“You don’t play fair, do you?”

He looked down at his twitching cock. Her feline smile in place—or the best she could fathom—she stretched her arms above her head. “No, I’m just playing.”

“Good, I like to play too, to win.”

“Daddy taught me all he knew about playing to win.”

“Let the games begin. I’ll show you a few things Daddy didn’t think to teach his little girl.”

His cocky, unofficial promise raised the stakes a little higher. “Oh, that should be good.”

Landy’s gaze roamed over her hips and up to her breasts. Embarrassed and vulnerable, she tried to hide from his view.

“No, no! You get no mercy,” he said, settling her arms on either side of her hips. He opened her legs and looked at her nakedness. “You make me crazy.”

  “Is that a good thing?”

He bobbed his eyebrows. “Oh, yeah.” He smiled. “My dick twitches when my eyes look at you.”

She smiled, but the heat of her blush scorched her cheeks. “Do you have to be so blunt?” This is supposed to be a special night.

  “I’m sorry. I’ll behave.”

“You are behaving, in the most inappropriate manner.”

“There is something I’ve wanted to try.”

“What’s that?” She rested on her elbows and watched him kneel beside the bed.

He scooted her closer to the bed’s edge.

Her cheeks radiated the heat to her chest. “What are you doing?

“This.” Inch by inch, he drew nearer to her pussy, and his tongue took a sampling. “My little piece of pie.”

“How”—she swallowed hard—“how is it like pie?”

“You taste as sweet as you smell.”

He lapped the opening of her wet channel again, and little spasms convulsed inside her. Long finger stroked from her clit to the opening just below. Her left leg twitched. Deeper he explored her with his digit. The tension of her virginity met his touch, and a sharp pain shot through her spine.

“I’m going to try and open you now.”

  “Why?” she gasped.

“It will make the next step easier.”

“Oh.” How does he know? Before she asked, he gave her another instruction.

  “Lay back for me.”

  She did.

He applied extra pressure to expand the tissue. She gasped and rose from her prone position, her face covered with a light sheen of sweat, her teeth clamped onto her bottom lip, and she panted to keep from screaming. “Landy!” she whimpered after the ebb of pain subsided.

He lay next to her in a second, smoothing her hair back from her forehead. “Rae Anne, baby, I don’t want to hurt you.”

She relaxed in his arms and looked into his eyes. She took his hand and placed it on the hot mound of her womanhood. “Love me. Make me yours.”

He hesitated for a second, but re-inserted his finger, maneuvered it around to stretch the inner hold. The strain of her hymen caused ferocious pain between her legs.

“We’ll have to do it the old-fashioned way.”

“Okay.” She panted, and tears blurred her vision.

Landy eased onto her and set the head of his thick cock at the barrier he would breach in a matter of seconds.

“Sweetheart, there is no easy way to do this, but I promise I will…”

  “Make it quick.”

He applied the uncomfortable pressure. She closed her eyes and braced herself for the pain.

  “Hold onto my hands.”

In desperation, she gripped his hands on either side of her head.

He kissed her on the forehead, and then on her cheek. “It will be over before you…” Before he finished his statement, he pushed.

Her screams went unheard by anyone as he took them and sealed them inside his lips. He eased back, and she gazed into his eyes.

“Is it in all the way?” she asked after the pain dulled.

  “Yes. You did it, baby.”

He didn’t move inside her. She bumped against his hips with her own.

“Easy, no need to rush,” he pointed out.

Landy lifted his hips and plunged down. With each thrust, he dipped deeper inside to her core. She bucked like a wild cat under him. Over and over, he entered and exited the channel until the soft sounds of her wetness filled in the spaces of their intermittent breaths. Her first orgasm came quick, and the release flowed hot and slick over his shaft.

“That’s my girl,” he said, praising her.

A deep thrust later, his orgasm erupted, filling her completely.

  * * * *

Rae Anne Jamison, you are the luckiest girl in the world. She lay in Landy’s quiet bedroom wrapped in his arms. The stillness of the room enhanced the sounds of their deep breathing. Nineteen is a good age to be in love, especially if it’s with Landy Laurent. Mere children when they met, the two grew up together. Landy was her everything—from best friend to boyfriend and, now, the love she had for this young man grew every day.

She looked under the covers, down her naked body, and smiled at the tangle of arms and legs. Landy’s dark arm rested against the light brown skin of her stomach, and his strong legs were wrapped around hers, binding her literally in his love. The notion excited her. The strong beats of his heart thumped against her back, and she sighed with contentment. A wandering thought entered her mind and gave her pause in her euphoria.

Should I feel a physical difference?

The moment they gave themselves to one another was the most special moment of her life. The love she felt for him grew leaps and bounds in one magical afternoon. When I left the house this morning, I was an innocent young girl. But now, I’m a woman—a woman in love. She closed her eyes in hope of recapturing the wonderful moment and reliving it all over again.

It’s funny how the transformation from childhood to womanhood took all of five seconds to complete. When Landy broke the barrier that maintained one passage of life, it was the most intense pain she’d ever felt. But like the snap of her fingers, he lent his support and gave her comfort. She had no recollection of the intensity of the pain in the afterglow of it now. One thing for certain, she belonged to him, and he to her, from that night forward. That’s what they had vowed to each other.

