by Mandi Greenwood

'Yes,' she agreed. 'But we'll also do some good. You'll stop death and pain, and every time you do that it will be something that wouldn't have happened if you hadn't been there. We can help people who are scared and hungry. That's got to be worth something.'

'True,' he said. 'But it'll be dangerous too. The stories you hear about westerners being taken hostage. Medics being …'

  'Chandra?'

  'What?'

'We'll be together over there, whatever happens. We'll be alright. I know it. I can feel it like how I feel the magic on Lily's beach. We'll be okay, and we'll come home again and live right here in Seamere.'

'Somewhere up on the cliffs,' he said. 'We'll have some good-looking babies and grow old together.'

She let him lay her down on the sand, and tangling her limbs around him, she closed her eyes as his kisses fell on her face and throat.

'I love you Aisley Sarin,' he murmured, his face buried in her hair.

'I love you too, Chandra Sarin.'

  THE END

  About the Author

Mandi Greenwood was born in the seaside town of Hastings, in East Sussex, England, in June of 1966.

In 1972, at the age of six, she migrated to Australia with her parents and younger brother as 'ten pound poms', and the family settled in Melbourne's south east. She grew up with Port Phillip Bay on her doorstep and beach culture plays an important role in her memories.

An ardent lover of books from day one, Mandi has been reading and writing fiction her entire life. Surrounded by novels since childhood, she was besotted early on by the likes of Charlotte Bronte, Frances Hodgson Burnett, and of course, JRR Tolkien. These authors fired images in her mind of old England, the jewel that is India, and the mythical world. Her first copies of Jane Eyre and The Secret Garden, given to her at age ten, were re-read over and over until they literally fell apart.

Mandi has encouraged this respect for books in her children as well. In addition to reading and writing, she loves many genres of music and enjoys a good movie. Time spent in the company of her family is precious and she's a great believer in cherishing solitude.

Mandi lives with her husband and two children in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, and finds time to write between running a household and working in community pharmacy, a field she has enjoyed for more than thirty years.

Caught Inside is Mandi's second novel and the sequel to Six Steps Down. It was inspired by her admiration for teenagers growing up in today's complex world, by surf culture, and by the natural beauty of Victoria's rugged coastline.
