Derik then took a moment to look around the ceiling as if expecting something to be hanging up there, listening in on them. Then Derik continued, “Lawrence is a shifter… he is one of them, a member of Beocraft.

“What?” William barked loudly. “Do you know the magnitude of this accusation and what it could result to if your accusations are found to be void?”

“Yes sir… my job is on the line.” Derik answered.

“You sure this isn’t just an allegation against Lawrence to get back to him?” Alex uttered.

“I have nothing to gain from doing something like that.”

“Do you have any evidence to support this allegation?” William asked him.

“Unfortunately, no… but that’s why am here.” Derik said. “I need your permission to search Lawrence’s office, all the evidences we need could be lying in there.”

“Do you know what you are asking me to do?” William said to him almost raising his voice.

“Sir, we are running out of options here. This could be our only chance to finding your daughter. We have only a few hours left to Kevin’s birthday.” Derik said.

Kevin sat on the interrogation table just looking straight ahead at an empty space. He had a lot on his mind. He wondered who William was speaking to in his office and why he was taking too long. Kevin wondered what his fate will be now. He could not see the light at the end of the tunnel.

It felt like he had fallen into something really deep and the deeper he went the darker the tunnel gets. He knew he was definitely going to be burnt to the stake by Lawrence. It was only a few hour to his birthday and T-Rex had promised him a painful slow death as soon as he turned eighteen. Deep within, Kevin had really wished Lawrence burns him first before T-Rex gets to him.

Natasha came through his mind, a single line of tears flowed from his eye to the thought that he was never going to see her again.

He then closed his eye and uttered a little prayer for Natasha’s safety. More tears dropped from both his eyes as he shut them tight.

When he opened his eye , the room was dark. The lights in the room which he sat had been turned off. His chest started heaving rapidly. He had grown to hate the darkness. Kevin’s eyes were all over the place for sign of anything lurking in the dark.

Suddenly the light came back on. Kevin began to look around the room. Kevin had hated the darkness after his kidnap experience over a year ago. The fluorescent lamp brightly shining up above him then began to flicker, and then the light went off again. Kevin began to panic. He felt his heart pounding really fast through his chest like it was going to come off.

He knew someone was trying to play games on him. He struggled to see through the thick darkness, but it scared him even more when he couldn’t see a thing. He wondered what was happening with the light.

He suddenly froze on the chair when he heard the door crack open and somebody walked in. He heard the footstep of someone walking right in. the person dragged his feet on the ground as he walked producing loud noises. He felt his heart racing really fast inside his chest.

“Who is there?” he stuttered, no one answered.

“William, is that you?” he called out. His eyeballs were shaky as he struggled to see through the dark.

He heard something scratching against the wall, then he light came back on. Kevin’s eye fell on the writings on the wall which wasn’t there before.

  ‘Happy Death day’.

Kevin was stricken with horror as he watched from where he sat at the writings on the wall. He quickly turned to look around but there was no one with him in that room. The doors were still shut tight.

He wondered if his mind was playing tricks on him or was his phobia getting the best of him. Kevin felt hot sweat rolling down his forehead. Suddenly the light flickered again and the room was totally dark. He caught a glimpse of something moving in the darkness.

“Somebody help!” he yell out loud, while he struggled through the belt that pinned him to the chair he sat.

He struggled to free himself, but then the light came back on. Somebody stood before him. His hairs stood on end, a cold shiver raced down his spine and a lump came to his throat. It was him.

His heart sank into his stomach when he saw the hooded masked figure with the C-mark on his mask standing there before him holding up a shovel in his hand.

Kevin had wanted to scream out loud for help but then the masked figure quickly knocked him out with the shovel.

Kevin collapsed hard onto the floor. He felt the chains that bounded him to the seat loosen. He was slowly losing consciousness. As everything else went out of focus, Kevin saw the masked figure bent down to look at his face. Kevin’s vision went dark, and just like last time he felt a strong grip on his feet as he his body was dragged away.

  It is all happening again…

  CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHT: A SHADOW

Lawrence’s door slide open, and then three men all went in at once with anticipation of finding something to attest Derik’s accusation.

The room inside was neatly arranged to look more like an official business office premises. There were a couple of files arranged on the floor, lying around at the corner of the office.

There was a big drawer just beside where the files were placed and above it, there was a big poster hanging on the wall with a photograph of Lawrence’s in a cowboy hat. On the table, there were different hard cover notes and some file which had been sorted out to their various orders which were neatly arranged.

Derik quickly began to go through the books on the table, flipping through the pages while William moved over to the big drawer and then pull out the first drawer. It had files arranged inside of it so he quickly flipped through them and when he found nothing, he pushed the drawer in and then moved over to the next one to look.

Alex stood over the wall looking over some of the pictures and posters that hung on the wall and observing them closely for anything suspicious.

Derik had searched through the files and books on the table thoroughly but he didn’t find anything that’d linked Lawrence to Beocraft. He then moved over to the files that were arranged on the ground closed beside the big drawer. He took out the books and then swept through the walls, but still, nothing.

