“Parker,” she snapped, her frustration and breathlessness making it sound much weaker than I reckon she’d intended for it to be. “I need you to do something, or I’m going to get my vibrator out, lock myself in the bathroom, and—”

Her words were cut off by the small nip I gave her in warning, and then I went back to what I’d been doing.

  “Shithead.”

With my tongue still moving in the same maddeningly slow circle, I ignored the insult and pushed my finger inside her in minute increments. Before I could bury it up to the webbing, though, I pulled it all the way out and then added my index finger beside it, repeating what I’d done before all over again.

This time, though, I latched my lips back around her clit, and gently sucked it inside my mouth, again not giving her enough to push her over the edge.

“You don’t need to be in control, you need to be a clit teasing asshole,” she moaned. “There’s a big difference.” When I didn’t reply and instead stopped my fingers descent into her over the rough patch that I knew would drive her wild, she whimpered, “I don’t think I can take much more.”

Letting her clit go but not moving my head away from it, I rubbed her hip soothingly with my free hand as I reassured her. “You can do it, baby. Don’t you want me to make you feel good?” Through this, I began to gently rub the tips of my fingers in circles over her g-spot. “Can you imagine my cock inside you, the head rubbing against this patch right here?”

Her thighs shaking was answer enough for me to know that she was toeing the very edge of the line now, so I went back to lightly flicking the tip of my tongue over her clit, increasing the pressure on it at the same time as I increased the pressure of my fingers.

When she started panting, I moved my mouth away enough to say, “Come,” before sucking her clit hard and pressing down both digits inside her.

Both of her thighs clamped hard on either side of my head as her body froze, then she let out a screaming groan as her muscles started to spasm around my fingers. Throughout all of it, I didn’t stop sucking the bundle of nerves or what my hand was doing, wanting to draw it out as long as I could.

It could have been seconds or minutes, but finally her muscles loosened, and she sagged down onto my face, making it impossible for me to remove my hand from her now because it was trapped between her pretty pussy and my face. Fortunately, it still allowed me to continue getting oxygen from the small gaps on either side of her thighs, so I didn’t give one single fuck.

“I hate that I’m ending your life after how great that was, but I have no muscles,” she panted, and if I could have, I would have laughed loudly at her words and how they’d sounded slurred as she’d said them.

Instead, with the hand that wasn’t inside her, I gently lifted her ass, giving me enough space to scoot out from under her. As I did it, I couldn’t stop myself licking down her center one last time and smiling at the small shudder that it got from her. Male satisfaction like I’d never felt before filled me at knowing I could draw that reaction out of her. Fuck yeah!

Once I was free, I took a big breath in and then let it out. I’d seen many things in my time in my residency, but never had I seen a body brought in or a death certificate that stated the cause of death as ‘death by vagina.’ Sure, I’d been getting oxygen, but now that I was out of her pussy trap, I realized that I hadn’t been getting enough.

Moving so that I was now leaning over her back, I buried my head into the side of her neck, breathing her in. Years ago, I’d figured that happiness was something I’d receive in small amounts for the rest of my life. I was too cynical and couldn’t trust most of the world enough to even dream about having a comfortable life that made me feel truly happy. I wish I’d known that Ari was the answer to that so I could’ve felt like this after she hit eighteen. I just had no idea!

But now I did, and my mind was racing with ways to make it so that I could have her for the rest of my life.

Sitting up with a start, I glanced at my phone and frowned when I saw we’d only been sleeping for two hours. Instinct was to open up my texts and call log to make sure I hadn’t somehow deleted something telling me I was needed at work, but neither of them showed anything of the sort for tonight.

Placing it back down as quietly as possible, I rolled back into the position I’d been in when I’d woken up—lying on my back with Ari on her side about four inches away from me.

  Did I have a nightmare?

I hadn’t had one in months, so why would I have one tonight?

Focusing on my body, I looked for the telltale signs of one. Yes, as a doctor, I should probably be one of those people who woke up quickly, ready to go and do medical shit. I was as far from that as the pizza was from the keto diet. It took me a while to get my brain and body back online, so I deliberately only took light naps when I stayed in an on-call room at work.

Not feeling any of the sweat or anxiety that usually clung to me after a nightmare, I held my breath and listened closely to the noises in the house in case it was something outside the room that’d done it.

Then, the reason for me waking up became clear. The animals had joined us on the bed. Panky was circling at the bottom of the bed, digging on the top of the comforter to get it to his liking, but Hanky was fast asleep halfway up the mattress.

Rolling toward Ari to pull her into me, I was just adjusting my pillow to find a comfortable position when I heard it.

It was like a hissing noise in the dark, and I had no idea where the hell it was coming from.

  Pssssssssst!

Holding my breath so I could hear it better if it happened again, I went through all the possibilities. My options were:

A snake—this was Texas, and Mark Montgomery’s ass was proof you’d find them anywhere and everywhere.

Some sort of hissing bug—we’ve all watched nature programs, and fuck if I know all the bugs we have here.

Maybe a device that moved like one of the security cameras.

  A gas leak.

