Chasing Demons (Angels and Sinners Book 3)

“Good, babe I don’t want you to worry, I should be back by nightfall. Love you, woman.” He kissed me again, and as I got up, he didn’t break the kiss but backed me up against the wall. His firm grip on my waist as his hands slid up my side to my neck. He held me there in place, not chocking but letting me know that he was in charge. That he was always in charge. I relented to him. I loved the feeling of it. I needed it.
Pulling away from my lips, Dax grinned. “When I get back, I plan on tying you to the bed, and edging you until you beg with everything you have to come.” I shivered at his statement. I didn’t doubt that he would do it. I knew he would, and I knew that I would enjoy the hell out of every single second of it. “Go hang out with the girls and have some fun while I am gone.” He kissed me hard one last time before he waltzed out the door. I was left a mess, a horny turned on, happy mess.
Making my way out of the room, I saw that all the boys were gone except for a few prospects. Korey, Angie, Amy, Kelsey, Carrie, and Molly were sitting at a table talking. I smiled a real smile. Dax loved me, and I was his Ol’ Lady. All was going to be alright in the world of Chloe.
“Damn, girl, I know that look.” Angie started laughing. “You look like you were just turned the hell on and left to dry.” She waggled her red eyebrows at me.
“You could say that.” I sighed as I took a seat.
“Everything alight with Jag?” Korey asked as she leaned back with a smile. Of course, she would be all smiles. Brick took her upstairs.
“Yeah, you were right, Korey. About all of it.”
“Told ya, these men don’t go half in. Either they are there for the long haul, or they aren’t.”
“Holy shit. Jag. Our Jag? Wow, I never even seen him with another woman.” Amy smiled as she laid her hand over mine. “Of course, he left all of the club sluts alone. So, tell me, is he really as rough as I heard?” What would they think of me if they knew I liked it rough?
“Come on, girl, spill it. We all like it rough at this table.” Angie threw out there. All the girls laughed at her.
“I guess you could say he is a rough lover.” Angie fanned her face.
“Well, obviously you like it, Chloe. God knows we all heard you the other night. But damn, it has to be good if a woman is screaming that loud.” Kelsey added to the fuel that was staining my cheeks. I knew I was loud, but I didn’t realize that I was that loud.
“Don’t feel bad,” Angie added. “When Korey was pregnant, Tank walked in on them in the chapel. Hell, they didn’t even stop.” Angie roared in laughter.
“Hell, I would have killed Brick if he stopped. My hormones were all over the place. The only thing that made it easier was his cock.” She sighed, obviously thinking about her time with her husband. “Damn, thinking about that makes me want another baby.”
“Nope, uh-uh. Already told Tank, after this one, we are done. D-O-N-E done. He can keep the spawn of Tank in his balls.” Angie crossed her arms as she giggled.
“Did you just say the spawn of Tank?” I asked, who in the hell calls their kid that?
“Yep, when he proposed he told me I would be having the spawn of Tank in my belly. I can assure you that this little guy is going to be his father made over.”
“Oh, lord. You are going to be in for a ride. We all are. My big brother, well, let’s just say he wasn’t the best kid growing up. He got in trouble before our parents killed each other all the damned time. He was loud, he was always stomping around, and he looked for trouble.” Molly pointed at Angie’s belly.
Kelsey turned and looked at Carrie. “So tell us about our elusive Butch?” Wagging her eyebrows up and down. “No one has ever gotten this close to him before.”
“Well, um, you know, he is a good lover. You know really sweet.” Carrie looked panicked for a second. Something didn’t seem right about the way she stalled.
“Good, I am glad that he is. Carrie, you deserve something like that. You are really a sweet girl too.” Angie beamed at her.
“Thanks, really, thank you.” Carrie turned beet red.
We sat up and talked for a while, a long while. By the time I checked my phone, it was after midnight. My nerves began to panic. Dax had been gone for over eight hours. Surely he would be back soon. But I had this pit in my stomach that was telling me something was wrong.
As if on cue, the clubhouse door was thrown open by Brick. He stormed in and started to bark orders at the others. “Get your asses in gear now. We must find out where this little hit Thomas is at. We have to get Jag back. How in the hell did this shit happen?” Brick picked up a chair and threw it across the room. “Fuck!”