He took a couple of minute to read carefully through the files on Lawrence’s table for anything that could proof Lawrence Is a shifter but all he could find were official records of the various houses he had visited and interviewed in search of shifters. He was starting to lose faith, maybe he was wrong. Maybe Kevin had been wrong.

“…found anything?” Alex asked Derik after he had gone through the posters that hung on the wall and found nothing.

  “Nothing.” Derik answered, utterly disappointed.

William finished searching the drawer and he didn’t find anything. “This was a total waste of my time and a clear violation of the president’s privacy.” William cursed at Derik.

Derik suddenly noticed a locked door just behind a curtain that hung on the wall. Derik gestured towards that door, “We haven’t checked what’s in there?”

“Ok stop! No more of this nonsense.”William stopped him. William raised his hands at him as if requesting something from him. “Hand over your badge and your gun to me, Derik. You are relived of your duties here on the taskforce.”

“You are firing me?” He felt betrayed. “Sir, give me a chance to make this right. We don’t know what could be behind that door.”

“I thought I said enough Derik. Hand me your badge and gun now.” William said raising a hand at him.

Derik was speechless for a moment, then he took off his badge and gun and then place it on the table before William. Derik looked over at him like someone who had just lost everything he owned.

“Go home Derik, Get some rest” William said taking his badge and gun. “You need a lot of it.”

The door gently slides open and a tall blond lady right walked in. she was on heels. She also had glasses on and was dressed to look
like professional.

“Is there a problem Miriam?” William looked over at her.

“Sir, it’s about the prisoner that you left in the interrogation room, he is no longer in that room.” she said.

“What!” Both Derik and William exclaimed.

They all rushed out of the room, heading straight for the interrogation room. When they got to the room, there was no sign of Kevin anywhere.

The chair which was used to restrain him was flipped over on the floor. The belts which had been used to restrain him laid loosen around the chair.

“Where did he go?” William walked into the room looking around. His eye fell on the writings on the wall.

  ‘Happy Death day.’

“Oh-no…” Derik’s eye widened. “They have him!”

  * *

Derik sat there for long a time in his car under the scourging heat of the sun that hot afternoon. He bent his head in frustration against the steering wheel, wondering what he could have done differently to still keep his job, and save Kevin from being kidnapped.

Both of them had been taken and it was only a few hours left to Kevin’s birthday. Derik was totally devastated as he sat in his car looking over his steering wheel.

Some part of him felt gladdened for being relieved of his job, but then the thought of Natasha being killed and her body found on the street like all the others was what bothered him.

He knew he had to continue the search but his badge and gun has been taken from him which will make it a lot more difficult for him now.

He decided within himself that with or without his gun and badge, he was going to find them both and rescue them from T-Rex.

But how? Where do I start to look?

Derik then closed both his eyes. He ran a deep analysis in his head.

I have been able to spot out three members of Beocraft, Cedric, Jeffrey and Lawrence. The Intel on Cedric has lead to a dead end. No one has heard or seen him since after Kevin discovered his true identity. It was almost as if Cedric just suddenly seized to exist. Jeffrey could have given us some information about the masked man which could have help us find Natasha and help us take down this group of killers, but Jeffrey’s head was blown up before he could even utter a word about the Organization to us. Right now Lawrence is our only lead and our chance to find both Natasha and Kevin and then rescue them. But I had failed at convincing William that Lawrence is Beocraft. A man like Lawrence could be very dangerous. I have to prove to William that Lawrence is Beocraft, I will start by finding out what is behind that locked door, with or without William’s help.

He twitched out of his thoughts when he suddenly heard a loud thud at the back of his car. He quickly got out of his car to go check out what it was.

He was puzzled when he saw the gas was leaking out. The back of the car had squeezed like a tremendous amount of force had been impacted on it. Something fast he could barely see with his eye ran past him quickly and left a scratch on his arm.

Derik let out a shrill cry while holding down his arm which now starting to bleed. He looked around cautiously searching around for what had scratched his flesh off. Then he focused on his arms.

Hairs began to grow out from his arms covering the area which had been scratched off and then his arms grew larger.

Then his arm slowly reduced back to normal. The layer of his skin that had been scratched off had now been covered.

He heard someone clapping by the corner and when he turned to look, he saw shady Leaning on the wall by the corner just clapping at Derik

Shady was still wearing the long white garment which he had escaped with from the lab. It some blood stains on it.

“Shady? What are you doing out of prison?” Derik asked looking surprised at him. Shady then walked towards him still clapping his hands.

“Who would have thought the shifter hunter was indeed a shifter himself?” Shady jested.

Shady suddenly ran to where Derik stood and then held Derik by the throat. He quickly smashed his head into the car breaking the glass window. Derik fell into his car with some of the broken glasses stuck in his skin. Blood spilled from his forehead.

