I wanted to yell and scream at her that this was all her fault. But I had to play the part. “Oh, my god. Why? What do I do? Mother, what do I do?” I yelled out instead.

The change in her tone is immediate. “Come home. Come to me, and I can fix this.” I got a chill up my spine at her words. I was almost to the clubhouse. I could see the gates coming into view.

“Okay,” was all I said as the line went dead. She hung up on me, she got the answer she wanted. I wondered if she even got a call from Thomas at all. As I parked, I was lost in my thoughts. I jumped when the door was opened and squeaked. Troy turned the engine off and helped me out of the car.

“All is going to be okay, Chloe.” He said in his deep baritone. Dax told me that he was the Marine’s Special Forces. I could see it. Troy was massive like built like a damn tank huge and bald. Despite his size, Troy was a sweetheart. I had no doubts that if it came down to it, Troy could really mess someone up. But I liked him. He was good for P; I couldn’t wait until they had their baby.

“I know,” I felt numb again. My smile was gone, and I felt numb to everything around me. Troy got me inside, and I looked around for Dax but didn’t see him anywhere. Troy must have noticed me searching for Dax.

“On his way. I am to take you to Diesel. He needs the recorder.” All I could do was nod as he led me to a room upstairs. Troy knocked on the door. When it opened, I was surprised to see a good looking, clean-cut man. No beard, short hair, and hardly any tattoos on his arms. He opened the door wider to let us in. Troy handed over the recording.

Diesel sat down at a desk full of monitors. He had a small bed up against the wall. The rest of the room was filled with monitors and tech gear. “Here, sit.” Diesel said to me as he offered me a chair. I sat and watched. Each monitor was labeled with business names. I guessed he was the security guy. I noticed my yard and back yard. Seriously? Oh my god, no wonder Dax was so pissed that I was outside naked. How long had they had my house on camera? I glanced a look at Diesel, if he had seen me naked, he didn’t show it on his face. I was mortified, I hoped that the security feed was only when I got back from lockdown. Because it was before. I closed my eyes and breathed deep.

Diesel’s phone rang. He answered the phone. “Yeah, she is here,” he paused; I could hear Jag yelling into the phone. But I couldn’t make out the words. “She is safe…Jag calm the fuck down.” Diesel blew out a breath as he ended the call. “Chloe, you got Jag all in knots. Damn, all of you women got my brothers by their balls.” He chuckled as he plugged the recorder in. I wanted to tell him I was sorry. But he had headphones on before I could say anything.

While he listened to the conversation, my mind wandered. It had to be a trap right. That is why Mother wanted me to go to her. I bet she had Thomas there waiting for me. Would he really be that mad that he would threaten my life like that? I still couldn’t get over the five million. Why in the world would he buy me? I mean, he was a decent enough looking man. But his actions were a little off. I tried to remember our only night together. He was all too happy to keep the drinks coming. I remember he was pissed that I was on birth control and that I made him glove up. I may have been desperate, but I wasn’t stupid. He did call every day for months before my mother started with her crap. It hit me. He was obsessed. That is what his problem was. He appealed to Savannah Bowman’s most significant want. Money. He did that to get what he wanted. Now Dax was in his way.

Molly, yeah, gonna need you here.” Diesel broke my thoughts. I didn’t know what to do. If Thomas were obsessed, he wouldn’t stop until he got what he wanted. I knew that Dax was capable of handling himself. But I still didn’t want him to get hurt.

“Chloe!” I heard Dax yell. Before I could get up. He had me in his arms, kissing my face. “I was so damned worried. Sorry, it took me so long to get here.” I nodded my head. I was glad he was here. So happy, I felt safe in his arms and at home. “Diesel, I am going to get Chloe settled in. Call me when you get anything.” Diesel nodded his head and went back to work. Dax led me down to his old room. For the past three weeks, he was living with me. It was nice though that he had a place here, for just in cases.

“Baby, you want to talk about it?” Dax asked with concern on his face.

“Dax, I think Thomas is obsessed. Savannah called, saying basically that he threatened my life. Saying something like ‘if I can’t have her, then no one will.’ He knew about me and you too. Dax, does that mean he has been watching us?” I watched his face closely and saw the anger boil under the surface. His hands clenched into fist.

