Wet Touch Page 24

by Jeffrey Ogochukwu

Kevin quickly interrupted him, “…and you think I did it?”

Lawrence’s eye didn’t leave Kevin even for a second. Then he said, “What do you think?”

“I only read about those that night in the newspaper... I had nothing to do with their death.” Kevin said, trying to sound as convincing as he possibly could.

Act normal. The moment Lawrence senses any sign of dishonesty from you, you’re finished. A voice cautioned him inside his head

Lawrence then took out a photograph of Ashley on it and then he dropped it on the table before Kevin “do you know the girl in the photograph?

Kevin looked over it with a shaky eye. A painful image of Ashley before she died flashed through his mind.

“Yes, I only knew her but for only a while before she died.”

He noticed Lawrence’s eye widened at his last response. Kevin knew he had made a mistake.

“How did she die?” came the question.

For a long second, Kevin was awfully quite. Then he answered “She was disemboweled by T-Rex…”

Lawrence then assumed a serious look on his face, “do you know she was recently arrested after being found to be a shifter but then someone broke in and set her free. From the way the metal bars of her cage were torn open, I’d say it was a shifter who’d freed her from her cage.” Lawrence then looked straight at Kevin with a straight face.

“How did that happen?” Kevin tried to play surprise but it wasn’t working anymore.

“You tell me…” came the reply.

“Are you suggesting that I did it?

Lawrence then nodded his head at the huge body guard standing behind him. The dark soldier brought out an iron rod from the huge bag he was hold. He then handed it to Lawrence.

Lawrence held the long rod up at Kevin. “Do you recognize this?”

Kevin was left speechless as he stared at the rod with a numb expression on his face.

“This was the murder weapon that was used to kill those men that night. Some skin sample were found on this rod so we took it to the lab and then carried out a test on it. The test results came out few days after and the skin sample found on this rod matches with yours.”

Lawrence then dropped a picture on the table before him. Kevin leaned in to look at it. His eye widened when he saw the picture of him breaking Ashley free from the shifter’s prison.

Something about the picture struck Kevin. It was exactly the same picture he had found in Cedric’s drawer

How did he get this picture? Came the very first question on Kevin’s mind.

He looked puzzled as he stared down on the picture on the table.

But then he noticed something about the picture which he was oblivious of before. There were two wolf eye printed at the bottom right corner of that picture.

  Beocraft…His eye widened.

Are you… Kevin’s face folded into a frown as he raised his eyeballs to look at Lawrence.

“You are under arrest Mr. Logan.” Lawrence looked at him straight in the eye. “…you killed those men and you freed that little girl from her cell. You are a shifter.”

The dark skinned solider moved to detain him but Kevin quickly resist. He then noticed the tattoo drawn out in his chest. The crest of the eyes of a wolf was stamped on his chest. He felt his heart racing. His eyeball moved from the huge dark soldier and then it fell on Lawrence who was sitting calmly on his coach looking over at him.

Why didn’t I think of this the whole time? Lawrence is one of them.

Kevin felt a sharp blow to his head which knocked him unconscious.

CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN: SOMETHING IN THE DARK

When Kevin opened his eye, he found himself lying under a bright light hanging over at the ceiling which blinded his eyes.

He tried to move his arm but couldn’t, it was stocked, he realized that both hands and feet had been strapped to the bed on which he was laid. He struggled to get lose but he could move an inch, he only grumbled through the gag that was placed on his mouth.

Kevin then moved his head around to examine his surrounding environment. He found a heart meter beeping faintly on a table beside his head. There was a table far ahead and some surgical devices placed on it. Then he noticed a man dressed in a long white surgical gown. He wore a surgical mask over his face. He stood in the room with him.

Where the hell am I? He wondered.

He then began to shake his body struggling hard to loosen the belt that was used to pin him to the bed, he stopped when he heard the door open and then someone walked in. He moved his eyeball down to catch a glimpse of who it was that had entered, but he couldn’t.

The man wearing a surgical mask over his nose came forth into his line of sight. He was holding a little touch on his right hand which he use flash bright light into Kevin’s eyes to examine his pupil.

Kevin tried to ask him where he was and what was going on but all he could do was just grumble meaningless words though the gag that was tied around his mouth. Then he watched the man walked away after examining his pupil.

He tried to call him back but all he could do was grumble. Then he heard the man that had just walked away speaking to someone else in the room.

“He is awake now…” said the man

He heard another voice asked. “How are his vitals?”

“They seem fine.” The man answered.

“Good – begin the process at once.” Came the reply.

Soon after he heard the door open and then closed like someone just left.

Then the man came into his line of sight. He was holding a syringe. Holding the syringe up against the light, he examined its content.

He then looked over at Kevin and said, “Am not going to lie. This is going to hurt really badly.”

Kevin felt a cold shiver go down his spine.

He felt the needle piercing into his arm. He felt the fluid entering his veins through the needle. He felt a weird burning sensation coursing through his veins, then it circulated throughout his whole body.

