“You have no choice. If I need to hold you down to take it, then I’ll do that,” Silas added.
“I just need to get some warm water and it will be ready,” the nurse said.
“I can at least do it myself,” Rowan begged in a whisper when he came to stand beside her, his hand at the top of her head. “Please, Silas,” she added as she watched Dr. Stone prepare the tubing.
“I’m sorry, Rowan,” Silas said, sitting down beside her on the bed as the nurse returned. “This is for your own good.” He ran his hands up along her arms, then held her hands and made her look at him. “I won’t leave you alone, I’ll be here with you the whole time. Now lie down on your belly and pull your knees up underneath you.”
“No! I won’t do it!” Rowan called out as she jumped from the bed, but in her weakened state, she ended up stumbling and would have fallen if Silas hadn’t leaped after her.
“Make it easy on yourself, Rowan. This is happening,” he said as she struggled against him, managing to scratch his face as he hauled her back to the bed and sat down, holding her face down over his lap, her two wrists caught in one of his hands at her low back, her legs trapped between his as he situated her as he would for a spanking so that her bottom was raised high.
“Go ahead, doctor,” Silas said.
The woman who had stood watching now slipped a set of gloves onto her hands. When Rowan heard their snap, she gave it one final effort, trying to free herself from Silas’ iron grip.
“Perhaps we should sedate her,” the nurse volunteered.
“We cannot, it won’t mix with the drug I gave her. She just needs to take this. Rowan,” the doctor said her name gently.
She turned to watch him approach with the lubricated thermometer ready. She struggled again, her hair now falling over her eyes so she could hardly see what was going on.
“Rowan, make it easy. Like Silas said, this has to happen and it has to happen now. This is just a thermometer. If you relax, it will slide in easily,” he said.
She looked at it but it was thicker than she expected and longer. “No!” When she tried once more to wriggle away, she managed to kick the table of medical supplies. Luckily, the nurse caught it and only the tube of lubricant fell to the floor. She didn’t even see it coming when Silas spanked her bottom hard twice, the sound of the slaps reverberating off the walls.
“You. Will. Be. Still!” he said. “Look at me.”
When she didn’t, he took a handful of her hair and tugged, forcing her to look up.
“You’re hurting me!” she yelled.
“Toxic means you can die. Do you understand that? I’m not letting you die. You brought this on yourself, now we will all deal with the consequences. Are you going to be still and take the enema or do I have to spank you in front of the doctor first? It’s happening either way, you choose how.”
Goosebumps raised the hairs on her arms and tears filled her eyes. Toxic. Yes, she knew what that meant. She sucked in a deep breath and nodded, or tried to.
“Please don’t make me. I don’t want to,” she said, tears wetting her face.
Silas sighed. “I know but you have to,” he said more softly, petting her hair in an effort to soothe, that small act of tenderness pushing more tears from her eyes.
She nodded, her eyebrows furrowed.
“Good,” he said, smiling a little for her while continuing to pet her hair and rub her back.
She glimpsed the nurse and the doctor staring at her from over his shoulder and her face reddened. “Ok.”
Silas kept one hand holding her in place and nodded. “Go ahead, doctor,” he said.
Rowan turned her face into the mattress.
“Nurse,” the doctor said and foreign hands spread her bottom cheeks apart. Rowan felt the tip of the thermometer touch her back hole and it took all she had not to clench against it. It hurt but wasn’t unmanageable and besides, it wasn’t pain she was worried about at this point, it was the humiliation of being held down over Silas’ lap as if she were a child, the humiliation of having her bottom cheeks spread open, her most private parts exposed for all to see and then, the ultimate humiliation, this public invasion of her bottom hole. She glanced over at the bag that hung from the stand, the tubing attached to it, and knew it had only just begun.
“There, we’ll let that sit for a few minutes.”
They both stepped back and the nurse busied herself with going over some instructions with Dr. Stone.
“If I lay you on the bed, are you going to stay?” Silas asked.
Without daring to meet his eyes, she nodded, her face burning red as he shifted her carefully, laying her on the bed with a pillow beneath her belly to lift her bottom. All the while she was very aware of the thermometer sticking out from between her bottom cheeks.
“Just another minute, Rowan,” Dr. Stone said.
She didn’t reply but kept her face turned away, her arms tucked tight beneath her. She understood that they were helping her, that the selenium she had been drinking had been too high a dosage and that they needed to do what they were doing, what they were about to do, but it didn’t make it any less humiliating.
“How long once we do this for the effects of the selenium to wear off?” Silas asked Dr. Stone.
“As soon as it’s out of her system, she’ll be back to normal. Probably tired after all this but that’s all. Nurse, stay with the patient for a moment,” Dr. Stone said. “Silas, come with me.”
They went out the back door with the doctor talking too quietly for her to hear what they were saying, but she had a pretty good idea what they were about to do. For a moment, her thoughts went to Kara. She had known about the selenium but hadn’t said anything to her or to anyone else. She only hoped Kara wouldn’t get into trouble now for her silence.
Dr. Stone walked back inside with Silas following shortly after.
“I’m just going to remove the thermometer,” he said.