My mind was racing, there were a few possible places that I could think of off the top of my head that he might be. But I was almost sure that I knew where he was. All I needed to do now was get Brick on board of me going with them.
Chapter 25
Jag
I could hear something shuffling around me. I didn’t know what it was, but I knew better than to show any fear. I had a pretty good idea as to who it was, but what in the hell he wanted with me, I just hoped with all hope that Chloe was ok. I knew she was at the Clubhouse, so I reassured myself that she was safe.
The last thing I remembered before I woke up here was seeing Thomas meet up with some thugs. He knew where she was and who she was with, and he planned on getting her one way or another. The thugs agreed that if they could shoot our clubhouse up, that they could get in to get her. I will admit, I didn’t plan or think. I ran out into the open guns blazing as I took two of the five thugs out.
Two shots rang out, and I felt the pain. I have been shot before, several times, to be exact. I was able to take one more of the bastards down, and then everything went black as I saw Thomas walking towards me. The bastard had planned this, I knew he had. But why? I knew I would find out soon. I played this game; I knew what was going to come next.
“Wakey, wakey, Jag. I have a new friend I want you to meet.” I heard the little bastard trying to taunt me. Little did he know, but this was my game. Lifting my head up, I saw where I was, and I was a bit shocked and pissed.
“Didn’t think you would be home, did you Jag?” the pussy reared back and hit me in the jaw. I was expecting it, but it still hurt like a bitch.
“You want to know why I brought you back here? Hmmm?” I didn’t respond.
“Well, I am going to tell you anyway. You see, Chloe is mine, and only mine. She is not yours or your clubs. I am pretty sure that she has had every dick in that club of yours. But I can forgive that misgiving. What I can’t forgive is that she was shacked up with your biker trash ass.” He walked in front of me and paced, tapping his forehead. I heard a door creak open. I kept my eyes on Thomas, though. I could tell by the way he was breathing and mumbling to himself that he was unhinged. I have seen men like him, hell I generally taunted men like him. He was like a wild animal right now, ready to strike and kill at a moment notice.
“Boss?” I wondered if they knew about the cameras and security system that I had in place at Chloe’s house. I was tied to the kitchen chair here in her kitchen. I hated feeling hopeless and unable to control the situation. I could feel the demons clawing at the recesses of my brain, bringing up memories from my past.
Shaking my head, I had to keep my shit together; I knew there was no way for me to get out of this alive. But I needed to keep my head together so I could figure out how to take Thomas down with me.
“What? What and What?” Thomas yelled to the goon.
“Boss, Savannah is here.” The goon looked at me and frowned. Realization dawned on him. “Fuck, Thomas, you know who that is?”
“Yeah, Jag. The man that has been sleeping with my woman. The man who I am going to kill in front of Chloe, right after I fuck her in front of him.” The goon shook his head. As he sighed.
“Thomas, dear. Where is Chloe?” The woman who was behind all of this mess came strolling into the kitchen area. She glanced at me and gasped. “Thomas, why is there
a man tied up in Chloe’s kitchen?” Thomas waved her off. “No, young man, you are going to answer me, right this instant.” He sneered at her, pounced on her and smacked her so hard her head flew backward.
“Bitch, this is all your fault. All of this.” He waved his hand dramatically around the room. “If you had only left her alone, if you had quit calling her so fucking much, I could have a chance. But noooo, you couldn’t, but your fucking nose out of it, could you? Could you!” Savannah slumped down to the floor, tears streaming down her face. “Answer me now.” Savannah sobbed into the wood floor.
“I’m sorry, Thomas, I just wanted to help.” She raised her head to glare at him. Thomas got down to her level and laughed in her face.
“Oh, you’re going to help, alright. Call Chloe; get her to come to me here. Tell her that I have her lover. If she wants to see him again, she had better get her now.” She nodded as she got up and pulled a cell phone out of her purse. I listened as she made the call.
“Chloe, I need you to listen to me. Thomas has Jag. Yes, yes, he is okay for now. But listen, Thomas wants you to come to your home. Yes, that is where we are at.” Savannah pulled the phone away from her ear. “T-Thomas, she wants to talk to Jag.” Thomas snatched the phone away.
