He knew why he’d fallen for her. Try kissed her on the forehead. “How did I get so lucky that you were the one to answer my ad?”
“So you like the idea.”
“I love the idea just like I love you.”
“Great because I’ll be going home to pick up more of my stuff and moving it in here. I’d like you to come with me so I can introduce you to my dad and step-mom.”
“You’re sure you want to do that?”
“I think the danger of anyone looking for my boss has blown over now.”
“I didn’t mean that, I meant telling your dad about us, about me.”
“Don’t worry he’s open-minded like me.”
Chapter Sixteen
“Dad, this is Trey Whelan.”
Joely tried to gauge what her father was feeling as she introduced the two most important men in her life.
“I’m pleased to meet you,” her dad said. He put out is hand to Trey but gave her a sideways glance. She now knew exactly what was going through his head. Joely’s sudden arrival at his house and her showing up with a werebear had caught him off guard.
“It’s a pleasure to meet Joely’s father at least. I’ve heard a lot about you.”
“Really.”
“Yes, Trey hired me. I’ve been working at Cowbear Haven.”
There it was out and she knew her father wouldn’t have the nerve to tell her off for lying in front of a stranger.
“I’ve been the cook there and now I’m going to be their art therapist”
He didn’t respond. “Can I get you a drink, Trey? My wife should be back from shopping soon and I’m sure she’ll insist on making us all a meal.”
“That sounds great and I’d really like to talk to you alone if I might, sir?”
Her father waved his arms around. “I hate formality. Call me Martin would you?”
“I can certainly do that,” Trey said.
“Missy, how about you go get us some drinks and that way Trey and I can do some guy talking.”
She had no idea what Trey wanted to talk to him about and he certainly hadn’t given her any indication that he was going to do such a thing. She’d go into the kitchen and while she was getting their drinks she was going to do some eavesdropping.
“Here take a seat,” she heard her father telling Trey.
She walked to the fridge, pulled open the door and got two beers out. She set them on the countertop and tiptoed to the side of the kitchen so she could listen in.
“I’m not sure if Joely…Missy’s, filled you in what’s been happening but we’ve fallen in love.”
Joely smiled.
“I’m listening,” said her father.
“You’ve probably guessed that I’m a werebear and I want your permission for us to be a couple. In fact, I don’t think either of us can be truly happy if we didn’t think you’d support us.”
“Do you make my little girl happy?”
“Yes sir…I mean yes, Martin. I know that I do.”
“Then you have my permission. And what about your own parents? Have you asked their blessing about being in a relationship with a girl who isn’t a werebear?”
“They’re both dead but I know they’d approve.”
“Sorry to hear that…I mean not about them approving but that they’ve both passed.”
Joely chose that moment to step back in the room with the beers.
“I take it you’ll be staying with us while you’re in town?” her dad asked.
“Of course and I hope you don’t mind that we’ll be staying in the same room,” Joely said.
She almost laughed when she saw Trey blushing again. Her father gave a nervous cough.
Joely burst out laughing and sat on the arm of her father’s chair and put her arms around him. She kissed him on the forehead.
“Is there going to be a wedding…I mean sometime in the future?” her dad asked.
“I’d say that’s a strong possibility,” Trey said
“Then in that case I have no problem about the two of you sharing a bed.”
Trey winked at Joely and she winked back at him.
