“You can’t say that until we know for sure, Jacob,” she whispered. “Things can change…”

“I can and I have. I meant everything I said, yesterday. I’m all in.” I squeezed her. “I want us to know because it’ll give us the closure we need and the answers that Jordan will be able to have so he can find his place in the world.” She nodded. “Now kiss me like you won’t see me for the rest of the day.”

  “You’re not leaving are you?”

“I’ll have to some time, sweetheart, but I don’t plan on leaving until later.” I leaned toward her.

“Then let me show you how much I’ll miss you.” She smiled and met me halfway.

Her kiss was urgent, fiery, and demanding. I loved every bit of aggression that she put into it. Grabbing her firm ass, I lifted her onto the island counter-top. Her hands rushed for the hem of my shirt and when her fingers touched my heated skin, I stopped her hands and pulled back.

“I want this as much as you do, baby, but we can’t do this right now, not in the open.” I chased my words with a peck.

“Come with me.” She returned my chaste kiss and I gave her enough room to jump off of the counter, take my hand, and lead me to a laundry room where she shut the door behind us. She turned to me with a sly grin. “Better?” she asked and I pounced on her.

“Devil woman.” I laughed into her neck, nipping at the soft skin below her ear. “You have no idea how hard it’s going to be for you to keep it down while we’re in here.”

“If you have to, grab one of those clean towels and stuff it over my face.” She winked when I paused as I made haste of her yoga pants.

“And not see the way your eyes turn when you come?” I smirked. “Not a chance, sweetheart.” Pushing her against the door, I shoved my shorts down my hips and hiked her so she could wrap her legs around my waist. I thrust into her in one swift move, capturing her cry with my mouth.

“God, I love you,” I whispered, my thrusts thorough and purposeful.

“I love you too, Jacob.” She looked at me. “Please don’t ever stop.”

“Never. I’ve tried and I can’t, remember, beautiful?” I kissed her long and hard, swallowing her moans.

  Chapter 37

“You could stay.” She nuzzled my cheek, pressing her body into mine after we made our way to the door. I hated leaving Danica and Jordan, after a fun-filled day together.

“As tempting as it is, I don’t have clothes and I’ve got that important meeting, you have work, and Jordan’s got school,” I said.

With a promise of an early morning run to kick-start our day together, I left.

The following morning, I cursed my alarm clock for waking me so early but then I remembered why.

I hadn’t slept much the night before, missing a certain five-foot-six woman with hair the color of a raven’s, eyes as blue as sapphires and the warmth that she provided.

As my feet hit the landing, I heard the doorbell.

“Hey,” I said as I greeted Danica.

“Good morn...” Her words halted. “You look exhausted, what’s wrong?”

“It’s your fault,” I said. “I missed you in my bed.”

“Oh, honey,” she said as she came in, patted my cheek and leaned up for a kiss. She hanged a garment bag on the newel post. I took notice of her tight running shorts and tank top that did everything to accentuate her assets.

“Oh,” I winked, “we can go back to bed all right,” I wrapped my arms around her, settling my hands on her ass, “but I’m not going to be doing much sleeping.”

Her eyes sparkled. “It’s a good thing I brought my office clothes, huh?”

“Well, if you wanted to move in, why didn’t you ask?” I laughed at my pun.

“Moving in?” she whispered against my throat, snuggling into me. “That’s a very appealing idea. This castle could use a few extra occupants.”

I loved that she saw herself living a life with me in this monstrosity of a house. I surprised myself with what I asked next. “How many would you say?”

She shrugged her shoulders. “No more than three or four?”

My brow furrowed. “Three or four...” Was that including her and Jordan?

She must have read the question on my face because giggling, she said, “Two on top of us, Mr. Bachelor-For-Life.”

“If we keep getting busy like we have been, I’d say that we shouldn’t have a problem filling those rooms when the time comes.” I kissed the top of her head before leaning back and tilting her head so I could see her smiling face. “As for me being a bachelor, I’ve advocated that throne, sweetheart.”

