Writing is a very solitary endeavour, and yet, no novel can make it to publication without the touch of numerous individuals.

Thanks to my amazing editor, Coral Coons of Briar Rose Editing, for her patience and gentle support. Any mistakes are resolutely mine.

Mai Gabr and Mohamed Gabr, you’ve been heroes helping me with my Arabic and German queries. Love you guys, and thank you for answering my crazed WhatsApp questions at all hours of the day.

My parents and sister have been my biggest supporters and cheerleaders. Without them, I don’t believe the book would have ever been finished.

Phil and Sal, you’re the best. Thank you for years of unswerving support and friendship.

Merli, my writing buddy and office partner. The best Rottweiler in the world. Rottweilers are amazing dogs, loyal, loving, steadfast and unfortunately massively misrepresented in the media. He’s a big softy and melts my heart when I’m busy typing a scene and he rests his head in my lap, wanting nothing more than my attention. Rescue dogs are called this because they rescue the humans they move in with – that’s a fact.

Finally, thanks to you for reading my book.
