Harley's Gamble

by Fel Fern

“Lucius handed this to my care. Maybe he decided I had the courage to do what he couldn’t.”

“What’s that?” Harley asked, his voice a whisper.

“Destroy it, so it could never fall into unsavory hands ever again,” Silas said with certainty.

“Silas,” Harley said after a moment of silence had passed. “What if you’re wrong?”

Silas grabbed Harley’s jaw, and kissed him slow and deep. “Lucius once told me he chose me because he trusted I knew how to make my own choices. The enemies he left behind won’t stop hunting us to get to this. I can’t have that.”

“If this is about my pack and I, then don’t worry about it. We can leave Silas. I won’t ever let go you go. I’ll follow you to the fucking ends of the world if I have to,” Harley said fiercely.

Those words cracked his heart. “I know,” Silas said sadly. “But baby, that’s not the way to live. I only have this one lifetime with you, and I’m not going to waste it hiding and running.”

Silas felt the weight of the chalice then. He understood the consequences of his actions. Lucius travelled from place to place, because he couldn’t afford to stay in one. Linger too long and Lucius would begin forming attachments and risk those he loved. Silas had been an exception. Maybe, Lucius chose him for this one reason—because Silas possessed the courage to do what Lucius could not. Holding the cup with both hands now, Silas exerted all his strength and force.

He thought it wouldn’t cave in, but like any other metal it screeched and bent. Harley swore under his breath, but Silas didn’t stop until it was a twisted mess. He wiped the seat off his brow after and looked at his mate.

“Do you happen to know someone who can melt this thing down?”

Harley raised an eyebrow. “You expect me to have Mount Doom in my pocket?”

“Don’t you?” Silas challenged. The load in his heart felt a lot lighter now. Although he didn’t doubt he’d have regrets later on. He’d think and ponder about his actions, and if destroying the relic was the right thing. In the end though, Silas knew he made the right choice.

Harley let out a laugh. “We can arrange something. I know a retired dwarf in town.”

  “You’re kidding, an actual dwarf?”

Harley nodded. “There’s a couple of fey who took up residence in Darkfall. They’re a quiet folk. I’m sure we can work something with them.”

“You’re not seriously pulling my leg?” Silas demanded.

Harley brought him close. “Let’s go home, vampire. You’ve enough adventures for one night.”

That sounded pretty fine to Silas. He leaned against Harley. With the twisted chalice tucked under his arm, Silas and his mate headed out to meet the rest of Harley’s pack.

  Chapter Nine

  Two Weeks Later

Harley didn’t know about Silas, but he sweltered under the heat of the underground forge. It didn’t surprise him the dwarf had one built under his house. Like most of Darkfall’s older inhabitants, Dzaruk had lived in the town even for hundreds of years. He didn’t take requests anymore, but with some persuasion from Sergio, the sullen dwarf agreed.

“This it, huh?” Dzaruk didn’t look much, standing on top of a footstep while he examined the crushed chalice. Harley knew enough to never underestimate his paranormal elders. “You sure you want to melt this? Seems like a shame. I can take it off your hands for a nice pot of gold.”

“We’re sure,” Silas said firmly beside Harley’s shoulder.

Dzaruk tore his gaze from the chalice and gave them a contemplative glance. Harley didn’t like the look of those beady black eyes that saw far too much, and hid a bit of cunning. Michella warned him to watch his words and make sure they saw the chalice melted with their own eyes. They weren’t taking any chances.

For a second, Harley thought they had to go about this the hard way. He felt Silas tense and knew his own wolf readied itself to spring into action. If they had a fight on their hands, they would be ready.

“If there’s a problem, then we’ll take our business elsewhere,” Silas said coldly.

Dzaruk snorted. “Young immortals these days have no matters. I keep my word, blood child. I will melt the relic.”

They didn’t move an inch, until the deed was done. After, Harley gave Dzaruk a curt nod. “Thank you.”

“Don’t thank me, wolf kin. Tell your kind, I will demand my payment sometime in the future,” Dzaruk warned.

“Sounds ominous,” Silas said once they were out of Dzaruk’s home.

Harley shrugged. “We’ll worry about it when the time comes.”

He grunted when Silas pulled him close and wrapped his pale slender arms around his neck. Harley took over. He wove his fingers into Silas’s hair, and tugged, angling his mate’s mouth for a kiss. Harley took, enjoying the taste and heat of Silas immensely. Everything happened so fast sometimes Harley couldn’t believe he’d really found his mate.

Hell, they survived an entire group of paranormal-hating fanatics. True to her word, Michella and the other pack leaders let the survivors live so they could deliver a message to their leaders. Harley heard Sergio managed to strike some kind of bargain with the Order, after he explained the chalice was no longer in the Darkfall Mountain Pack’s hands. Two wonderful weeks had passed. Busy, but exciting times. Because of Silas’s nocturnal schedule, Harley had to learn getting used to doing things at night. It was a worthwhile sacrifice though.