Rowan remained still while he slid it out of her bottom.
“Good. Temperature is just a few degrees more than it should be. Once we empty her, it will be back to normal. Nurse,” he said.
Rowan imagined they were preparing for the next part and she buried her face deeper into the pillow.
“Rowan, I need you to pull your knees up underneath you. It will be the easiest way to do this.”
She felt Silas hand on her back as the bed sank under his weight. He massaged gently and spoke quietly. “It’s ok, it’s almost over,” he said. “Slide your knees up for me. It’s ok, they’re here to help you. It won’t be like at the colony, I promise.” The last part he whispered close to her ear. It comforted her, as did his hand softly rubbing her back, and, without looking at him or at anyone else, she slowly pulled her knees up underneath her and waited.
“A little wider, please,” the doctor said.
If it were possible to disappear into the mattress, she wanted that now.
“Rowan,” came Silas’ quiet urging. She spread her knees wider, her face hot with embarrassment.
“I’m going to lubricate your bottom hole and I’ve already done so with the tubing. Try to relax,” Dr. Stone said. “It might feel cool at first but it shouldn’t hurt and it will make it easier for me to insert the tubing.”
“Relax, it will be ok,” Silas coaxed, his breath close to her ear, his hand at her back rubbing and warning at the same time.
Dr. Stone lubricated her bottom hole and soon she felt the tip of the tubing press against it. She groaned, trying to squirm away when it penetrated, but Silas kept rubbing her back all along, the pressure just firm enough to remind her to hold still.
“Almost done, just a few more inches. Does it hurt?”
Rowan only shook her head, her hands covering her face, which was still buried in the mattress.
“You’re doing so well,” Silas said.
“Ok, we’re just going to start the water flow. It’s warm with a solution inside it that will help bind the toxins. You’ll feel
full as we empty the bag but you’ll only have to hold it for a little bit and then it will be over.”
Rowan didn’t move, she simply lay there while the water began to flow, warmth filling her. When she began to groan and shift her hips as it became more and more uncomfortable, Silas’ whispers and caresses calmed her. She shifted her hips from side to side, unsure how she could take any more when it was finally over.
“There,” the doctor said. “I’m going to remove the tubing and plug your bottom to help you hold it.”
Her eyes opened wide at that but when her back stiffened, Silas’ hand moved between her shoulder blades, pressing her firmly to the bed while the tube was removed and a different intrusion was immediately pressed into her bottom hole.
“You can lay her on her side, Silas. She might be more comfortable.”
Without asking her, Silas stood and rolled her onto her side and covered her with the blanket, tucking it up to her shoulders.
“How long do we wait?” he asked.
“Half an hour, then she can release. Her temperature should be normal then. If so, then she’ll just need some rest but it will be over. I’ll be back in half an hour.”
“It’s late. Why don’t you go home. I’ll take her temperature and if it’s not back to normal, I’ll send for you.”
“I don’t mind…”
“I think she’s had enough,” Silas said, cutting him off.
When Rowan heard those words, the thought of Silas actually taking her temperature was set aside and she felt comforted and cared for. He understood her embarrassment and she didn’t get the feeling that he was angry with her. Not anymore. But the next emotion that came was guilt. She thought of his son, Tobias, of Kara, Charlie, and Dr. Stone. Of all the other villagers whose lives she had put in danger with her actions. Without a thought to any of them, she had taken the selenium with the selfish idea to save her own life over theirs. She knew Commander Norrin’s ways well enough, knew how ruthless a man he was, and she had single-handedly given him cause to punish them all, her friends, people who cared about her and whom she realized she had come to care about.
“I’m sorry,” she said to Silas once everyone was gone and he came to sit beside her. “What I did was selfish and I’m sorry. I never meant for your son or anyone else to pay any price for me. I just didn’t think… no, I only thought of myself and I’m sorry, Silas.”
All the while, he pushed the hair gently from her face. He didn’t respond right away and she could see the sadness in his eyes.
“Shh, just close your eyes for now and try to rest.”
She nodded and did as he said, or tried to. With her belly as full as it was, rest was difficult.
Silas got up off the bed and went out the back door. She remained lying there, her hands on her belly, waiting. She knew what he was doing, she was sure of it, and when he finally came back inside, the dirt on his hands proved it. He washed his hands and returned to her.
“I pulled everything out. If you’d like to plant herbs, you’ll only be allowed ones that I know of. Tomorrow, I’ll have Kara pull the selenium from the clinic’s garden.”
She nodded. “Don’t be angry with Kara.”
He sat back down on the bed. “You could have died, Rowan. She should have told me what she had learned.”
“It’s not her fault. She had nothing to do with me taking it.”
“I’ll deal with Kara once I’ve got you settled here.”
“You’re going to punish her?” she asked, sitting up a little but immediately having to lie back down.
“I’ll take care of Kara, I think you’ve got enough to worry about.”
“But…”
He checked the time. “I’ll help take you into the bathroom.” He ended the conversation when he pulled the blankets away and carried her into the bathroom. He set her on her feet but she had to keep one hand on him to remain steady.
“Lean forward. Put your hands on the tub. I need to take the plug out.”
