“You’re welcome,” was all Ketra managed to say.

As Tandie drove away, Rocky shook Trevor’s hand and congratulated him on the upcoming nuptials. “Sure will be fun watching your folks’ reaction to this event.” He chuckled and walked with them back to the guest cabins.

“I’ll let you know what Mom says after I call her.”

“I’ll call my folks tonight. I’m not sure what will be more shocking, the fact that I’m getting married again, or who I’m going to marry.”

“I would like to be a fly on the wall when your dad explains about Mary Jo to your mom,” Rocky said with a devilish laugh.

“I guess my dad will be equally surprised,” Ketra said.

They reached Trevor’s truck and Rocky detoured to the barn. “I’ve got to make sure Carter’s cabin is cleaned out. Ross’ll be coming in tonight. He decided not to bunk with Dom. Said he’d rather have Carter’s cabin.”

“I’ll be back tomorrow,” Trevor said. “I’ve got to take a pretty lady into Flag and buy a diamond.”

“You know it’s gonna have to be bigger than her sister’s, right?” Rocky joked.

“Thanks for planting that seed.” Trevor cast a quick look at his fianceé.

He carried Ketra’s packages into her house. She hung the dress in the closet and put the jewelry in the top drawer of her dresser. “I guess I’ll call my mom now.”

Trevor snagged her around the waist and hauled her to the bed, where they collapsed, arms entwined, lips locked. When she couldn’t breathe, she pushed him away and ran her fingers through his hair.

“I love you,” he whispered against her temple.

  “I love you, too.”

He leaned up on one elbow. “Do you really want to get married at the ranch?”

  She nodded.

“I think it’s an awesome idea. I also think we should do it soon. I’m not crazy about you living next door to Brooks.”

“He’s not going to hurt me.”

“I’m pretty sure he won’t. But I don’t want you to be stressed out about it.” He kissed her again before adding, “That was very kind, by the way.”

She toyed with the buttons on his shirt.

“Keep doing that and I won’t be able to leave.” The next kiss led to removing clothes. He sat up and tugged his shirt back on. “Okay, I’m leaving. I’ll call you later. Let me know how it goes with your mom.”

“And I want to know what your dad says. It’s funny, don’t you think?”

A wide smile lit up his face. “Yeah. It’ll be fun seeing them together at the wedding.”

She watched his butt as he walked to his customized tricked-out truck, smiling at the knowledge that he’d be back tomorrow. Just a few weeks earlier she’d been terrified of the handsome stranger who reminded her of the man who’d ruined her life. Now she found herself engaged to him.

She picked up the phone and laughed out loud. Only a short while ago she’d been crying and complaining to her mother about the same man she’d just agreed to marry.

“Hi, Mom. You got some time? You better sit down. I’ve got a story you’re never going to believe.”
