“No?” She continues her torture by teasing her way over to my other nipple and repeating her actions.
“Baby . . .” I warn her.
I feel her grin against my skin. She’s driving me crazy on purpose. I grip her waist and lift her until she is situated exactly where I need her.
As if not able to wait herself, Alli lifts up on her knees, positions herself, and slides right down onto me. “Oh fuck, baby.” I growl. She feels unbelievable. I look up into her eyes and let her know that it’s only been her as well. “Baby, there’s been no one else since you, either.”
Alli sits still, allowing me to fill her. She grins and says, “Is that right?” Her smile is bright and mischievous.
“That’s right, and it will only ever be you.” I don’t ever want her to have doubts about me.
Suddenly serious, Alli looks down to me and says, “I believe you.”
And there she goes, saying the next best thing to I love you.
Epilogue
Alli
Shane and I ended that night in the hotel with a promise to always be truthful to one another. He assures me every day just how much he loves me. Which, in my case, can’t come soon enough. I still hold a lot of baggage when it comes to trust, but I’m working on it. Shane seems to have no problems with it, which he reiterates to me on a daily basis, that I am and will forever be his better half.
We spent the rest of the week with his little sister, and just to side track her from her healing progress, we told her about Shane and me. She couldn’t have been happier. I have easily come to love her. She pulled through her chemotherapy with flying colors, and has been in remission for the past six months. She is such a sweet young girl. However, Shane seems to be becoming an over-protective big brother. She’s thirteen now and, as Shane puts it, thirteen going on twenty-five. Kaitlyn has discovered boys, and he’s not liking it one bit.
When we returned to San Diego, we tried to hide our relationship at first because we weren’t sure how Cal would take it. After a couple of weeks, it was apparent that hiding wasn’t necessary. Cal was on to his next prey before we knew it. As a matter of fact, he had several women on the sidelines, so to speak. Like he told me in the end, in not so many words, he wasn’t interested in becoming anything more than fuck buddies.
We couldn’t hide things from Chelsea—not that I planned on it—because the moment we returned from Los Angeles and walked into her condo, she had a shit-eating grin on her face. “I knew you had it in you, babe,” she told me the second Shane walked into the living room to talk to Derek. Apparently, her and Derek are nothing more than an occasional fling, according to my best friend. But, when you ask Derek, she is all his.
It’s clear I’m going to have to have a heart-to-heart with Chelsea and dig down deep to find out why she’s so reserved when it comes to men. I’ve seen the look in her eyes when she catches Shane and I getting all snuggly, but then she quickly snaps out of it and moves to another room. She’s clearly hiding something from me.
I met Shane’s tattoo artist. Crazy Corey and I are currently working on some designs for my first tattoo. I can hardly wait. I’m thinking something along the lines of an airline badge on the back of my neck. I’m not completely sold on the idea, but that first night I spent with Shane at the airport is a night I will never forget.
I received a job offer from Chelsea’s boss, Bob, to work in their party planning department, which is totally awesome. I absolutely love planning parties.
This weekend Shane seems to have some sort of surprise weekend for the both of us. I have no idea what it is, but I think Chelsea knows. She’s been acting all weird lately. I’m not sure if it’s because Shane and I are talking about moving in with each other, or if she is dealing with something more personal.
Once I return from whatever it is Shane is planning, I will make it my mission to figure out what makes my best friend tic.
Game On!
Coming soon: Reflection’s. Chelsea and Derek’s Story.
Acknowledgements
First, I would like to thank my family. My husband and four children put up with my freakishly crazy hours of reading and writing that mainly took place during the wee hours of the night. A huge thank you to Jennifer Clark Sell for all your help in editing my books. I don’t know how you do it, but you are truly amazing. I would also like to thank a special group of women, who are also my favorite book junkies, Beneath The Cover Blog (Kelly, Alison, Sonal & Summer). They are my rock when I need true honesty thrown my way. They encourage, support and help ground me when I need it.
Writing this book gave me the opportunity to work with an amazing photographer, Shauna Kruse, who is beyond one of the most wonderful people I have had the chance to work with. Her model, Matthew Hosea, who graces the cover of Wishbone, is such an awesome and wonderful person and I thank him for allowing the world to view him on my cover.
Kelly Emery, you are such an amazing friend and the work you did to make this cover so beautiful is beyond the gratitude I have given you. Not to mention the teasers, the cover reveal, and the release of Wishbone. You put up with so much of my mind changing ideas and redid so many teeny tiny things without a grunt or groan. I love you to pieces.
I also have to mention this wonderful nugget of a person, Sabrina McLaren, who let me use her experience of being delayed at a San Francisco airport. Although, as she puts it, her experience was nowhere near as exciting as my book portrays. No hot men, no lusty romance, but the use of yoga mats was definitely put to good use. Sleep that is, get your minds out of the gutter.
CB Wickland, thank you so much for your help with my book blurb, you are the bomb!
Ana Rita Clemente, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your help in proof reading Wishbone. You have been such a great supporter of my work and I cannot thank you enough.
To all the bloggers out there, without your support with the cover reveal and the release of Wishbone, it would not have been as successful as it was. There are too many to list but please know that I am indebted to all of you.
A big thank you goes out to all my Facebook friends and Goodreads followers who keep asking for more. I have the most awesome readers who let me know of their love for my books continually.
My friends are also my true supporters who let me write what I want without judging me. We all know my life or the lives of my friends truly don’t measure up to the crazy stories I come up with. Otherwise, we’d all be insane.