Silas pulled away, eyes glittering with hungry intent. “Not here, baby. We need to get dinner first.”

“Screw dinner, I want to have you,” Harley said grumpily as they headed back to their car.

“Behave, wolf. Besides, you’ll need your strength, because I intend to ride you all night long.”

Harley choked back his laugh. “What you think I won’t last? Is that a challenge?”

Silas wisely shook his head. “Food first, then sex.”

Too bad Silas’s argument didn’t last. After reporting to Sergio about the chalice, Harley drove them back home, to their new apartment. They couldn’t get their hands off each other, even after two weeks of unstoppable mind-blowing sex that only got better with each time. Harley stumbled out of the car, hands all over Silas. They miraculously made their way into the lift. An elderly couple made annoyed noises, before going out. Fine with Harley, because he wanted Silas all to himself.

He took Silas’s lips again, pausing occasionally to let the vampire peel off his clothes. They left a trail from the lift to their unit. Harley slotted his key, and finally, they were inside, nearly naked.

“What’s with these fucking jeans?” Silas hissed in frustration, fumbling for the top button.

“You bought them for me, remember? You said you like my ass in them,” Harley said unhelpfully. God, sometimes it amused him sometimes, to see Silas miffed. Growling, Silas ripped the fabric. “You’re getting me a new pair.”

Silas snorted. Harley took that opportunity to grab his wrists and slam Silas against the wall. Although Silas didn’t need to breathe, his chest rose and fell, mimicking old human habits.

“So aggressive, wolf. I like.” Silas licked his lips.

“Oh, I know,” Harley asked. His gaze dipped lower to Silas’s hardening cock and his own. Silas’s cheeks colored slightly. Harley grinded his body against Silas, and let their chests, stomachs and groins touch. Silas groaned at the contact. Harley kissed Silas’s lips, a tender one this time. He made a path down Silas’s jaw, the side of his neck, took one nipple between his teeth and left his bite mark there.

  “Baby,” Silas murmured.

“Hush. Enjoy the show.” Harley dropped to his knees in time to see Silas’s eyes widen.

He flicked his tongue over the pre-cum gathered at Silas’s tip, and used one hand to gently squeeze Silas’s balls. Moaning, Silas threaded his fingers into Harley’s hair, closing his eyes. Harley closed his lips around Silas’s length, sealing Silas’s member with heat. It was a sheer pleasure, watching Silas’s
eyelids flutter, and his mouthpart slightly. Harley had devious plans for Silas’s tempting lips. They had the whole evening for themselves after all.

He smoothly bobbed his head up and down, applying careful suction with every inch. Sensing Silas was on the verge of coming, Harley pulled out of his prick. Silas exhaled sharply and angled a glare at him. Harley stood back up.

“Not yet. You’re not needy enough.”

“Bastard,” Silas said, his tone a mix of irritation and fondness.

“Always. Besides, I don’t want to fuck you against this wall.”

  “You’ve taken me everywhere else.”

  Harley looked thoughtful. “Not everywhere.”

“Harley, hurry up.” Silas looked adorable when he was impatient, Harley decided.

“Just now was a preview of what’s to come,” Harley explained. He offered Silas a hand. Looking at him suspiciously, Silas took it. “Bedroom.”

“Bedroom? I thought we were going to have some kinky sex on the kitchen counter or something,” Silas whined.

Harley tugged, and Silas followed. He growled. “Don’t smart off, or you’re not getting any.”

Silas sighed, entire demeanor changing once they entered their bedroom. Harley grinned at his awestruck expression. Silas always complained Harley didn’t know how to do romantic. The candlelit room illuminated every detail of the room—the stark black silk sheets, the leather cuffs hanging on the headboard and the toys at the foot of the bed Harley laid out. Silas let out a surprised breath.

  “You planned this.”

“Of course. We can’t always have rough wild sex, can we? Werewolves can be creative, too.”

Silas swallowed, eyeing the toys, but Harley caught the gleam of excitement in his eyes.

“Lie on the bed. On your back.” Harley watched Silas hungrily.

The vampire made the simple act a graceful motion. He walked up to the headboard, grinning when Silas offered him his left wrist. Harley fastened the leather cuff, and made sure it was snug, but not too tight. He then restrained Silas’s right, before returning to the foot of the bed.

“Harley, you cunning bastard,” Silas breathed. “When did you have the time to plan this?”

“During the day, when I’m at my day job or back here, I’m always thinking of evil ways to have you,” Harley explained. He picked up the vibrating red dildo and the lube, knowing Silas watched him eagerly. Crawling between Silas’s spread legs, Harley squeezed a generous amount of lube into his fingers and Silas’s puckered hole.

“I’m going to lube you up and keep this toy in you, while I enjoy myself with the rest of you,” Harley explained. He nudged a finger into Silas’s slicked hole, then a second. Silas moaned as he scissored his way in. “Once you’re all ready for me, I’m going to take you. Fuck your brains out until you scream my name.”