“Chloe, baby, listen. I really need you to come to your house and…” He listened to whatever was being said. His calm demeanor was changing rapidly. His breathing becoming quicker, and his face beginning to turn red. “No, you listen here, you little bitch, you will bring your fat ass down here, or else. You have one hour to get here, if not then it is bye-bye Jag. And you better come alone.” Hitting the end call button, he screamed. “What did you do to her? Huh, why in the hell would she laugh at me? She laughed at me. Telling me to go to hell. What did you do to my sweet little Chloe?” He stopped in front of where he had me tied. “No, no, no. You didn’t. How?"
I was having a hard time following his train of thought. Digging his finger into the bullet hole in my leg. “Scream, scream like a little bitch.” It hurt like a bitch, but I refused to give him that. Gritting my teeth, I glared at him. “What you think you are tough? Ha, I bet when Chloe gets here, you will start yelling and talking. I am going to take away what you love most. You know what I think. I think you knew that Chloe was supposed to be mine. I think you thought you could take her away from me just to hurt me. So tell me, Jag, why would you want to get even with me? Did my father take something of yours away? Did my money threaten you? Or was it just a challenge getting the mental girl to love you?” He was eye level with me spewing his shit. Damn, this man had derailed at crazy town, with no rescue in sight. I tuned him out as I thought about Chloe.
I hoped that she took this information to Brick; let him know where I was. The last thing I needed was for her to try and rescue me with no back-up. I knew that I was stirring the hornets’ nest by not talking to him. If I started to speak, then he would believe that he could get information from me. I could hear the pitter-patter of my blood dripping from my wounds to the tile floor. The upside was that the bullets didn’t hit any arteries. The downside was my blood slowly being drained.
“You see, Jag, I know everything there is to know about Chloe Bowman…” I would miss Chloe’s smiles, her laugh, and her light. Where I was going, there was only going to be darkness and demons. I was prepared for that, though. I knew with all the lives that I took, where I was going. I tried to perceive it as I was taking scum off the streets. For a while, I was able to feel, feel love. Chloe gave me that gift the gift of love that I never had before. She let me see what life could look like domestic bliss. I wanted more, that was what the saddest part was. I got a taste of what Chloe could give me, only to have it ripped away.
“Ah.” Thomas brought my attention back to him. He was rubbing his hands together like a Disney villain. He looked so damn stupid in his pink polo shirt, khaki pants, and loafers. Who in the hell conducted a kidnapping looking like that? “Here she comes.” I looked up just as the door opened. Chloe came in, looking like a dream. She was wearing a tight shirt paired with tight jeans that showed off her curves. Her dark hair was in a messy bun, she looked like she threw her clothes on in a rush. There was a commotion behind her. “What the fuck is that?” One of the goons yelled. Chloe didn’t even look behind her, her eyes were on me. There was fire in her eyes as she gave me a wink. Damn, I hoped that meant she brought back-up. Diablo and Vixen followed her into the house. At least I knew that the dogs wouldn’t let anything happen to her.
“Chloe darling, it is so good to see you again.” Thomas purred. Chloe walked straight to me.
“What is wrong with you?” She asked Thomas and Savannah. They stood shoulder to shoulder. With her back to me, I could make out the gun in her jeans. Damn, there was nothing sexier than a woman packing heat.
“Chloe sweetheart, I didn’t know he would do this. You have to believe me.” Savannah dared to sound like a victim. Her eyes were pleading; I don’t know what she thought to get out of this.
“Chloe, doll, there is nothing wrong with me. I just need you. You are mine. I allowed you to have your fun with this biker trash, now it is time to come with me.” Thomas gave off a smile of white teeth and held out his hands to Chloe. I didn’t know what her facial expression was, but whatever it was, it made Thomas’s smile vanish.
“Allowed me?” Chloe snorted out. “You think I needed either of your permission to date Jag? Wow, excuse me. I had no idea that I was thirteen again. I will tell you what, you both walk out of here, and maybe I won’t press charges.”
“No, no, no, no. You see, I own you. You are literally mine.” Thomas gave off that smile again. Chloe looked down, holding out her left hand.
“Huh, that’s funny; I don’t remember ever getting any money from you.” That shut Thomas’s stupid smile down. He glanced at Savannah then back at Chloe.
“That’s because I bought you from your mother.”
“My mother died almost thirty years ago, no, you bought me from a woman who just played momma. Isn’t that right, Savannah?” Savannah’s face paled.
