Gabriel, I'm (not) a serial killer

Page 14

by Frank Spoiler

-His mother was just an act, right?- Henry continued. Actually you killed that girl and you had him believe that it had been his mother, who was little more than a horrible monster, you even got him into believing that she ate the flesh of her victims. Henry's voice became hard and cold. - You would have achieved it if not for my grandfather, yes, my grandfather, he was the first to reach and find a way to travel back in time, well, his scientists- I also knew of your powers, my grandfather told me before he died.

He said, son, beware of them, they know everything about us, humans. My scientists did a good job my grandfather said bitterly. They created some monsters filled with ambition and lust for power. Nevertheless I got to dominate them for a while, I even managed to take them to a planet invisible to the human eye, -including the most sophisticated telescopes-. It is a twin planet Earth, with an almost identical solar system; that's where I left them, but not before providing everything they would need to live a long and comfortable life- since we had made sure they could never have children.

-I was not able to destroy them, I had no courage, too many deaths on my conscience, and they were still my children, my children...

-Forgive me son, if you ever suffer any damage for that, I was weak. Now I know I was wrong and they have returned to Earth in a short time, they are very clever and cunning; they believe I do not know, but before dominating and reducing them, they were able to steal important pieces of information about the latest discoveries in biogenetics made by my best scientists. -In that time we thought nothing of it, I did not leave any means for them to work on this.

-Especially, Henry, son, look for your brother, Guillermo, he also will recognize you–he received an unexpected visit from me a few months ago. Among my stuff you will find his address and how to reach him. Oh, and beware of a woman called Alice, she is powerful, but apparently, it's her brother, who pompously calls himself "The General" - who runs the "Aquenee" militia.

-One last thing you should know about them, but I think I've already said it, they cannot have children...they multiply by cloning, and, as I said, they mature in just four years. Son, my scientists will explain how to deal with them, show them this letter, but I will have already instructed them, but they have to be sure that it is you, and only you, who will get it.

-The Last words of my grandfather convinced me that he was telling the truth.

Henry had tears in his blue eyes, the memory of his grandfather seemed very present in his memory, on mine however it was not. I did not know him as such... not like a grandfather.

Henry approached, looking at Alexia's face, she did not seem very affected by what my brother was telling her.

-I knew by my father, that grandfather was experimenting how to clone humans, but never gave importance to it, I was very young and I must admit that I knew that my grandfather was a little crazy, maybe even very crazy.

"He did not realize what he was creating until it was too late...it was out of his hands. It would be his scientists who would tell me months later, after the death of my grandfather, on his bed, when he was ninety-eight years old.

  - He created a few perfect clones, -they informed me, without diseases, with uncommon intelligence, because, of course, they had the genes of his most prestigious scientists, who were as crazy as my grandfather.

"He realized later that these clones grew too quickly, in less than four years they were fully grown adults and with an intelligence surpassing any previous expectation.

"My grandfather was very sorry for what he had done in the past, he carried in his consciousness many innocent deaths, while not directly having killed them. That and no other, was the reason why he could not, forward-traveling and seeing what was going to happen, have the courage to get rid of them, he would not have more deaths behind him, what did he come up with?

The question was not aimed at anyone in particular, so Henry continued with the story.

  - Leave them in a beautiful planet with everything you could wish for happiness, and what did you do?- He glanced angrily towards Alexia.- Thank him? No!

  - Of course not, brother.- I jumped in, finally tired of being quiet- They devised an evil plan to kidnap me, get a chip in my brain and ... make me a murderer ...

  - A thing that we achieved!- said Alexia victorious.- You are a murderer!

I looked at her with brilliant eyes, I was going to enjoy the following.

-You have no idea, honey, I only have one murder on my back, but it does not weigh anything ... the death of Alice, all the others were just an act.- I stared at her waiting for her reaction. She was pale.- You do not expect this, did you?- I smiled sarcastically.