He wanted to let out a loud scream but all he could do was mumble insensitive words through the gag which was tied around his mouth. His whole body trembled terribly. He felt every organ in his body burning. He couldn’t feel his arms anymore.

He heard the door open again and then someone walk in. He heard footsteps approaching towards him. Lawrence then came into his line of sight. Lawrence nodded his head over at the man who had injected him. The man then slowly took the gag off Kevin’s mouth.

Kevin was shaking from the pains he felt inside. “What… have you done…” he stammered as he spoke “to… me”

“That is the DXY taking effect right now in your body system. The serum spreads throughout your body checking for any abnormalities in your body and quickly burning them out. Before long, it will eliminate the shifter cells causing the abnormalities in your DNA. This would make you completely human.”

Kevin finally understood why the shifters that’d been held captive in the shifter’s prison could not transform and burst themselves out. Lawrence had striped them off their shifter ability before he’d locked them up.

The pains finally stopped. Kevin regained control of both his arm and legs. He felt so weak like all the strength he had in him had been drained away.

“Prepare him to be transferred…” Lawrence said to the man standing close beside him, and then he left.

When Derik quickly rushed home to get something he had forgotten, he was puzzled when he drove to the house and saw that the door had been left open by someone. Suspicion started to kick in. He quickly took out his gun and then walked cautiously towards the door.

He slowly poked his head through the door to see if there was anyone in, and when he didn’t find anyone inside he walked in cautiously placing his back against the wall. His eyes were all over the place looking for sign of anyone in the house.

“Kevin!” he yelled out loudly holding his gun up against his chest. He slowly climbed up to Kevin’s room to
check if Kevin was down there. But when he had entered the room, it was empty.

There was no one there. Kevin was gone. Derik noticed something else that was missing from the room. The dark hood garment along with the mask belonging to Jeffrey was no longer there on the bed where he had left it.

  Beocraft… they were here.

They must have busted in here to take the hooded garment and the mask along with Kevin too. Derik thought in his mind, as he quickly ran out and headed straight for his car, then he drove away quickly.

Kevin sat in an interrogation room bounded in cuffs. Both his arms and feet were chained to the chair which he sat. The room was painted white. It had nothing else in it except the chair which Kevin sat on and the table in front of him which he rested his arm.

There was a single fluorescent lamp shining brightly up above him. He was left alone in the room with William who wore a look of disappointment on his face as he sat there with his gaze fixed on Kevin. He sat on a chair directly opposite Kevin. Only the table stood between them.

“Do you know what today is?” William asked in a disappointed low tune.

  “April 25th…” Kevin answered sluggishly.

“…and that is only a day to your damn birthday.” William said in a loud outburst, slamming his hand hard on the table before him.

“In less than 24 hours, my baby is going to be tortured to death and her body will be dumped along the street just like the ones we have seen laying around the park.” William brought his voice dangerously low. “I lost her mum already, am not going to stand by and do nothing while my daughter dies.” William then brought his voice down. “I am going to find Natasha, and you are going to help me find her.”

Kevin was filled with regrets. “Since the day I met Natasha, I tried to stay away but…”

Again William slammed his hand on the table angrily. “Curse the day you set eyes on my daughter.” William stormed angrily getting up from his seat and then walking to where Kevin sat.

He bent low and spoke harshly in Kevin’s face. “…it could have been any other girl. Why Natasha? Why my daughter?”

He stood there looking at Kevin waiting for an answer. Kevin stared hopelessly at him William moved away from him disappointedly and then began to pace around the room.

“I heard what happened to the last girl you had bonded with, her gut was left hanging out when the police found her.” William walked to the wall and then stopped. Without turning to look at Kevin he said. “My daughter Natasha isn’t going to end up the same way.”

Then suddenly door opened and a lady poked her head while holding the door handle. “Sir, Alex of the state security is waiting in your office to see you.” she said, “He said it’s urgent…”

“Tell him I will be with him shortly.” William said. The lady left shutting the door tight.

William then turned to face Kevin. “I’ll be back shortly and when I do, you better think of something that can help me find my daughter.” William then walked out of the room, shutting the door behind him as he left.

Kevin quickly caught a glimpse of a black creature hanging from the ceiling. It then dropped down from the ceiling close to the door. The creature wore a dark hooded cloth with many tear on it making them look like rag.

It then reached for the door knob, then it stopped mid-way. Turning slowly to gaze at him with an icy cold look, Kevin quivered in fear. He quickly remembered where he had seen the creature back there in the forest when he followed Cedric.

The way it stood there looking at him scared the hell out of Kevin. The creature opened the door, and then it vanished outside. It felt like a moment ago he was looking directly into the eye of death itself.

That thing has been watching me…

The thought sent a cold shiver down his spine.

The door abruptly open and it startled Kevin. Kevin had expected that the creature would just suddenly walk in and then brutally murder him. But then it wasn’t the creature he saw standing by the door.

“Derik?” Kevin mumbled, he was too afraid to utter a word.

