Forever in Hollywood

At the end of the rather brief meeting, I signed the uncontested divorce papers and walked out of the attorney’s office with a two thousand dollar check clutched in my sweaty fist.
“You’re a real bitch, you know that, Marissa?” Dan called after me as I was getting in my car.
I paused, relishing the moment that was about to take place. “I was unaware, but thank you for letting me know. I should probably let you know that your sergeant called yesterday. He wanted to ask a few questions about our home life before he approved your promotion to detective. I was happy to save you the trouble of meeting with him. I am sorry though. I might’ve let drop a few things you’d rather he didn’t know. He seemed rather shocked.”

It was fall and there was crispness in the air, young trees were giving into the cold nights and their leaves exploded in colors. I walked up to my house and fumbled for my keys. As always, they seemed to find the deepest, darkest corner of my purse. Two weeks back at a desk job was enough to make me want to scream. I much preferred waking up at four a.m. and hustling to a busy set, in a warm climate. I missed acting. I missed Andrew.
The key slid into the lock with ease, but there was no click when I turned it. My hand froze. The car wasn’t in the driveway, so Jocelyn wasn’t home. Which one of us forgot to lock the door?
“Rusty?” I called for my dog who usually waited at the door to shower me with affection. “Some guard dog you are. Where are you?” There was a bark from the living room, but he still didn’t come running to greet me.
“Bark,” a male voice echoed my dog.
My heart dropped into my stomach. Someone was in my house and holding my dog captive. With nothing else at hand, I gripped my keys between my fingers, ready to defend myself.
When I rounded the corner, my mouth flew open with an audible pop. Reclined on my couch was my dark haired hero with Rusty sitting on his lap, tongue lolled out.
“Andrew?” I blinked. Was I dreaming?
“’Ello, love, miss me?” A wide grin engulfed his face, accentuating the beautiful dimple I loved.
“Andrew, what are you doing here?” I ran into his open arms.
“I couldn’t let you go that easy. I don’t care if I have to move here and wait for you. Whatever you want me to do, I will, because you’re the only thing that matters to me. I can be your secret until you’re ready, but I can’t stand to be away from you any longer.”
“Did you prepare that speech?” I raised an eyebrow impressed.
“I may have. Did it sound okay? I’ve come to sweep you off your feet. I’ll even fight your bloody ex if I have to. Whatever it takes to win you back, I’m ready.” He flexed his arms Hulk-style.
“I’ve signed the divorce papers, and the judge has signed off on it. It’s official.”
His fingers gripped the back of my neck and pulled me to him. An indulgent moan escaped his lips when they touched mine. Just like the first kiss we shared, his soft, warm lips still left me breathless. His gentle caress against the exposed skin on the small of my back sent a shiver of desire over me.
“So no more sneaking around, pretending like we’re doing something wrong?” he asked when he paused for a breath.
“No.” I laughed.
“Who could refrain that had a heart to love, and in that heart, courage to make love known?” he quoted.
“Not I, Shakespeare. Now stop talking and kiss me again.” I covered his lips with mine and sank into bliss.
