She looked back at him and saw his tears.
“You’re a good man. Probably the best man I’ve ever met. But you’ve got to stop saving people who don’t want to be saved.”
He blinked, not sure what he’d heard.
“You have to trust too. Like you asked me to trust. You have to let me love you back. I don’t need saving, Ned. As long as I’ve got you, everything is perfect. Your mother made her choices. Now you’ve got to make yours. Ours, Ned. Are we going to live for this, today, or are we going to live in the past?”
He stepped to her, slipping his arm around her waist. She pressed her cheek against his, stepping up on tiptoes. Then he held her face in his hands, bent down, and kissed her.
“Today. It’s all about today, Madison. No more ghosts or regrets. From now on. I’m not going anywhere.”
She laughed. “You better not, or I’ll have to kill you.”
They heard the patio break out in cheers and clapping. They both turned their backs to their audience.
“Oh God, we have to go back and face them?” he mumbled, his arm around her shoulder.
She laughed, “I am. Are you?”
“Abso-fuckin’-lutely!”

I have read many Vampire books, from Ann Rice to Kym Grosso and few other Authors, so yes I do like Vampires, not the super scary ones from the old days, but the new ones are far more interesting far more human than one can remember. Either way she and Lionel can never be together since it is forbidden.