She cuddled closer to him and hugged his arm to her breast. “Landy Laurent, you make me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world.”

His lips brushed her ear. The tingling zipped down to her feet. Her toes curled inward. Landy softly palmed her right breast. She heard his moan of approval and intangible murmured response. Her fingers curled around his and guided his hand to her lips. She kissed his palm.

  “Landy?”

  “Huh?”

How can you sleep at a time like this? “Did we just make love or fuck our brains out?”

“What?” Landy jerked up and looked down at her. “We didn’t fuck.”

The wounded look in his eyes almost made her laugh for a split second before the seriousness in his voice captured her attention.

“I can’t believe you said that!”

Rae Anne giggled. “Don’t be so hurt. I know we made love. I just wanted to see if you were awake.”

“I’m awake now.” He rolled until she lay on top of him, and then he swatted her butt. “I don’t want to hear you talk like that again.”

She flipped back over and hugged him close. “I love being in your arms.”

“What are you going to do while I’m away?” he whispered.

The question brought a tinge of sadness to her heart and dulled the serenity of their lovemaking. She turned onto her side to face him. She imprinted every inch of his face to memory. His dark olive skin brought out his Creole ancestry. She smoothed a hand over his now-stubbly face—the whisker burns on her cheeks tingled, but they didn’t hurt. She bore them as a medal of honor, like a passage of rites into womanhood.

“You are the most handsome man. Just looking at you takes my breath away.”
/>   “Don’t change the subject. I need to know you’ll be busy.”

“I’ll go to school, do my civic duty for Daddy, and wait for you, of course,” she answered, hoping to hide her fears.

“Good. I don’t like the idea of you being alone all summer.”

Landy traced her cheek with his thumb. She grazed her hand along his cheek and then up to his new hair. She missed his long, thick locks, but the Marine Corps high-and-tight hairstyle suited him. His muscled arms reminded her of the fullback position he had played in school, but due to the Corps training, he had become a toned fighting machine with rock hard arms.

“Oh, Landy!” She looked to his blurred image. Tears she tried to hold back welled up and embarrassed her. She wrapped her arms around him to hide them before they fell.

  “Rae Anne? What’s wrong?”

“I’ll be all right.” The realization that he was leaving hit her hard in the heart. “I just worry about you.” She bit her bottom lip as the clock ticked off the remaining time they had together.

“I’ll be back.” He pulled her away. “Think of our separation as a minor delay in plans.”

“I know. It’s just a short stop, a quick pass from boot camp, but you are going to Iraq. I have every right to worry about you.”

“Rae Anne, I will be over there for support only. To deter a stand against the government. A line in the sand.”

“Not yet!” She cried. “I’m all set for your leaving, but after all is said and done, it’s too quick.” She hugged him tighter. “In the morning, your plane flies out to San Diego. Then you’ll be aboard a ship to Iraq.”

“Rae, we knew this day would come. It is part of our plans, remember?”

“I know.” She sniffled. None of her preparation had really primed her for his departure a bit.

He set her back and gazed into her eyes. “I promise I can take care of myself. I am one badass motherfucker.”

She laughed at his arrogant testimonial. “I remember.”

Although Landy could be mean as a snake sometimes, possessive and prideful to a fault, he wasn’t the type to go looking for a fight, but he wasn’t going to back down from one either. The career choice he had signed up for and began tomorrow morning didn’t fit with his usual temperament. He was a soldier, going to a war that had nothing to do with the United States.

“I hate the thought of you being alone in another country, on another continent, so far away. It scares me.”

Landy’s one eyebrow cocked high. He narrowed his eyes. “Rae Anne Jamison, you are the daughter of Representative Robert Jamison of Texas, Democrat extraordinaire to the United States Congress. It is time to put on your public face.”

Rae Anne knew showing fear wasn’t an option her father or Landy embraced. “I know, but with you I can share my fears. Out there in the real world, I’ll be the brave fiancé waiting for you.”

“That’s my girl.” Landy brushed a kiss across her lips. “I will come back to you.”

“While you’re at your assigned post in Iraq, we can write one another. I will keep myself busy helping Daddy and his staff with his election campaign during the day. And during the fall, I will begin classes in Corpus Christi.” She hoped her smile at least looked reassuring if she didn’t sound it. “I’ll plan out our first reunion in the spring.”

“Where will we meet, pray tell?”

She straddled his legs. “I will meet you in some tropical paradise for R and R next spring.”

Landy laid her back. “Here’s something to remember me by.” His kiss deepened quick and hungry.

“Here’s my reply to that.” She gave back what he gave her and embedded the love she felt for him into his taste buds.

“I can’t wait to meet you for R and R,” he said with a low growl.

Rae Anne grasped onto a small glimmer of a plan and vowed to work out the details later. She would do what she always did to get through the hard spots, employ the same skills she used to survive Texas politics to suit for her selfish needs. She’d make plans, organize, promote her father’s campaign on the local level, and, at the same time, use his connections to keep abreast of Landy’s comings and goings.

