She continued to jam things into her overnight bag as the receptionist put her through to Dr. Beevile (whom she, of course, privately referred to as Dr. Evil…, not because he was a bad man, but because she was a huge Austin Powers fan).
She couldn’t believe her luck that he called just before Jeremy arrived. The doctor sounded light hearted, so she knew immediately it was nothing serious.
“Honestly, I think you were more worried than I was about that. And you have perfect timing.” She had the phone between her face and shoulder as she zipped her overnight bag; she loved it when a plan came together. “I’m leaving for the weekend and have just enough time to make it to the pharmacy if necessary…what’s up?”

“Well, the only pill for this is the one you obviously didn’t take. I wouldn’t have thought it likely, considering your recent situation, but, congratulations, Ms. Carter. You’re pregnant!”
The phone hit the floor and she felt she may be close behind. It wasn’t only unlikely, she thought, the old feeling rising. It was impossible.
