went by, this time, I didn’t find anything while rolling so I didn't gain any XP. I rolled and rolled everyday until I was unable to roll any further, still nothing. The only thing I could do, was to assess my current situation, and try to think of how to improve things. Lucky for me, in my previous life I read some novels that I somehow remembered when my soul was healed, and I can guess a little about my soul cultivation, though I don't have any real reference on the possible realms in this world. This totally sucks, I need more information in order to advance.
Let's keep rolling!
Ding!
Obtained a rare bloodline Red Hawk. +1 XP.
Quest #2: Obtain 3 more bloodlines. Rewards: Common Death Bloodline.
“Finally, a new quest!” Hopefully, I can complete it soon, after all now that my soul is healed, I can finally see with my soul. I can expand my soul and sense everything within fifty meters. I can tell I'm in some kind of desert, it is to be expected that I can only find so few things—who would want to be in an endless desert!
Like this, the time went by... in an unknown place, there was a strange ball rolling and rolling, approaching a green zone.
◆◆◆
Ding!
Congratulations host, on discovering a new zone, forest, +1 XP.
“Stingy System, you could at least give me more XP! Wait!” I started thinking, and so far I only used XP to heal my soul before... so now what am I going to do with my XP?
XP: 100.
“System, what can I do with the XP I won, right now?”
Replying to the host: You can use the XP to level-up any skill or improve your realm.
Displaying XP values on host data.

I guess one hundred XP won't help me at the moment, I better save it. Most likely, later I will need it.
◆◆◆
Seriously this forest is too strange, even for me. I hope I don't encounter something violent and crazy that tries to kill me.
I kept moving slowly and tried to make the least amount of sound as possible, what If something tried to eat me or murder me? After all, I'm not sure yet how resistant I am, not that I want to find out though.
Slow, slow, move carefully and without a sound.
Crash!!!
“Shit!” I crushed something with my “body,” and stopped immediately. Please hopefully, nothing bad happens... while my mind was thinking all the bad stuff that I could imagine, the System interrupted my thoughts.
Warning Warning, an unknown life creature is approaching.
I got ready to roll really fast, in case I needed to escape. The creature was approaching me from somewhere I couldn’t see, but when I saw what it was I was really scared! A wolf, a huge huge wolf! What's wrong with this world... how come there is a four meter tall wolf! Fuck, fuck, I'm dead, dead for sure!!! I was ready to roll at my fastest speed, but I doubted that my fastest speed would be any faster than this gigantic wolf but I had to try... uh?! I carefully looked at the wolf and it was looking down at the ground. It raised its head, and it was clear that it was staring at me, but why does it seem that the wolf can't see me? Thinking about this, I had to try something.
“System, scan the wolf.”
Black Wolf.
Realm: King Wild Beast.
Unable to provide more information, please fill the database.
After a few minutes, the black wolf was gone... I was totally dumbfounded, the goddess of luck must be on my side.
“Hahahahahaha, close call. System, do you know why the wolf didn't see me?”
Replying to the host, your status is ‘dead.’ Anything that scans you, will detect you as a dead thing like an inanimate object. Besides, you are a tiny ball covered in dust after rolling so much...
Chapter 4
First kill
After the System replied to my question, I remained unmoved.... I ceased moving completely... my ball body stood still, and was accumulating dust. What did the System say? Am I still dead? Yeah, I know I'm dead, but dead as in dead like a corpse? A zombie...?
This is perfect, too perfect! That means, no one can detect me! This way nothing can harm me... I laughed like a maniac.
Ding!
Detecting Host Status going insane.
Alerting the host, warning, warning, please calm down!
Oh great! It's a good thing that the System has this kind of function. I can avoid the thought of losing my mind, and going into berserk mode. It's strange though, that I almost went crazy before I had form, before when I was a ball.
“Thanks System, for giving me my sanity back.”
/> The host is dead and if something tries to scan your body, they will not find it, but if the host moves... it will appear on the scanner the same as if any other object were moving...
Crap... how come I'm that stupid, if back then I moved, the wolf would have seen a ball moving around. All right, if I stop moving I will look like a normal, sitting ball...
One ball was moving through the forest—not fast, not slow, but carefully, moving up, down, left, right collecting trash. Rolling and rolling.
◆◆◆
Ding!
Detected an unknown beast nearby.
“Scan”
Rabbit. Realm: Normal Beast.
I stopped moving, as expected the rabbit didn't see me at all. To him I must be a rock, or something similarly round-like. I doubt a rabbit will hurt or kill me or eat me, but better safe than sorry. I will wait for the rabbit to leave.
One day later...
Damn why is the rabbit still there, I’ve been sitting here forever...
Maybe I should move over there and just ignore the rabbit... it's a rabbit after all, what could it do? The System said it's a normal beast hmmm... I think I will move.
I rolled...
Ding!
Detected killing intent directed at the host.
Alerting the host ready to engage in combat.
Rabbit is launching an attack.
What-what-what? Killing intent? Seriously, a rabbit? I panicked, what do I do? I'm not ready to fight! How do I fight?! I'm a ball!! Avoid, I must avoid the rabbit! Let's roll!
BANG!