It was the last one that had me gulping in a lungful of oxygen again, hoping not to smell any. Just as I took a breath in, it happened again. This time, it was louder and sounded a bit… well, like a ripping noise.

  Psssvvvvvbt!

And then it hit me—a smell that I’d never had to contend with from anyone other than Dale, and obviously myself. We all do it, but my brother’s goal up until he hit thirteen had been to fart the national anthem, so he was the first one to come to mind.

I was faced with a dilemma. I couldn’t put my head under the covers to get away from it because if it was Ari who’d farted, I’d end up in an enclosed space with it. I was also a doctor, so bodily functions never came as a surprise. Was I disgusted? No. Was I amused? Slightly. She was always so precise and well behaved compared to her brothers and cousins, so I never expected her to do it. I could leave the room and let her get it out her system, but that might wake her up, and then she’d be embarrassed.

What the fuck do men do when their women fart?

  Pssssvvvvvvbbbt!

This time, the smell was fucking awful, and I had to angle my head back and away from her to stop myself making a noise. When I couldn’t take it anymore, I pulled my pillow over my face and tried counting to ten. I say tried because by this point I was starting to laugh, full body shaking chuckles. Once I started, I couldn’t stop, and I knew it was making the mattress move with the force of them leaving my body.

“What’s…” Ari mumbled, her voice only just reaching me. “Oh, shitting hell, Hanky. You stink! Go lie in your bed.”

Lifting the pillow, I watched as she waved her hand around, trying to disperse it from around our faces.

“It’s not going to work,” I gasped, unable to stop the loud chuckles coming out of me now. “He’s… holy shit, he’s tiny, but I swear to God, I thought I was going to die.”

“He’s allergic to wheat, so he’s obviously gotten into something in the pantry.”

  This was the fir
st I’d heard of dogs being allergic to wheat.

  “He’s allergic to it?”

Waving her hand around us, indicating the now noxious air, she asked incredulously, “Can you not smell that? When he was little, I gave him normal puppy food for six months. The veterinarian said it was probably his stomach struggling to accept solid food, so I lived with this stink for ages. It was one of the worst moments of my life, and don’t even get me started on when he shat himself.”

“Shat himself?” I had tears running out the sides of my eyes by this point.

Ignoring me, she continued, “So, now he has wheat-free food, but he occasionally gets into something in the pantry, or one of my brothers feeds him something that has wheat in it because they have the memory of roadkill.”

  “What do you do now?”

Getting up, she walked toward the bathroom. “Get something to get rid of the smell. I don’t have napalm, so Febreeze will have to do.”

Realizing that he wasn’t welcome, Hanky let out a groan and shuffled to the side of the bed, looking down at the floor like he was jumping to his death.

“Do the dogs have stairs or something?” I called to her, hearing the cabinets opening in the room she was in. “This one looks like he can’t get down.”

“You might have to help him. If he’s eaten wheat, his belly will be uncomfortable—a bit like when a human has a food intolerance—and jumping will make it more uncomfortable for him.”

I really didn’t want to pick him up, not when he was farting like a thirteen-year-old boy. But I also wasn’t cruel and didn’t want him to hurt himself, so I got up and walked around the bed to where he was still staring at the floor.

Miniature Dachshunds were weird looking dogs. They had long bodies with tiny legs that looked like they could hardly hold them up. Even standard Dachshunds looked strange to me, though. How did they get places? Did they ever get their bodies stuck? How did they have any coordination?

Reaching out, I gingerly picked him up, like I was taking hold of a bomb. In a way, I guess I was. The second my hands touched him, he started wagging his tail and running through the air as I lifted him. It was so amusing to watch that I forgot all about his problem until a noise like someone blowing a raspberry came out of him.

That was when I put him on the ground and backed away, picking up the nearest thing I could find—Ariana’s bra. Thankfully it wasn’t one of those thin lacy ones, so it did the job of protecting me from the ass emissions of a dog.

“Did he do it again?” she sighed, coming back into the room with the can in her hand, spraying as she went. When she got to the bed, she stopped and sprayed in sweeping arcs over it.

“Yeah, he did it again. In my hands,” I told her, holding up her hands like they had radiation contamination on them.

Wincing, she sprayed a little more in one area and then waved her arm around to spread it out. “This stuff usually works.”

I’d take her word for it. I wasn’t coming out from behind the mask saving my life until I was sure it was all gone.

Looking over her shoulder at me, Ariana rolled her eyes when she saw how I was standing. “I thought you’d be used to farts and things like that.”

I removed the bra cup long enough to hastily say, “Human ones, yeah. Canine or animal in general, no.”

And then I remembered I’d been holding him when he’d farted, so I moved around her toward the bathroom to wash them. The relief when I entered the new room was unreal, I could take the mask off and breathe fresh air again.

“Sorry about that,” she sighed as she adjusted her pillow with heavy smacks. “I swear his ass could be used as a form of gas torture.”

I don’t know why I divulged what I did next… Actually, yes, I do. I trusted Ariana, so it all came out of me naturally. “I’ve had years of nightmares, so I thought it was one of those. I guess it was a relief that I was woken up by him jumping on the bed and dropping an ass bomb than reliving...” It didn’t matter how much I trusted her, I couldn’t finish the sentence. Not because of her but because of me.

