“What are Roll-Ups?” asked DJ.
“You’ll see,” said Sam.
DJ watched Sam spread mustard on the tortilla wraps. He smacked his lips as she layered on chicken, cheese, sausage, onion and chickpeas. His mouth watered as she put neat dabs of salsa on top.
Sam rolled up the wraps and handed one to DJ.
DJ took a bite. He took another bite. “Fan-tabulous,” he said. “Ah-mazingly fan-tabulous.”
Sam took a bite of hers. “Fan-tabulously ah-mazing,” she said.
When they finished eating, Sam said, “I have a new computer game. Do you want to play?”
“I can’t,” DJ said reluctantly. “I have to clean the garage this afternoon for sure.”
Sam laughed. “That sounds like something my mom would say. Do you want some help?”
DJ stared at Sam. She was offering to help him clean the garage? “For real?” he asked.
“Are there any spiders in your garage?” Sam asked.
Uh-oh. Was Sam afraid of spiders? “Well, sometimes,” said DJ.
“Fan-tabulous,” said Sam. “Spiders are cool.”
DJ grinned. “They’re ah-mazing.”
They went to the den to tell Sam’s mom. DJ remembered to thank her for inviting him to stay for lunch.
Sam’s mom smiled. “So you survived one of Sam’s quirky creations,” she said.
“Sam makes the best quirky-creation Roll-Ups in the world,” said DJ. He turned to Sam. “Tomorrow you can come to my house for lunch. I’ll make you a peanut butter, banana, stinky cheese, walnut and tortilla chip Super Stacker.”
“What’s a Super Stacker?” asked Sam.
“You’ll see,” said DJ.