“Thomas, I can explain. I had custody of her.” Smack Thomas backhanded Savannah. She fell to the floor in a heap. “P-please, Thomas, you have to understand, for all intents and purposes, Chloe is my child. I raised her…” She didn’t get to finish her pleas as Thomas took out a gun and fired point-blank. Oh fuck, I tried to watch Chloe’s body language. If it bothered her, she didn’t show it. Diablo and Vixen started to bark like crazy when the gun went off.
“Where were we? That’s right, well Chloe looks like you just inherited all the money that I gave her. Well, that is of course if we can find it. You see, Savannah had already sealed her fate. She claimed that I took her money back, and I lost a lot of money at the same time. The only thing that I could figure was that she stole from me.” He paused for a second as he waved the gun around in the air. “Anyways, see problem solved; now you belong to me. So, come away from Jag and come to me.” He held out his arms with another smile. I wanted to yell at Chloe to run and get as far away from here as possible. I had been working the ropes for a while, they were beginning to loosen up, of course, my wrists we are paying the price. But right now, there wasn’t a price I wouldn’t pay to make sure that Chloe was safe from this maniac. “Shut those fucking dogs up!” Thomas yelled. Diablo ran straight to Thomas and latched on to him.
“Fuck,” Chloe hissed out as she ran to them. I tried to yell out, but the blast of the gun cut me off. What if she got shot, fuck I can’t lose her tonight. Pulling the rope off my wrist, I started working on my ankles.
Chapter 26
Chloe
I killed a man, I Chloe Bowman, killed. Murder. I felt numb complete and total numbness. Shaking my head, I turned around to see Dax working on the ropes around his legs. Making my way back to Dax, I knelt and helped where I could. “Babe, thank god you’re okay.” He cupped my cheeks in his big hands. I didn’t know what to say. Yeah, I’m fine, just killed a man. But
I am okay. Saw that man kill the only woman that I called mother. I was terrified for Diablo’s life. What was the worst? I felt no remorse for killing Thomas. Was that normal?
Was I about to have a final break? One where I couldn’t back from. I looked up at Dax, expecting to see some form of repulsion. Instead, all I saw was a concern and love shining in his eyes. “Talk to me, babe,” Dax said as he still held me.
“I-I killed…Dax, I killed Thomas.” My hands started to shake as I thought about the life draining from his eyes right there in front of me.
Through gritted teeth, Dax told me, “Babe, it was him or all of us. He was going to kill me, and probably make you his personal sex slave.” Before I could respond, the front door was thrown open. Dax winced as he tried to stand. I looked down, and my numb feelings went out the door with the cold air. Dax had been shot twice in his legs.
“Dax,” I gasped. “Baby, you’ve been shot. You need a doctor.” I tried to get him to sit back down as I reached for my phone.
“Already, got one here, Chloe.” Brick informed me as he sauntered up to me. He glanced at Thomas and Savannah, laying on the ground and snorted. “Damn, I wanted this asshole to suffer before he died.”
“S-Sorry, I just shot him. H-he was going to hurt Diablo and Jag. I…” Brick put a hand on my shoulder.
“Woman, you did good. Protecting your man. Jag, you got a good one. Besides, that was why I gave you the gun.” Brick winked.
“Why in the hell did you let her come?” Dax growled out.
“You ever tried to tell a woman, no? Besides, we didn’t know if he would kill you when we bust in here.” That was precisely what I had told Brick. When they came into the clubhouse yelling. I knew something was wrong. I couldn’t fathom how Thomas got Dax. Dax was strong and capable on his own. Had I known that he had shot Dax twice to get him? I let that thought hang in the air. Thomas did deserve what he got. I had told Brick that he needed me to get Dax out alive. Thomas wanted me, no one else. Using me as bait to get him distracted would be the perfect opportunity for the rest of the guys to come in and take Thomas down. When Brick handed me the gun, I had no plans of using it. But the situation turned. When Diablo went after Thomas, I just knew that he was going to shoot the dog. I couldn’t live with that. I was terrified of what he would do to Dax too. I reacted and pulled the gun out, took aim, and pulled the trigger. He fell slowly to the ground, the hole in his head. Shaking my head, I looked back at Dax, who was seething at his President. If his look could kill, Brick would be dead several times over.