Wise eyes watched me carefully like she was weighing up what she was going to say back.

Please don’t ask questions, baby. If I have to talk about it, I’ll never get back to sleep.

Her response when it came surprised me, but only just a little. I swear this woman could read me better than even I could. “Then there’s reason to rejoice that Hanky’s ass was what woke you up.”

Snickering and then grimacing when I caught an undertone of Hanky in the air, I muttered, “In a way, I guess that’s good. I thought you said that shit would get rid of it.”

“We’re good, Parker, it’s all gone. I even opened a window!”

Picking the bra back up again, I joined her in the bedroom and even got back into bed—with it still stuck to my face, obviously.

Finding a comfortable spot, and with Ariana lying curled up in front of me with my front pressed tightly to her back, I mumbled through the fabric, “Night, baby.”

  “Night, Parker.”

It’d crossed my mind that we might not get back to sleep, but both of us conked out almost immediately.

This time, I wasn’t woken up by a canine gas leak. I didn’t have any nightmares. I didn’t even move an inch. No, I slept deeply and comfortably, spooning Ariana the whole time. It was the first time in years I’d been able to do that, and I loved everything about it.

  The next morning…

“I’ll make the coffee,” I called over my shoulder, shoes in my hand as I walked toward the top of the stairs. “I don’t have to be in until twelve, so we’ve got plenty of time.”

I needed to get home, shave, and get dressed, but that wouldn’t take long at all.

Just as I started down the staircase, I saw the group standing at the bottom, watching me. All four of her brothers were standing with their arms crossed over their chests. What was freaky about them was the same blank expressions they were wearing, not giving anything away.

Knowing it was best to get it over with, I walked down the stairs, making sure not to show any emotions back to them. That didn’t mean I couldn’t act like nothing was wrong to freak them out, though, right?

  “Morning! Y’all want coffee?”

It was Tate who reared his arm back, almost too quickly for me to realize what he was doing until I saw his fist coming toward my face when I got to the bottom of the steps. Knowing he’d just keep on trying until he got this hit in, I took it and braced to stop from landing on my ass.

“You hurt her and, I’ll kick your ass,” he warned, wearing his usual smile on his face. He was creepy like that, just like Cole.

“Yeah, and I’ll help him,” Archer added with a scowl that was a complete contrast to his brother’s smile.

Spinning around, Levi put his hands on his hips. “We drew straws, asshole. You got to hit him, Archer gets to kick his ass, I get to help, and Noah distracts Na-na.”

“Jesus Christ, they’re a bunch of little bitches,” Noah muttered, looking up at the ceiling.

“No one’s kicking anyone’s ass,” a female voice warned from behind us, and I looked over my shoulder and saw Ari glaring down at her brothers.

I’ll give them credit—all four of them cringed when they saw how pissed she was.

“I’ve never tit punched any of the women in your life—even though I’ve wanted to badly,” she added, her eyes shooting to Archer and Levi. “You’ve done your thing, now you can leave.”

Rubbing his chin, Noah considered her words. “Mmm, no, I don’t think we want to. He promised us coffee, and you know how Levi gets without it, Na-Na.”

“You guys are a pain in the ass,” she hissed as she walked deeper into the kitchen.

Noah’s face lit up at this. “Speaking of asses, I think your dog left you a gift by the sink.”

Only five seconds later, Ari exploded. “You’ve got a damn doggy door, you little shit. I even got the one that opens itself so you don’t have to
push on it, and I had motion-activated lights put in so you don’t go potty in the dark.”

A small whine sounded from one of the dogs, and I actually felt sorry for it.

The dogs were smart as hell, though, because she sighed loudly. “I know, it was one of their faults you had problems last night, bud. I’ll fix it.” Then, spinning and sending the most venomous glance I’d ever seen from her—and I thought I’d had them all after what I’d done—at her brothers, she growled, “Which one of you stupid shit heads did it?”

All four of them immediately took a step back at the same time, but it was Archer who asked, “What do you mean?”

Advancing on them slowly, she explained, “One of you fed Hanky something with wheat in it, even though I’ve told you repeatedly he has a wheat intolerance.”

Smiling at their discomfort, I hopped up on top of one of the countertops to watch the show. This was seriously amusing.

One by one, they all walked back to the door, Noah holding a hand out behind him to protect himself from bumping into anything. When he hit the wall, he navigated to the right, finally finding the door handle and throwing it open.

“It wasn’t me,” he shouted, disappearing out of it.

The others all shook their heads and did the same thing, but at the last moment, Tate stuck his head around the door. “It was Rebel. She was throwing Cheerios to the dogs when we walked past yesterday. Sorry!”

The door slamming followed his confession, and when I looked at Ari—expecting to see her looking pissed—she was grinning at me.

“And that’s how you get rid of them.”

I had to hold onto the edge of the counter to stop my ass from slipping when I started laughing. That was one of the smartest things I’d ever seen.