Her face turned red but the discomfort of her situation overrode any other emotion and she turned and bent forward. He pulled her bottom cheeks apart and slowly removed the plug then sat her down.
“I’ll wait outside,” he said.
She nodded, just barely able to wait until he had gone.
* * *
Silas waited for her, giving her privacy but standing close enough that if she needed anything, he would be there. She was still weak.
After some time, she called out to him. Her face already had regained some of its color and he smiled.
“Let’s get you back into bed.”
“I feel better,” she said, but didn’t struggle against him when he picked her up and carried her to the bed.
“Good.” He lay her down and picked up the thermometer Dr. Stone had left.
“Roll over, let’s get this done so you can get some rest.”
Rowan looked at the thing and groaned. “I don’t want to. It’s enough and I feel better.”
Silas’ expression grew more stern. “Turn onto your belly, Rowan.”
“No.”
Silas inhaled a deep breath and counted to ten but when by then she had neither moved nor looked any more willing to do as he said, he placed one knee on the bed, one hand on her hip and rolled her onto her belly.
“Let me go! Haven’t you done enough?”
“Not nearly,” he said, straddling her so that he put some of his weight on the backs of her thighs and held one wrist at her back. “And I’m not the one who got you into this mess.”
“Leave me alone!” she struggled, wiggling about. One hard smack to her hip halted her movements though.
“Enough! You’re lucky I’m going to wait until tomorrow to discipline you but if you’d rather take your strapping tonight, I can do that. Now be still and let’s get this done. Kara will be waiting for me.”
“Kara? Why Kara?” she asked, looking over her shoulder.
“Because she should have told me about the selenium before things got so far out of hand. You could have died tonight, Rowan. Even if you don’t care about yourself, think what that would have meant for my son, for the people of the settlement, for Kara and Charlie. I thought you were getting it earlier, but I don’t think you are. Well, tomorrow I’ll make sure to drive the lesson home.”
“What are you going to do to her?”
“I’m going to strap her behind just like I’m going to do yours tomorrow. If her father were here, he’d take care of it, but he’s not and as I’m now responsible for their family as the leader of this village, it’s up to me to discipline her.”
Rowan had stilled, her eyes wide on his. “It’s my fault, punish me. She had nothing to do with this, I promise.”
Silas released her wrists and moved off of her. She remained as she was, and when he took a pillow and slid it beneath her hips, she didn’t fight him. He spread her bottom cheeks apart, brought the tip of the thermometer to her back hole and slid it in. She tensed for a minute but he could see she was trying to relax and take it. Her lying here like this, exposed and open for him hardened his cock. But there were other things to get done tonight and she needed to rest.
Once the thermometer was in place, he sat down and turned to her. “Kara needs to learn not to keep deadly secrets. Her decision to do that had nothing to do with you. You are not responsible for the choices Kara or anyone else makes. You’ll take the punishment you’re due and you’ll not interfere in the discipline of others in my village, is that clear?”
“Does she know?”
“I’m sure she has some idea.”
They remained silent and after a few moments, Silas removed the thermometer. Her temperature was back to normal and he relaxed a little, only realizing the extent of his worry for her then.
“Get some sleep, Rowan. I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
“Tell her I’m sorry.”
He nodded, picked up the strap by the door and left the house. It was full dark now a
nd there were few villagers out of doors. He did not look forward to what he had to do but he also knew it had to be done. Silas appreciated Kara’s affection and friendship with Rowan, but she needed to remember that some secrets could not be kept.
It only took one knock before Joe Lynn opened the door. Her expression was grave and he glimpsed Kara sitting on the edge of the couch deeper in the room. Both women eyed the strap in his hand and Joe Lynn moved aside to let him in.
“Where’s Charlie?” Silas asked.
“Asleep in the back room,” Joe Lynn said.
“I’ve got some business with Kara.”
“I heard what happened,” Joe Lynn said. “Is Rowan ok?”
Silas nodded.
“She realizes her mistake, Silas,” Joe Lynn said.
He looked over Joe Lynn’s shoulder at the girl who now stood waiting, biting her lower lip, her eyes watery on the thick strap he held.
“Come here, Kara,” he said.
Without speaking, she walked slowly to where he stood.
“Why didn’t you tell me? Tell Dr. Stone?”
“I could understand why she was doing it. They’re going to take her babies away, Silas. Then after that’s done, they’ll take her back too.”
“Did you know what could happen with the selenium if she took the wrong dosage?”
Kara lowered her lashes and a tear fell to the floor. She nodded. “I knew. I saw that she was in pain a few times and I knew. I just… I guess I didn’t want to believe it.”
Silas nodded. He hated this, hated what he had to do, but it had to be done. When he took her arm, she didn’t resist. “Let’s go out back. I don’t want to wake your brother.”
She nodded, keeping her head down, trying to stifle her tears as he led her out back to the woodshed at the far end of their garden. Once inside, he switched on the light and decided on a spot. “Put your hands on the stool there and raise your skirt, Kara.”
“How many?” she asked, barely able to meet his gaze.
He’d only had to punish her once before and that was more than half a year ago. “Twenty,” he said, gesturing for her to get ready.