Shady clutch his fingers around his neck to drag him out but Derik quickly struggled against his grip. Shady pulled him out with an incredible amount of force, then he threw him of the floor.

Derik’s ankle snapped. He stared in awe at Shady’s incredible strength. “What the hell happened to you?” he chocked. He struggled to free himself from Shady’s tight grip but he was too strong.

“Let’s just say Dr. Frank gave me a new purpose in life.” He spoke in Derik’s face. “He’s given me the opportunity to hurt those people that made my life a living hell. Frank gave me a chance to finally avenge all the bastards who had wrong me”

“Frank did this to you? –he made you this powerful?” Derik finally understood where all the strength was coming from.

“First of, I’d start with you, then frank, then the bastard who killed my confrere.” His voice was getting deeper as he spoke. Shady’s body grew incredibly larger and stronger. His eye color deepened and hairs grew from his skin. Long fang protruded out of his mouth. Shady became something inhuman and it scared the hell out of Derik.

The scary beast quickly jumped at Derik in a loud roar. Derik’s body suddenly grew larger as he quickly transform into an animal. Before the beast could lunch at him, Derik quickly kicked him in mid-air.

The impact sent shady into the air, he crashed into Derik’s car crushing it totally. Shady quickly got up, but then Derik was gone.

“Sir, there is a reported case of a dangerous beast running around loose in this city.” frank said as he walked into William’s office with a file in his hand. “Two women had already been confirmed dead. Both were killed by the same beast. Their bodies were found on the street torn to shreds.”

William looked over at him “your lab project that’d escaped recently?”

  “Possibly…”

William then said “…we must terminate him as soon as possible before he harm anymore civilian.”

“That will be a bit of a problem sir. During the genetic transmutation process on Mr. shade, we altered his genetic makeup in such a way it would make him hyperactive and incredibly strong. That will make Mr. shade almost impossible to destroy.”

“You should have thought of that before you created him.” William was slightly pissed “you made him, so figure out how to stop him, I won’t have all those death on the streets pinned down on me.”

Madelia and Dreda were both walking down a cold busy street that night. They were both returning from a night party which they attended for the first time without Natasha coming along with them.

They were awfully quite as they walked down the cold dark road. Both of them were looking sad and gloomy. “Do you think Natasha will be alright?” Madelia finally broke an hour long silence.

Dreda shock her head sadly. “I heard she’s going to be killed in a few hour if something is not done quickly about it.”

Madelia pressed her hands against her mouth as she sobbed gently. “Is your dad really doing anything about it?”

“You know my dad is the mayor and he’s got an entire city to look after. I talk to my dad about Natasha’s kidnap and he showed great concern. He had promised to hire a private detective who will look critically into Natasha’s kidnap.”

“I really hope they find her soon… am so done with going to funerals of people I love.” Madelia said.

“There’s no way we’re going to lose Natasha that easily.”

Madelia said, “Wait here for me. I gotta grab something from the soda store over there.” She got off the road and then entered into the store.

As Dreda stood alone in the dark, she caught a glimpse of something staring at her from across the street. Curiosity started to kick in as she started walking across the road towards it. Slowly she was leaving the light into a region of total darkness.

When she had gotten really close, s
he noticed a shadow of something watching her from the dark. Two bright yellow eyes suddenly opened in the darkness and then gaze upon her. Dreda gasped as she startled backward in fear.

She noticed a figure walking towards her from the darkness. Slowly stepping into the light to reveal his face, the figure looked over at her with a cocky smile.

  It was shady.

He was half human, half-animal. He looked over her with a wicked wide grin on his face that made him look like the predator and Madelia the prey, then he licked his lips.

His deeply colored yellow eyes scared Dreda away. She let a loud scream, quickly turning around to run but then she felt shady standing behind her. His strong hands were wrapped around her neck covering her mouth to prevent her from screaming. He had quickly captured her.

She froze in his big strong arm. Her chest was heaving rapidly as she whimpered in his arm. She felt his long tongue licked her neck. She let out a fuzzy cry.

Shady opened up his mouth wide with pointed fangs protruding out bite Dreda’s neck off, but then six masked figures wearing black hood dropped from the sky and surrounded them. They were all gazing upon Shady coldly through their masks.

Shady quickly let go off Dreda, then he stood at a defensive position looking into the masks of the hooded figure that had surrounded him.

Dreda quickly ran past the hooded figures the moment he’d released her. She ran without even looking back. She was heavily gripped with fear. Her breathing intensified as she kept running to go meet Madelia who was looking for her across the street.

Shady stood at the center of them all. The six hooded figure all stood there staring at him from their masks. Their hands were hidden inside the big black baggy garment they wore.

Shady stood in a defensive position. His eye rolled to the corner as he stood there ready to attack anyone who comes at him.

One of the masked figures came forward towards where he stood. He stretch forth his arm out from his long garment. He held a mask in his hands. Slowly handing it to him, the mask figure uttered in a husky voice “Join us!”