"When grandfather came to visit, for it was him, he failed to take off the chip that you put on me, it was very dangerous. However, his scientists installed another one that, in some way, counteracted the effects of the first, this served so that I could fool you all along while you where monitoring my reactions. They could not prevent me from having those horrible headaches, not that, but yes, it could keep me from becoming hopelessly insane and commit any crime. Since then I remembered my time in elementary school, my first steps doing theater and later in college, I was good, according to my teachers. That made me and Mathias look for an amateur theater group, some were known to us, such as Granny, a lady who was actually the mother of one of our agents. Obviously she was in no danger because she is a big fan, - at sixty-eight years old, of base jumping.

"I must admit that this whole evil plan was designed and carried out by my good friend Mathias.- I looked at him with a grateful and sincere look of affection, and he looked back at me.- Thanks to him and his police smell I can tell this here today. That, and no other, is the reason, my friend Mathias has made you travel back in time to supposedly witness firsthand all of my crimes, when in reality what he was doing was keeping you away from me and keep you busy while I eliminated the traitor, Batholomeus Van Veeldvoorde and gave final instructions to Henry to set in motion the plan of his scientists. Not before listening to the same story ...again. (My grandfather told us of it). But what do you want, he's my brother and I didn’t have much time to enjoy him, yes, thanks to you-. I looked at her accusingly.

Alexia, Rose, Henry, Mathias and even the unbelieving sergeant Cuestas, missed no detail of what was being said, they were lost in the tale. Although obviously neither Alexia nor Cuestas knew this before.

  - And after telling you all this, comes the best part, what we have done with all the "Aqueenes"- he continued saying.

Alexia squirmed uncomfortable, held by the iron grip of sergeant Cuestas.

  - No, do not fret, redhead, I murmured-, we are not savage murderers, we have not killed them, we only have locked them up, if it can be called so –I don’t make myself clear. You continue, brother- I motioned to Henry.

Henry leaned idly on the desk before going on where I had left of.

"Why was I having so much fun?”

  - Aye, brother, my scientists, after many years of research, have succeeded in finding the perfect solution, created to prevent the departure of the "Aqueenes" from your planet, a magnetic shield that blocks any attempt to use their technology to travel back in time and space. Even preventing them from any attempt to send communication signals or call outside your planet that is, leaving you alone and defenseless, permanently outside "Aqueene".

-It's for that reason that all of you who are still on Earth, you will be just for a few years, then you will grow old fast, so we'll you just hold you and leave you, yes, to die with decency, in jail.

-But calm down, there's probably already another Alices taking your place in your world.- I smiled sarcastically.

  - Now, sergeant Cuestas, take her with you and give her a good room with a view to the sky! That will give her time to think about us– Lt.Matias said.

A moment after Javier Cuestas took her away from the room a scream was heard:

  - Halt or I'll shoot!

  And then two consecutive shots.

  W
hen we got to the hallway there was no doubt, Alexia had tried to escape and was face down on the floor with two accurate shots in the back. Cuestas was at her side with a remorseful look on his face.

-I ...do not know what could have happened.- He stammered, confused.- She suddenly stopped and she looked at me and something very strong has forced me to draw my gun and shoot, I don’t understand ...–he whispered, pale and frightened by what he had done.

  She was still breathing when I approached her, she had time to look at me and say, with kindness;

  - Ga...Gabriel, you’re a son of a.... bitch.- she said, breathing her last breath.

I smiled happily ,it was the best and truest compliment I had ever had thrown at me.

  END.

  Acknowledgements

This is my first fiction novel, it is entirely dedicated to my mother, Angela Mira Soto.

With all the tenderness and the love with which a child can love a mother.

And also with all the pain of a child, that despite trying to, never knew how to give her everything she certainly deserved to have in her later years. "Great peace and happiness."

(Even knowing that she will never read this, I want her to know I will always live with an eternal and painful feeling of guilt).

To her this work I dedicate. My first novel. She had Alzheimer's. A great woman that life would never give her what she really deserved, for her kindness, dedication and great love for her children. To you, Mom, I dedicate this story, now I am able to feel and say. This one is for you and, wherever you are! I love you, Mom!
