In Love With A Vampire

“He’s lying!” Jesse snapped, unable to control her anger. “He’s the most evil vampire in the entire universe! He’s just saying that to make you hand my over to him quickly. You can never trust him!”
“I know I couldn’t trust him a hundred per cent.” Henson’s voice choked with emotions. “But in that emotional state I was in, my judgment was clouded, and I chose to believe whatever Catan said. So I finally handed you over once Catan promised not to kill you. I told him that he could use you for his agenda, but to ensure that no harm would come to you, and Catan reassured me that you would not be harmed or killed in any way. And then we left, completely heartbroken of giving you away to one of the most evil vampires on earth. I couldn’t sleep for days knowing what I’d done, but I knew that I had to do what I did because if I didn’t, the entire Sigma race would be at stake, and I couldn’t bear to see that happen. My heart was ripped into pieces. Then one day, I decided to seek my old friend, Kelisse, to confide in her about what had happened. I thought that she could somehow help me out. Eventually, I was able to get hold of her with the help of some Sigma tracking skills and a little Sigma magic which we had. When Kelisse heard everything I had told her about me handing you over to Catan, she was devastated. She told me that Catan had lied and would no doubt kill me, because the Key would have to be killed to gain access to the Good Pole, and you were the Key.” Henson paused for a moment, taking in Jesse’s expression.
“Yes, so I have to be killed. I know that. Catan had it all planned out. He had the Filter prepped up so when I am killed and the Good Pole is unlocked, all the magical energies of goodness from the Good Pole would flood out and be filtered before being absorbed by Catan, who would eventually hold immeasurable powers, so powerful you wouldn't even begin to dare to imagine.”
Henson shot Jesse a wry smile. “But the truth of the fact is … even if you were killed by Catan, he still wouldn’t be able to unlock the Good Pole. I only knew that after Kelisse told me about it.”
A shrill scream pierced the air, and all heads turned to look at Catan, who growled in a sickening loud voice, “What do you mean I wouldn’t be able to access the Good Pole? Kill Jesse. Unlock the Good Pole. Simple math. Everyone in the supernatural circle knows that the Key has to be destroyed to unlock the Good Pole. What are you trying to get at, Henson?”
Henson chuckled briefly, with a mysterious grin on his face. “You see, Catan … nothing is turning out the way you want it to be. You know why? Because Jesse … is not the Key, anymore.”
“What?! What do you mean she’s not the Key? She is the Key to the Good Pole! Simple as that! Now you’re the one who’s lying!!”
Jesse turned to look at Henson, mixed emotions plastered on her face. “So I’m not the Key anymore?”
Henson nodded slowly. “Yes. After I’ve planted the Kiss of Sigma on you and turned you into a human, you’ve lost all supernatural ties you were bound with before you were a human, and that includes being the Key. By becoming a human, you’ve been stripped of your role as the Key of the Good Pole, and now the universe is working to assign a new Key, but I’m not sure who it’s going to be though. So be rest assured that you’re no longer the Key, and even if Catan kills you, he won’t get what he wants. It was Kelisse who told me all about this, since she knows a lot of such things. But she’s fearful for you, knowing that if you’re in Catan’s hands, you were bound to be killed by him. That is why when I realized the mistake I’ve done, I immediately rushed here to save you from being killed … and here I am now. I will not let Catan lay a single finger on you, not when you’re our own kind, a Sigma …”
Tears rolled down Jesse’s cheeks. Her chest was heaving with a roller-coaster of emotions, and she couldn’t believe that she had a blood brother. She couldn’t believe that she was a Sigma all along. She had been a vampire almost all her life after she was turned into one. And now, she stumbled upon the shocking revelation that she was actually a Sigma. She couldn’t register the fact that she had Sigma blood in her veins, but she knew that sooner or later, she would have to get used to it, just like the time when she first became a vampire and she had to slowly adapt to a new supernatural lifestyle, and it hadn’t been an easy ride, but eventually, she got there.
Catan’s deafening shrieks pierced the air again. “No! No! No!” His eyes were bloodshot red, and he looked like he was on the verge of taking all of them down with his bare hands. “I’ve been this close to obtaining the powers of the Good Pole, and now you come here to tell me I don’t have the Key at all? Th-th-this is outrageous! This is insane! I’m so stark mad that I just don’t care if I kill all of you. Right now!” Catan paced around like a caged animal, and then turned to face all of them, his face burning with lava anger, looking like it would explode at any moment. He stretched his arms out, and black swirls funneled out from them like tornadoes. “Once I kill all of you, I’ll come after all the Sigma members of this world! I’ll wipe out all the Sigma race! I-I’ll kill all of you useless worms!!!!”
Henson knew without a doubt that Catan meant every word he had spouted out, and his heart began to tremble in deep panic and fear for their safety, and the survival of the whole Sigma race.
“Let’s get out of here!” Henson commanded urgently, gesturing everyone to huddle around him. “Hold my hands and I’ll teleport all of us out of here in a jiffy! Quick!”
Without wasting another second, Jesse, Kalista and all the other Sigma men did as told, huddling around Henson. “We need to link hands now! So I’ll be able to teleport all of us out of here! Out of this hell!” Everyone began to link hands with one another, hearts drumming within their chests.