“How romantic,” Silas remarked, his sarcasm disappearing the moment Harley began sliding the toy in. The dildo slipped in without effort, smaller than Harley’s dick. Harley flicked the switch to the lowest setting. Silas squirmed, clutching at his restraints as the toy sent vibrations into his asshole.

“Perfect,” Harley commented, making Silas red again. He clambered on top of Silas, liking the discomforted expression on his face. “Remember the rules?”

“No coming without your permission. Fuck, baby, that’s going to be hard,” Silas confessed.

“Try,” Harley said, grinning. “If you fail, we’re going to do this again until we succeed.”

Silas swore under his breath. Harley stole a kiss. Silas rubbed against him, but Harley moved on. He took his time, enjoying the taste of his mate’s helpless body. The notion of Silas taking what he had to offer—that was the ultimate turn-on. Harley wasn’t sure how long his control would last though. His balls drew in tight against him with every moan and whimper Silas emitted, and he wanted to bury himself deep inside Silas.

Reining in his libido, Harley put his mouth to work. He alternated between heated kisses and leaving love bites across the expense of Silas’s slender body. Seeing his marks standing out starkly against his mate’s pale skin, Harley licked his lips.

“Please, Harley,” Silas begged, and then swore when Harley put his mouth around Silas’s tortured shaft again. Harley licked and sucked his way, as Silas hardened against his ministrations.

  “Baby, I can’t—” Silas began.

“Give me your release, Silas.” Harley commanded once he pulled his mouth out of Silas’s member.

Silas let out shuddering sigh of relief and exploded, coating Harley’s chest and stomach with his load. Harley slipped his hand between Silas’s legs, turned the vibrator off, and pulled it out. Knowing Silas liked to hold onto him during sex, Harley freed his wrists.

“Kiss me,” Silas murmured. Seeing the languid expression on his face, Harley complied.

“We’re not yet done, vampire,” Harley warned.

Silas raked his gaze down the length of Harley’s body, resting on his rock-hard member. He licked his lips. “Yummy. Mine. Give me.”

Harley chuckled. Silas positioned him near the edge of the bed and Harley took position. He placed Silas’s legs over his shoulders and blanketed Silas’s body with his. Silas locked his arms around Harley’s neck. Harley didn’t ask, didn’t wait. He entered Silas, already slick and ready for him.

Meeting no resistance, Harley sheathed himself completely inside his mate. Silas groaned against him. Knowing how Silas liked it, Harley began to ride him. Slow at first, before building a steady rhythm. Harley went faster. Deeper. The pressure building inside him begged for release and fuck, Silas felt so fucking tight around him.

Harley shifted his hips, and hammered home. Silas gasped, but Harley was relentless. He aimed for Silas’s sweet spot repeatedly, growling softly under his breath when Silas’s nails scored the muscles of his back. Knowing he was close, Harley’s hand found Silas’s shaft, already thick and heavy. He pumped Silas’s shaft up and down, picking speed, until Silas cried out, digging fingers into his shoulders.

The sound of his mate reaching climax a second time, triggered Harley’s own orgasm. He let out a triumphant growl, and emptied his load inside Silas. Emptied, Harley collapsed against his mate. He sighed, feeling Silas combing his fingers through his hair.

“Let’s clean up,” Silas suggested after.

They showered together, slipped in a quickie, before nestling back in bed. He tucked Silas close to him, pressing his member right at the curve of Silas’s ass. They fitted perfectly. Always.

“Penny for your thoughts?” Silas asked.

“Love you, vampire,” Harley said, knowing the words Silas wanted to hear. He nipped at Silas’s ear, enjoying the sound of his contented sigh.

“I love you too, grumpy wolf.” Silas rolled over, so he now faced Harley. “We’ve sent a group of fanatics running, and melted down the relic of doom with a dwarf’s help. What’s in store for the vampire and sidekick werewolf?”

“Why am I the sidekick?” Harley grumbled. He forgave Silas for the slight when Silas kissed him. Harley pretended to think about Silas’s question for a while. “Tomorrow’s another day. We’ll take one day at a time. There will be boring days, exciting ones. Good and bad. For better or for worse.”

Harley reached under his pillow. Silas’s eyes grew wide. Harley rendered his vampire mate speechless when he showed him the plain and simple wedding band. “We had an unorthodox kind of meeting. Marry me?”

Silas let out a shrill scream of pure joy and practically leapt on Harley. Harley grunted as Silas wrapped his arms around his neck, his excitement infectious.

“Serious?” Silas asked, gaze intent. Why did Harley have a feeling Silas was already making wedding plans in his head.

“Oh, you don’t want this?” Harley teased. Before he could blink, Silas swiped the ring and slid it around his ring finger. “That’s a ‘yes’ then?”

“Of course,” Silas said, grinning. “I can’t wait to let everyone
know tomorrow.”

Harley groaned, but he let Silas run the show. After all, if Silas wanted a perfect wedding, then Harley would gladly make sure that happened.