“Very well put,” she said. “Let’s get you to bed so we can practice that theory of yours, shall we? Maybe you’ll have some time to rest too.”

I gave her a dramatic sigh of relief. “I thought I’d have to do you here in the entrance-way.” I spanked her bottom, my grin getting wider with her giggle before laying a hot wet one on her.

Hurried to my room, Danica had me with my shirt off and was down on her knees, working my shorts down to my ankles. She pushed me onto my bed, then disposed of her own clothing, exposing pure, porcelain flesh that begged for my touch.

Crawling to me from the edge of the bed, she straddled my hips, her hands on my chest for stability with one of her sensuous smiles that boded of erotic things to come. I took control and flipped her rough and fast, onto her back. Her eyes went wide and her pupils dilated.

“Looks to me like someone wants it rough,” I teased. “I’ll apologize now if you’re unable to walk in those fantastic heels of yours later.”

She lifted her head and licked a trail up my neck. “Honey, just fuck me already. I want you inside, hard.”

I followed her descent and nuzzled her neck. “God, I love that filthy mouth of yours,” I said but I didn’t make a move.

  “Baby, now!”

I waited until she was about to say something else and then I shoved my cock inside her, to the hilt. A guttural moan rumbled in her throat as I teased her, running my length against that sweet spot inside her.

Kneeling on my haunches, I lifted her hips and picked up speed. I was enthralled with watching myself disappear inside her heat. It was an erotic sight that urged me to keep up with my frantic pace.

She came undone, screaming my name until her voice ran hoarse. Sweat beaded off our bodies. Tension rose deep inside, starting at the base of my spine, sending tingling sensations from my stomach straight to my balls.

“Now, my love,” I said, “I’m giving it to you my way.”

I slowed my thrusts to an almost painful speed but I savored the slow burn of my imminent release.

Dropping her bottom to the mattress, I covered her body with mine, leaning on my forearms and concentrated on slow, steady and thorough.

She was still riding out her first orgasm when the second one hit her just as fierce as the first.

I hushed her erotic cries with my mouth, capturing, feeling all of her as her tremors took me over the edge with her this time. Her legs gripped my waist like vices and her arms came around my shoulders, holding me to her, wet skin sliding against wet skin as I slowed us to a stop and I tucked my face into the crook of her neck.

After a while, Danica’s legs slid down the back of mine. “You might be right,” she whispered, “I think I might have a tough time walking in them heels today.”

I lifted my head to find a very flushed, lips swollen, eyes glittering woman who was the epitome of satisfaction. Pride swelled within me.

“But you’ll have me massaging those aches and pains away later.” I winked.

“Sounds like heaven.” She pulled my head down for a slow kiss.

“Mmm… any time I’m with you, it is.” I gave her nose a peck.

She laughed and said, “Sometimes you say the corniest stuff, but I love it.”

With one of my lazy smiles, I said, “Good.”

I escorted Danica out to her car, opening the driver’s side door.
/>
“Oh, I forgot to mention…” Danica said, turning around before she got in. “Jordan’s got a doctor’s appointment at lunch. He thinks it’s part of his routine physical but when I booked his appointment, last week, I asked for the DNA swab to be taken in case you wanted to know.”

  I nodded. “Okay.”

She smiled as she pulled out a small box and piece of paper from her purse and handed them to me. “Will you be there?” Her smile held a certain note of anxiety. “I know it was presumptuous of me but I figured that you’d want to know and…”

I stepped toward her, cupped her cheek and pressed my lips to hers. “I’ll be there,” I said against her mouth. Her body relaxed and she leaned in, wrapping her arms around my neck for another kiss that I pulled away from before we got too out of hand. “I’m already regretting sending you off, please don’t make it harder. I love you and I’ll see you at lunch.”

