Grace stood by, her eyes brimming with tears, delight in her expression.
“You joined the Marines. When?” he asked, while still trying to take it all in.
“Not long after I returned from South America. It helped me to grow up. To take responsibility for my own life and stop blaming others for my past. But I didn’t come here to talk about our history, at least not today. We both made mistakes, Kyle, and I’m just as much to blame as you are. I want you to know I am back to stay and I’d love to come work on the ranch with you. I’ve missed you, Kyle. Missed my big brother. I heard you were getting married, and I wanted to be there for you. So how about you introduce me to your new bride,” David said, as he looked at Grace and smiled.
Kyle turned to her. “Grace, this is my brother, David. I am so glad he’s back for good, because we sure could use his help. David, this is the love of my life, Grace.”
David leaned over and hugged Grace close. “It’s good to meet you, Grace.” He turned back to Kyle. “She’s good for you. I can see the change in you, and I’m glad. We’ve both changed. Grown up. We have a lot to talk about, you and I, but that’s a discussion for another time. Right now, let celebrate this special day.”
And that’s exactly what they did.