Derik breathed out a sigh of relief as he hurried towards Kevin. “Oh, thank Goodness. I thought they had taken you too.”

“You didn’t see the dark creature with a red hideous face and rags as cloths on your way here?”

“What are you talking about?” He then suddenly realized what Kevin was talking about. “Wait… he was here?”

“He hung there on the ceiling listening in on my conversation with William. Then he got down and walked out through that door a moment before you walk in.”

“That’s the same thing that’d killed Jeffrey just before he was about to spit out information about the mask man to us.” Derik asked looking over at him. “How did you ended up in here?

“I don’t know how but Lawrence knew what I was. He brought some evidence to proof I killed those men that night. After he’d arrested me, he had me brought to the lab where he injected me with some drugs which distorted every abnormality in my DNA. So am completely human now.”

“I warned you already to be wary of Lawrence. Lawrence isn’t a man to be reckoned with.”

“There is something I think you need to know about Lawrence…” Kevin paused for a moment then he said. “He is one of them.”

“What do you mean he is one of them? Derik asked him looking a bit confused.

“Lawrence is a member of Beocraft.”

The room was left in sheer silence.

Derik then spoke out in a really low voce almost in a whisper, “that’s quit an accusation. Are you sure about what you are saying?”

“Lawrence came around to the house today with some hard evidence to prove I killed those men and broke into the shifter’s prison to save a little girl, and there was something off about….”

“Wait, you broke into the shifter’s prison even after I had clearly asked you to stay away…”Derik stated obviously disappointed.

Kevin then said in his defense, “they capture a poor innocent girl. What would you have me do, sit back and let them burn her alive when I could do something to save her.”

Derik then asked him, “where is this little girl now?”

Kevin suddenly grew quite. Derik could sense the regrets on Kevin’s face.

“She’s dead…” Kevin finally spoke. “T-Rex killed her.”

Derik didn’t say anything. He looked at Kevin with a look of disappointment on his face.

“That little girl would still been alive if you hadn’t gone there to save her”

“Trust me, that’s the same thing I keep telling myself every single time.”

“Because of your reckless action, you’ve exposed yourself to Lawrence”

“…for some reason, Lawrence had photography of me when I sneaked into the prison to save her.” Kevin said looking over at Derik. “The content of that picture was exactly the same as the one I had found in Cedric’s drawer. It had Beocraft’s insignia printed down at the bottom right corner of that photo. And when the big guy tried to arrest me, I noticed the Beocraft insignia tattooed on his chest.”

Derik said “even with all this evidence, it wouldn’t be enough to press charges against Lawrence. We need solid evidence…”

Kevin then said, “Why not go over to Lawrence’s office… see what you can find.”

“What? Are you crazy?” Derik whispered. “Nobody is allowed into Lawrence’s office except the vice-president. It’s an official premise.” Suddenly a thought came to his mind. “Unless…”

He then hurried out of the room without saying a word to Kevin.

William entered into his office. He met Alex waiting on the guest seat. He quickly apologized, “am really sorry for keeping you. I was with Mr. Logan in the interrogation room. We captured him earlier, turns out the kid was also one of them.”

“That is also why I am here.” Alex said, “Concerning the call you made earlier asking me to investigate on the man Cedric.”

  William then took hi
s seat opposite him. “Did you find anything?”

“I found some records on the name Cedric in the military database but It only date back to a year ago. Every record on Cedric was never found after a year ago. His full name wasn’t documented on any the military records. His age, date of birth, the cities he had lived in before, his parent’s id; all this were missing from the profile the military had of him. It almost as if every information about him disappeared after he left the military. I ran his face on the facial recognition for any information about him and all I found was the profile he had submitted to the military before he resigned and that was just it. There was no information about him before a year ago.”

William found it odd, then he said, “It almost as if he came into existence only a year ago and the year before that, he never existed.”

  “Exactly” Alex quickly answered.

“I have stationed men over at Cedric’s house to capture him just in case he comes home, but my men have been standing there at his house for over the last 24 hours and still no sign of him.”

Alex then said, “According to the information Jeffrey had given, he said the organization uses some kind of a mask bounded by dark magic to conceal their identity. This mask allows them to shape shift their physical appearances into somebody else, another human… what if T-Rex is just a shape-shift of Cedric in other to conceal his real identity.”

“Could be the other way around…” William suggested, “…seeing that Cedric only stated existing a year ago. It could be T-Rex shape shift into Cedric, and T-Rex is his real identity.”

“…if T-Rex is his real identity then he would conceal his face with the mask. Maybe we are just evading the possibility that T-Rex and Cedric are just a mirage created by someone else, -somebody we are not taking into account.”

  Silence fell in the room.

The door abruptly opened and Derik rushed right in taking a second to catch his breath.

“There is something you all need to know about Lawrence.…” Derik said.

William stood up from where he sat looking over at Derik with a glare over his face. “You better have a good explanation for walking into my office unannounced.”