“Goddamn it!” He roared as he got to his feet. “I knew there was something we were missing. He has to have connections that we didn’t see.” He paced in front of me. I knew that he wasn’t mad at me, but the situation. But I never have seen him this angry. “Got to keep you on lockdown. Chloe, I know you don’t want to, but I need to know you are safe from all this shit. Especially if he is going off the rails.”

All I could do was nod my head. He was right; I didn’t want to be on lockdown. But I was little shaken up about all of this. If it meant me being bored, then so be it. “What about you?” I asked as I sunk down on the bed. With everything happening today, I just wanted to sleep.

“What about me?” He stopped pacing at least as he turned his whiskey eyes on me.

“What are you going to do? Who is going to make sure you are okay?” Apparently, my mouth and nerves decided at that moment to not stop. “Dax, I don’t want you to get hurt because of me. You don’t get it, you are home for me. You have to be safe. You have to be. You just have to be.” I could feel the familiar sting of tears, but I refused to cry right now. Dax got down on his knees in front of me. Taking my hands and putting them on his face.

“Babe, I promise. Everything will be fine. Remember, I told you, you were mine.” I nodded my head. I couldn’t talk for fear that my voice would betray me. “Well, that means that it's my job to keep you safe at all costs. You don’t just have me, babe, you have the whole club at your back. Got me? Soon all of this will be behind us. And Babe, your my home too.” Everything he said hit hard. I couldn’t stop the tears as one slid down. I was his home too. He got it. He swiped away a tear with his thumb, then he was there. His lips came down on mine. His phone started ringing, but he ignored it as the kiss intensified. Both hands on his face, I pulled him into me. I needed his closeness, I needed to feel him. He licked my lower lip, and I obediently parted my lips for him. As his tongue slid over mine, it was like a jolt straight to my pussy. He pulled back before the kiss got too heated and smirked at me. “You have my word, babe, all will be good soon,” nuzzling my cheek into his palm, his phone went off again.

Without breaking our contact, he answered the phone. “Yeah,” there was a pause. “Your fucking kidding me?” Dax growled into the phone. It sounded like Diesel on the other side. “If Molly can’t get a lead, then I will take him out myself. Got me?” I didn’t even want to know what happened this time. I already had too much going on in my head, and I wanted to keep this feeling a little longer before everything exploded again.

  Chapter 23

  Jag

I couldn’t believe what Diesel was telling me. That fuckwad Thomas Rivet was working with the underbelly of Redding. The Grimm’s turned him away, so he went with a bullshit gang. A white supremacist gang. He fed a pretty good line to them too. It had to be for them to trash the truck I had parked at Chloe’s. Not only did they trash but broke into her house. Were in her home right now.

I didn’t want to pull away from her. Not after she told me I was her home. Fuck that felt good to hear. But I needed to get ready to get information out of these fuckers. I knew the game Thomas was playing. He was trying to separate us. Get us to leave her alone so he could slip in and take her. I was trying to keep Chloe from knowing that Thomas was utterly obsessed with her. But when she told me that he threatened her, if Molly didn’t get him on some shit, he was going to meet the reaper, and I would be his judge, jury
, and executioner. First, I needed to get Chloe’s mind in a better state. Diesel was still on the phone. He had already called Brick, and right now, my brothers were arriving at our house to take them down and bring me something to play with.

“Watching it right now, brother. Diablo and Vixen are safe.” I just nodded. I didn’t want to alert Chloe to what was happening right now.

“Thanks, call me later, yeah.” I was hoping like hell that he could understand what I needed him to do.

“Got ya.” The line clicked off. Now I could focus on my woman right now. I figured I had maybe thirty minutes before I was pulled away again.

“Tell me, babe, you want to take a shower, or cuddle or some shit?” I didn’t know what she needed from me right now. But I wanted to get that smile back. She shrugged her shoulders. I did what I only knew to do. I figured sex was out for right now. Cuddle it was. Getting on the bed, I pulled her into my arms, keeping my hand on her face. She seemed to like that. “You know something, babe?”