It’s a secret I will have to keep.

  Chapter Two

Landy had known from the moment Rae Anne Jamison came into his life that she was his. It all started on a very traumatic summer. The life-changing events that took his parents in a car crash set off a chain reaction of turmoil he feared would’ve crushed him to death if not for her and Grandpa Joe. The older man had taken him in without question or hesitation—the fact that he visited him at the time of their deaths made the transformation convenient and easier. By the season’s end, she had become his best friend and someone he trusted as a confidant to his emotional breakdowns.

Like a breath of fresh air, Rae Anne had walked up to the house one day during the depths of his depression, sat on the porch swing and waited. Thirty minutes later, realizing she wasn’t going to leave, he came outside to meet her. Once he did, he didn’t have a single blue day. He felt nothing but love all around him.

Growing up, they had done everything together: ridden bikes, fished, and swum in the stock tank on the ranch. At the end of their freshman year, she had gotten his interest on a more sensual level.

Now, this very night, the two inseparable childhood friends were much, much more. She owned his heart.

He looked down at her. I’ve loved you from day one. Landy regretted little in his life, but seeing Rae Anne in his arms, trying to set a brave front, she never looked more beautiful or sexy with her mussed hair, bruised lips, and drenched with the smell of their sex.

Why couldn’t you wait until you married her to take her virginity?

His old-fashioned upbringing peeped through the badass exterior he erected for himself, a hazard of having been raised by an old man, but in that rearing, he learned the value of morals and traditions.

You will have a lot to make up to her when you come home from your tour.

Landy didn’t care. Maybe it was best this way, everything happens for a reason. Besides, there was no way in hell Rae Anne’s father would sit idly by and let her marry him. He would have a flipping fit first. He would refuse to attend the wedding, citing that his daughter married lowlife trash, and then he would disown her for disgracing the influential political family. And just for the fun of it, he’d send Landy to hell in a handbasket for soiling his little girl.

At least I protected her from an unplanned pregnancy. One she’d have to face alone since I’ll be in Iraq. Thank God I used my brains and not only my head. Stop beating yourself up! This is a night for something special, not dwelling on things you can’t control or change now. He kissed her cheek. I will make it up to you. I will be the man you deserve for the rest of your life.

Rae Anne looked up. “What are you thinking about?”

“I think we should get married next year.” Landy could tell he surprised her with his plan.

“Why, Landy Laurent, you should be ashamed of yourself.” Rae Anne gently tapped him on the shoulder. “Proposing to me without a ring in your hand, and while we are naked and all,” she admonished, batting her long lashes over beautiful green eyes.

“I know it’s still a while away, but it’s the right thing to do. Besides, I don’t mind the wait.”

Rae Anne looked into his eyes for a long moment. He put himself and his heart out on a limb, and her silence made him uneasy, until she smiled.

“Landy, you have an old soul about you, and I never grow tired of it.”

“What are you saying?” He swallowed hard, bracing for her rejection.

“One memory I have of my mother is her words of advice for finding a husband.”

  “What did she say?”

“She told me to find a man like my father. In a way, I did.”

“I’m not as rich as your daddy.”

She placed a finger over his lips. “I don’t care about that. I only want you.” />
“I can’t offer you much, but I promise to give what I have.”

“I’ll take it. You are everything to me, a hardworking, blue-collar man—my man.”

“Yes, I’m also bullheaded, see things only my way.”

Rae Anne chuckled. “Well, that’s not all bad.”

  “How so?”

“You analyze things from all angles before you dive in.” She sat up, crossed her legs, and faced him.

  “I’m sorry I don’t have a ring, but…”

“Shhhh!” She placed her finger on his lips again. “I love you. I don’t care about a ring. Just be careful, keep your ass down, and come home to me.”

“Yes, ma’am. I promise to give you a comfortable life.”

  “Look at me.”

His eyes roamed over her body. “Oh, I am.” Her milky skin glowed with a touch of bronze, the result of a tanning bed at the spa. “You are the most beautiful girl, uh, woman, I’ve ever seen, and I’d like nothing more than to make you happy.”

  “Well?”

His gaze wandered to her full, perky breasts and the rosy buds surrounding her nipples. Lightly, he fingered one. The pebble hardness of her nipple made his cock twitch with desire. “I like you naked,” he decided out loud and laid her back.

She smacked him on a bared ass cheek.

“You’re gonna make that feel better right?”

Rae Anne giggled. “What did you have in mind?”

“Forever.” He brushed her pliant lips with his. “I love you, Rae Anne.” The deep huskiness of his voice caught in his throat. He guided her hand down to the new erection. He held her closer and rejoiced in the heat of her supple body, all the way to his heart. “I will marry you one day, but right now, I just want to spend this night with you.”

“Just come home to me, Landy.”

  “I will.”

  Tenderly, he took her again.

  Chapter Three

“Landy, you look so handsome,” Rae Anne said, complimenting his prideful stance in his starched utility uniform. Never had she seen him so happy or determined to be someone. She loved him more for not only the dream but also the guts to go for his ambitions.
