  “Like I said, things are different. You are welcome to stay for dinner,” I said. My father nodded, and I left the room.

  “How was the meeting?” Tierney’s text came as I was getting back on my motorcycle to go back to the condo.

  “It was all that and a bag of dicks,” I replied.

  “I’ll tell Stanley that you get points for that one.”

  I typed the words “I miss you” but I erased it. “Thanks.”

  “Happy to be of service, Lord Demonbreun.”