“Hmm” She kept her eyes closed.

“Your kinda a big deal to me.” her hands gripped my more massive hand that was on her face. Slowly she opened her eyes and stared at me, a smile slowly forming on her lips.

“Yeah, your kind of a big deal to me too.” Yep, I felt ten feet tall when she said those words. I knew right then that she took my beating heart from my chest. It was hers to do with what she wanted. My chest tightened as I watched her watching me. But it wasn’t as painful as the other times. I guess this was love, feeling like I had a heart attack.

“Get some rest baby; here in a little bit I am going to have to work.” Pulling her into me further, she put her head on my chest and gave off a contented sigh. Running my hands through her silky hair, I planned my attack on whoever they were bringing to me. I knew the questions I needed to ask and what would happen afterward. Chloe’s breathing evened out, looking down at her I couldn’t help but smile. The woman was beautiful, awake, or asleep. Knowing that I could love was both exciting and terrifying at the same time. I could screw this up and lose her. I knew I wasn’t some dandy that could get gentle. I was rough; people were scared to see come their way. But yet, this woman snuggled up to me. She trusted me, and I was her home. We hadn’t exactly said the words, but I knew. I knew that she loved me.

Chloe was my guiding light; she chased the demons off when she was with me. Hell, even her voice made it easy to live. I felt free from the darkness that lurked in the shadows. She made me better, made me want to love again. She was the missing link in my life. I couldn’t lose her. I just hoped that I wouldn’t fuck up and run her off.

My phone went off; I already knew who was calling. Gently I peeled myself from Chloe. Kissing her forehead as I grabbed my phone and left my angel sleeping. I got my mind in the game. I was ready to play with the fucker who thought they could take my angel from me. Too bad for them, I wouldn’t let anyone take her. She was mine, mine to protect, mine to make happy, and mine to love.

Getting to the basement, I felt the darkness creep back in. I smiled, welcoming it this time. I needed this to get answers. I needed to be the enforcer. “Brother, we got three of them for you.” Brick slapped me on my back as I plugged my phone in. I nodded as I put my earbuds in. Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold blasted in my head. I smiled as I got the tools out that I needed.

I knew these men wouldn’t say much, they were just the bottom feeders. Every little bit of information I could get would be another step to getting Thomas out of the way. And away from Chloe, then we would go after Savannah Bowman. Get her greedy, no good ass put away. Looking down at the tools that I put in front of the three stooges hanging in my work area, I pulled the earbuds out.

“Man, please. We will tell you whatever you want to know.” The first one pleaded. He was young, like maybe twenty. Long greasy hair, his clothes were dirty.

“Shut it, Sean. We ain’t telling you nothing.” The second one yelled out. Stooge number two made my day.

“Good, you made my day.” I sneer at stooge two.

“Fuck, man, fuck. Please. I’ll tell you anything.” Stooge number one begged. I ignored him and went to the second stooge. My mind on one thing getting information. I doubted that stooge one could give me much. But stooge three was the one I wanted information from. He was a little older, but he was keeping his mouth shut. Eyes watching with a sneer on his face. He was my goal. Not the other two. I didn’t say a word as I went up to stooge two and gave him a fist to the face. He grunted but didn’t react. Probably whatever drug he was on. The third stooge just watched with a smirk.

“Man, come on; tell him what he wants to know.” I laughed at that. Getting into stooge one’s face. “I already know who hired you. You see, this is just for fun. You went after the wrong woman.” This got him to shut his mouth. The smell hit me first, then the sound of liquid being poured on concrete. He pissed himself.

“Damn, Jag, didn’t even have to touch him.” Brick commented. I didn’t even realize that he stayed behind. “You see, assholes, what you saw your friends go through back at the house. Well, let us just say that was an easy way out. You see, Jag here is invested in the woman you went after. All I can say is you got the short end of the stick.” Brick grinned big, as he sat back down.

“Thomas Rivet hired us,” Sean yelled out. “Said to kill everyone in the house. Even the woman. Her mama double-crossed him. He is a crazy man. Like there is something wrong with him.”