That temptress smile of hers came out again and she shrugged. “Worth a try.” I pressed a hand to her stomach, indicating that she should get in her car and shook my head at her antics. “Right. I’m getting gone and I’ll see you in a few hours. When Jordan asks, we’re going with me inviting you to lunch with us.”

  “Okay, baby. See you.”

With the test tube containing the swab and the DNA from my cheek in hand, I did my business with the clerk at the front desk and then sat down in the waiting area. Danica and Jordan arrived a few minutes later.

“Hey, hot shot.” Jordan smiled at me as I walked toward them. “Small world.” Danica smiled at me from behind him.

“Not really, your mom invited me to lunch,” I said.

  “Cool.”

“Thanks for coming,” she whispered when she brushed her lips against mine.

“You’re welcome, sweetheart.” I kissed her temple. “So, by the end of the week?” I asked in a whisper as we walked to the front desk and Jordan found himself a seat.

“That’s what they said when I picked everything up,” she said, smiling at the clerk and handing over Jordan’s health insurance card.

“Please take a seat,” the woman said, “the nurse should be right along to bring you into the exam room.”

“Maybe we can celebrate at the ball,” I pondered aloud as we went to join Jordan who was already seated.

  “What ball?” she asked.

“I forgot to mention it with everything that’s been going on. Every year, Standhope has...”

“Standhope, as in the charity?” she asked and I nodded. “How’d you get tickets? They were sold out before I got to buy one this year.” She pouted.

“Well, you’re in luck,” I said. “Stan’s my one client. He gives me two tickets every year because I help him out. So, what do you say, will you be my date?”

She pressed her lips to mine. “I’d be honored.”

  “Mom… sheesh!” Jordan whined.

I winked at her before turning to the teenager. “You’re just jealous because you haven’t been able to lay one on that girl you’re crushing on.”

“Funny.” He rolled his eyes which didn’t disguise his amusement.

“I’m sorry, kid.” I nudged his arm.

“No worries. She’ll know who I am when I ask her to the school Spring Fling,” he said with much confidence.

  “That’s my man!”

I released Danica’s hand to fist-bump him as his mother said, “Hold on a second… a dance?” Jordan and I both nodded. “When is this dance?”

“In three weeks,” he said. “Don’t worry, I can keep it in my pants.”

“I feel so much better.” Sarcasm was potent in her words.

“You worry too much,” I told her.

“Yeah, Mom, you worry too much,” he said. “So, can I go?”

I watched Danica fight with maternal worry and said, “Whether you like it or not, he’s growing up.”

She elbowed me in the gut and asked, “Since when did you grow so wise?” Her lips quirked up at the corners and her eyes met her son’s. “Yes, you can go, but I want you home by midnight.”

He held back a smirk and as if her decision didn’t mean much to him he said, “Thanks Mom.”

  “Jordan Withers,” the nurse called.

“You’re lucky I love you both.” Her eyes flew between the two of us as she got up. “Let’s go, Jordan, I want to eat and get your butt back to school before your next class.”

  “Do I have to?”

“Yes!” His mother and I said at the same time. We turned and looked at each other and broke into laughter.

Jordan groaned. “You two freak the hell out of me with this say-the-same-thing-at-the-same-time thing you’ve got going on.”

  “Language,” I warned.

  “Yes, Dad.”

The nurse stopped Danica and Jordan and said, “Your father can come too if he’d like.”

“Oh,” Jordan said, “he’s not my dad.”

“I’m sorry,” she said. “It’s just… well, you kind of look like him. Then again, you look a lot like your mom too.”

Danica turned to look at me, biting her lip. Jordan turned to study me and my eyes froze on him. He looked me from top to bottom in an assessing gaze and a glint in those green eyes that told me he was pondering something. Just as quick as this scene took place, it ended with Jordan shaking his head and following the nurse. Danica and I shared one last look; the one that said that we both hoped that Jordan was wrong. The desperation I felt in that moment for those results to prove that I was his biological father was immeasurable.

