Without a Brew

“Ja.” Otto blew me a kiss. “Go. We will be here when you’re ready.”

I left my dinner untouched and my stein nearly full. The twinkle lights blurred together as I stepped out into the cold. Any relief from hearing Otto and Ursula’s side of their story was lost in light of Marianne’s letter. Who was she? Why had she been watching me? Why had she never made contact?

Questions swirled through my head like the tiny snowflakes erupting from the dark night sky. I wasn’t going to be able to answer any of the questions tonight. I wasn’t even going to try. My plan was simple—for the first time ever, I had a starting point. I had an address. Marianne might have lived in the shadows, but that was about to change. Tomorrow my search for answers would begin in earnest, and I had no intention of stopping until I learned the truth.