Stooge three finally talked. “Sean, you fuckup. If we get out of this, I am going to kill you.” I had a plan forming in my head. We could use Sean, maybe if he didn’t rat us out. I didn’t know how many people were there. Or how much he saw.

“Where can I find him?” I ask with my back turned. No one answered right away. Ah, the big question that no one wanted to answer. Slipping off my rings on to the tray that held all of my toys, I slipped the brass knuckles on. Turning around, I flexed my fists as I met each of their eyes. Sean’s eyes got big. I took another shot at the second stooge. I heard the crack and crunch of his nose as blood flowed. This is what I was raised for. My step-dad gave me all of the tools and lessons on how to torture others. Sean was frozen in terror. He probably could have been a good kid. He got caught up in the wrong crowd, but he made the wrong choice.

“Where can I find him?” I asked the question again. Sean whimpered. Maybe they didn’t know. Or they did and were too scared of this Thomas prick. Money could have been involved. In fact, I was sure it was. “Now, you don’t want to talk?” I got in Sean’s face, his eyes were huge, and his pupils blown out.

“I don’t know. Man, I don’t know. The suit gave us money and lots of blow.” Sean whimpered out. As I got further into his face. Shaking my head, “Wrong answer, Sean.” I threw a punch into his gut. He doubled over, as much as he could and threw up his stomach contents.

Brick’s phone went off. He waved me over to him. “Diesel has something.” I nodded. I went over to the thermostat and lowered the temp. The basement was equipped with a freezing thermostat and a heater that could make a man think he was in hell.

Going up the stairs with Brick, we made our way to Diesel’s office. I looked back at my door; it was still closed and wondered about Chloe. Would she be okay waking up alone? I should have left a note for her. Pulling out my phone, I sent her a text.

Jag: Hey, Babe. Having to take care of some business. I’ll see you later today sometime.

The words ‘I love you’ were right there, ready to spill out. My phone chirped in my hand.

Chloe: Okay, be careful, please. Thinking about spending some time with the girls if they are here.

I look over to Brick. “Hey man, your woman here today?”

“Yeah, her and the kids were going to make dinner and some sort of dessert.” Shaking his head, he smiles as we get into Diesel’s office.

Jag: Go for it, they are in the kitchen area. Have some fun. Talk to you soon.

Chloe: Okay, talk to you soon <3
/>
I probably looked like an idiot standing in Diesel’s office, staring at my phone. That little red heart making my chest ache. Never once since I have been with the club have I wanted to turn around and walk away for a second.

“Yo, Jag? You good man?” Snapping my head up to see both Brick and Diesel smiling at me.

“Oh, not you too. You boys are droppin’ like flies. Must be something in the water here.” Molly waves her hand in my face. Any other person would have been set straight by doing something like that. But she is Tank’s little sister. She became one of us when Tank joined up. He didn’t bring her around due to her being in college. But, we knew everything about her. He was so damned proud of his baby sister, getting out there and making a name for herself. What was even better was that her best friend happened to be Angie, his Ol’ Lady. Talk about a small world.

“Must be, since you are dating Kelsey.” The bartender. Last year they came out, Blaze was a little upset when they said no to a threesome. But hey, we can’t all win.

“Yeah, see, there is something in the water.” Molly makes her point before she sighs. “Alright enough with the chit chat. We got a few problems. Thomas Rivet is a bigger player than we knew. He has a lot of back-up in high up places. Taking him down is going to be hard. In all seriousness, killing him would be easier than getting a case built up against him.” I could tell that Molly didn’t want us to kill the man, though.

“Well, what can we get on him? I have the bank records showing that he gave Savannah Bowman five mill.” Diesel shows Molly the records. She looks at them and sighs.

“All this would show in a courtroom was that he gave her money. What we need is a confession from Savannah Bowman that she sold her daughter to him. That would get him behind bars faster than anything else.” She sighed again and looked over to Diesel. “I wish there was more that I could help you with. I really do.” I nod my head. We are trying to stay on the right side of the law for the most part. We have a decent relationship with the law right now. But all of that could change.