  Chapter 38

The week seemed to fly by as Danica, Jordan and I fell into some kind of routine. During the day, I spent most of my time at home, working, and in the evenings, I’d hang out with both. I loved my time with them and often, I found myself wondering how I could have ever fathomed a life without these two relationships that now dominated my existence. And let me be clear in saying that I wouldn’t change it for the world.

By Friday, we still hadn’t received news about the DNA results. Danica was antsy and I wish I could say I was doing better but I wasn’t. Whenever our minds wandered toward the topic, I tasked myself with keeping us both distracted. Needless to say, sex had been one of our favorite methods to accomplish said distraction.

The ball was scheduled for tomorrow night, Jordan had plans to stay over at his buddy’s again, and I was looking forward to having my woman to myself.

I walked into Withers International to surprise Danica with an early lunch, catching her as she was backing away from the reception desk.

“Why hello, gorgeous,” I whispered in her ear, spun her around and kissed her right there in front of all to see.

“Get your filthy paws off my daughter!” I heard bellowed behind me.

Danica jumped and I turned to face the man, keeping an arm wrapped around her waist as my woman exclaimed, “Daddy!”

“Mr. Withers.” I approached him, dragging Danica along beside me. I held out my hand. “It’s great to see you again, sir.”

He huffed, ignoring my hand. “I wish I could say the same for you.” He turned his disdainful gaze from me and narrowed his sights on his daughter. “Danica, what’s this fool doing here?”

“Daddy, I swear…” I appreciated that she was willing to stand up for me, if not for herself but I knew that her efforts were futile.

“What? He broke your heart, he tried to steal this company from under us for Spalding and...”

  “What?” I asked.

“Jacob, Daddy’s just talking out of his ass.” She looked at him, her face pale, lips held tight and eyes that glowed daggers in her father’s direction. By then, we’d gained a small audience in the form of employees getting up to take in the action over their cubicle walls. “And for the record, Daddy, you should maybe think about retaining the services of a new lawyer. The only reason why we won in court...”

“Nica, it’s okay.” I squeezed her closer. “I get that the man never liked me and I see
that it’s not about to change.”

He snarled. “You’re damn right about that one, you bastard.”

“What’s the matter with you? He threw the case so you could keep your precious company!” She looked at her father with incredulity. “Did you forget whose heart you broke when you made the decision for all of us, years ago? I told you that I loved him and I still do. Now, I suggest you accept that because I’m not going anywhere and neither is Jacob.

“He’s a respectable, honorable and a loving man, and you ought to be happy for me to have been able to find that twice in a lifetime,” she said snorting her disgust as she looked around. “If you don’t mind, this isn’t the place. I’m done here. Come and find me when you’re ready to face reality and discuss things like a proper adult. Let’s go home, Jacob. Liz, in case you haven’t caught that, I’m taking the rest of the day.” Before I could move, Danica stormed off following the receptionist’s nod of assent. With one last look toward her father, I followed her.

Danica didn’t say much on the ride home but I could feel the simmer of her rage radiating off of her in pulses.

I parked the car and turned toward her. “What do you say we go for a run? I have my workout bag in the back. It helps clear me head.”

She looked at me with eyes glistening. “I’m sorry. It’s the same old thing with him,” she said and started to exit the car so I followed. “In his eyes,” she started, looking at me from over the roof, “I’ll always be his little girl but this stifling of his has to let off at some point. I mean, I’m thirty-four for crying out loud!”

“Sweetheart, he does it because he loves you.” I grabbed her hand and walked us to her front door.

“I know.” She looked down with her keys dangling in her hand. “I just wish he could see what kind of man you are.”

“And what kind of man am I?” I smirked, pulled her into me for a one-armed hug and took her keys from her.

“Didn’t you hear me earlier?” She laughed. “Then again, I wasn’t going to start labeling the more obvious traits.”