It was too late. I learned something, thinking too much in a fight is not appropriate or a good strategy. I got hit! It sent me flying a few meters, I felt nothing... oh! I don't have a body. Is it that I cannot feel pain if something hits the Death Core?!
Core Integrity: 100%
Huh? Zero percent damage I don't understand... I got distracted again at the thought of my stats. Before I knew it, the rabbit had bitten me.
CRACK!
The rabbit’s tooth got crushed, it seems I'm hard enough to crush a rabbit’s tooth! Ha-ha, suits you damn rabbit. The rabbit jumped around me like crazy, its eyes were getting dark, the fur, everything...
I remained unmoved looking how the poor rabbit who was trying to kill me decomposed and rotted.
Ding!
Congratulations on your first kill! +100 XP.
Congratulations on getting Rabbit common bloodline. Do you wish to absorb it?
“Yes.”
Quest #2 updated 2 / 3.
“Huh? System what the hell? What happened to the rabbit? Scan it.”
Scanning...
Death Core +1 XP.
Death Points +1
Replying to the host, the Rabbit got poisoned by the Death Core. It could not survive the poison and died.
What! I'm poisonous?
Yes.
That's a good thing. If I'm poisonous, it means better chances to survive. It seems killing gave me Death Core and Death Points. Maybe I could have killed that big wolf? I need to figure out how much damage I can do... strange I didn't learn a poison skill to accompany my ability... or something. If I'm poisonous wouldn't that mean that poison does zero damage against me? I am dead... which means the poison is ineffective to dead things right? Argh, I think that... I'm not making any sense.
Ding!
Congratulations on unlocking your first Trait: Poison Immunity.
Poison Immunity: Immunity to any poison.
“Good! Good! What great news.” I said while laughing. The laughter on my mind sounded cruel and full of murder, but it felt good, so good I couldn’t stop.
Detecting Host going crazy.
“It's time to kill! I will kill everything around me, everyone will die!” I was laughing like a possessed madman.
Alerting the host, warning, warning, please calm down!
Forcing the host to faint!
◆◆◆
Did I die? Where am I? Oh yeah, I'm dead to start with.
I recovered my alertness and consciousness. Expanding my soul, I found that I was back to where I was when fighting with the rabbit. The only thing that remained from the rabbit was the bones, I guess a beast had eaten the rabbit meat.
“What happened? Why did I faint? System, would you mind explaining it to me?”
After your first kill, your mind started to go out of control. The System forced the host to faint, for self-preservation.
This is annoying... me fainting every time I get a little scratch. I lost total control of myself, it was strange... I was trying to remember how my attitude was before and then I found out how comfortable it felt after my first kill, I could feel the desire for blood, I wanted more of it, it was all too natural for me—as if death was the only thing I knew. Sigh... what could I expect being a Death Core... it seems like it's affecting my mood already. I will have to learn how to control it! It won't control me!
“Let's keep rolling! Nothing will stop my path!”
◆◆◆
Several days later.
Ding!
Congratulations on killing a wild bear! +50 XP.
Wait. How did I kill a bear? This is too strange... oh could it be that the bear ate the rabbit?
Congratulations on getting rare Wind Bear bloodline. Do you wish to absorb it?
“Yes.”

Wielder of Time: Unlock Time Talent. Time Talent: 3-Red.
Unlocked Trait: Poison Knowledge.
Poison Knowledge: Knowledge regarding any poison. No one knows more about Poison than you.
“Holy shit!” I exclaimed after receiving all the information for the system, it really was too much to digest.
This time I earned big! Okay. Let's check all this cool stuff out...
Good, now I have talents in Death, Darkness and Time, though I know nothing about the rankings of them. I suppose Orange should be a higher rank than Red, I'm a Death Core, so my main talent should be Death.
The Poison Knowledge should come in handy. Well poisons don't affect me, but maybe I can earn money or something making poisons for others to kill who they want. Huh? Wait what am I thinking? To kill people? Where did this thought come from... Geez, even though my first thought is killing people, so far I haven't found a single soul in this desolate place. Anyway, I could also try to earn money with the poison... helping people. It would be strange though, someone thinking all the time about killing, to go around helping people. I don't have a body, so my priority is to find or create someone or something, erm... I feel stupid after reading so many novels in my previous life that I'm still a newbie at this.
“System how can I create a body?”
Replying to the host, suggesting fusing Death Core and Bloodline
with some dead bodies.
“System why does it sound like I need many bodies?”
Due to the purity of the death from the Death Core, not all the bodies are suitable. The host will need to gather dead bodies and refine them to fulfill the requirements needed for the fusion.
I understood, after creating my body I can use the Death Tempering to grow more connected and stronger with my new body. My bloodline also granted me an Avatar of Death body transformation. It seems in this status I will be temporarily stronger, but it consumes death points every second... that's a lot. I will need to gather five points at least to launch an attack, I think. So far, I only have two death points which I got from killing two beasts. Well, no point in thinking about this, after all without a body I can't do anything.
I would never have imagined that I would have the perfect skill to be a fortune teller, ha-ha! With Dead End, I can bullshit around. It's so tiring being alone… I thought.
“System do you know about the talent tiers?”
Replying to the host, the database is empty. Unable to answer!
Why is the System always messing with me? How come there are always things he knows and others things it doesn't?
“System Scan me!”