Jesse was about to link her hand with one of the Sigma men when she felt a strong impact slammed against her, sending her flying across the air and she crashed against one of the white walls, pain searing through her body. Her head throbbed in pain and as she opened her eyes to a sight of blurriness, she saw tinges of black swirls around her. She knew what had happened … Catan had started to use his powers on all of them. Once her focus became clearer, she ran her eyes around her surroundings, and was devastated to see that all the other Sigmas were tossed around in the air like toys, evil black swirls zooming around them like slithering snakes. Jesse knew that they were all going to be doomed.
“All of you will not escape my wrath now!” Catan raged on, his fury unquenched. “First, I will put an end to Henson’s life, for you have betrayed me, and caused me so much agony! You’ll die first!”
“No!!!!!” Jesse cried, scrambling to her feet, trying to get over to Henson’s side.
But it was too late … Catan had already formed undulating swirls around his hands, ready to shoot them in Henson’s direction. Henson was still writhing on the floor from being hit by one of Catan’s swirls.
Catan raised his arms higher, ready to pull the trigger on his swirls.
All of a sudden, before Catan could fire off his swirls in Henson’s direction, the whole place trembled, as though being ripped by a giant earthquake. Jesse stumbled and fell on her knees again, feeling helpless as the mysterious quake sent her jerking around on the floor. What in the world was happening?
25. Dark Angel
Catan slipped and fell as well, the impact of the earthquake growing intense, sending everyone thrashing around on the floor like rubber toys.
Then, a thunderous explosion wailed in the air from above, so deafening that Jesse’s ears were ringing as though there were sirens blaring inside her eardrums. The columns around the foyer were cracked due to the impact, and almost collapsed. The violent tremors had finally quelled, as if the earthquake was losing its momentum. And then, the earthquake finally stopped.
Jesse was able to catch her breath again, and she flicked her glance upward at where the sound of the explosion had come from. The explosion had ripped apart the entire roof of white clouds above, as sunlight streamed into the den, casting bright yellow lights around the room, brightening up the whole place for the f
irst time. A figure finally emerged from the clouds above, descending toward all of them in a vision of white. Her long bright white hair flowing around her face in glossy tangles, she gracefully floated downward, an aura of supremacy and majesty about her.
All the Sigma men, who were starting to scramble back to their feet, cast their glances above to see who this mysterious visitor was. Kalista had finally got back to her feet, and she headed over to Jesse, huddling close to her, as if the two were sisters. Catan sprang back up with renewed anger fueling within him, and he turned to look at the intruder who had torn apart the roof of his Maze of Doom.
When the mysterious visitor finally landed on the ground in the center of the den, ribbons of sunlight casting shimmering gleams on her hair, everyone around her gasped. Some of them didn’t know who this woman was, but it seemed Catan knew, and he was more furious than ever.
“Dove!” Catan screamed out her name. “What in the world are you doing in my lair? Who gave you the right to intrude my place like this?”
“Dove?” Jesse murmured. She had heard about this powerful Enchantress before, but she didn’t know that much about her. She turned to look at Kalista, who shot her a blank look. It seemed as though Kalista had no idea who Dove was.
“Are you Dove?” Henson whispered, looking as though he was in awe of her.
Jesse cast a glance at Henson, wondering how did Henson know about Dove. Had they crossed paths before?
Dove didn’t respond. She stood there in the center regally, as if everything revolved around her.
Jesse could feel the essence of immeasurable power emanating from her, and Dove was not someone whom you would want to provoke, for she might unleash her great powers on you.
Nobody spoke for a moment, as all their eyes were trained at Dove, who scanned her surroundings as if everything around was beneath her. She whirled around, her cold blue eyes running the length of the room, and her eyes narrowed in distaste at everything her eyes set on. Jesse felt chills run down her spine when Dove’s ominous eyes were fixed on her, but only momentarily, before Dove swiveled her glance to the others who were in the room. The Sigma men gaped at her as though she was someone to be reckoned with, for she held an aura so great that it practically made each and everyone of them speechless. Finally, Dove’s gaze was set on Catan, who was still trembling in fury, fists clenched at his sides.
“You got some nerve breaking into my lair like this!” Catan roared. “What audacity you have! Don’t think you’ll get away with it!”
Dove scoffed at Catan, and she finally spoke for the first time, in a composed voice, as though she was a royal queen addressing her people. “Oh, Catan, what a pleasant surprise to see you.”
“You can do away with those banters, Dove!” Catan growled through gritted teeth. “I have no intention in talking to you at all! In fact, I have the deepest urge to slice your throat right now and rip your heart out!”
Dove scoffed again, shaking her head in disbelief. “Are you sure you want to test me, Catan? I wouldn’t be here if I knew that you were powerful enough to take me down.”
Catan gasped, a slight lump traveling down his throat. “What are you talking about, Dove?”
“Don’t you see, Catan? The circle of the Great Darkness has been completed. And now, I’ve amassed all the great powers of the Dark Pole. All those gargantuan amounts of dark energies are flowing inside my body now, powering me up, making me feel invincible.”
Catan’s jaw dropped. “Does that mean that you’ve-”
“Killed the Key to the Dark Pole?” Dove finished the sentence for him. “Yes, I killed her.”
