EMP Survivors (Book 1): Destination Lost

The window area became even more crowded as more passengers joined them.
"I see it. It is a pier," a woman cried. "Oh, thank God."
"And a Ferris wheel," another added.
"Yep, it is. Holy crap, we must be in Atlantic City," Holly said
. "Could the storm really have pushed us that far?"
"Maybe Myrtle Beach. They have a big Ferris wheel too."
"Who cares," Garrett said. "So long as it's American soil."
Word passed back through the boat, and soon everyone knew what the few at the window could see. The atmosphere inside the boat lightened considerably. It was like they'd all won the lottery. There were smiles, and hugs amongst people who'd only met a few horrific hours ago. They were like kindred spirits
now. United as a team through the trial of enduring common hardships. A time-tested method for creating strong groups.
"Are we there yet?" a tiny voice from the back of the boat asked. A few adults laughed at the familiar question, but before anyone could answer, the motion of the boat changed. There was a grinding noise coming from outside, and it seemed to be stuck. The sound of water hitting the hull became less frequent, and when it did hit, the boat rocked harder.
"Landfall," Holly cried. "We're on the beach."
Before she could even finish her sentence, the short man made a mad dash for the main door. He pushed several people out of his way, knocking them to the ground. Before he could be stopped, he had the door open and was off, tearing down the beach. No one else seemed to care, and soon they all began piling out onto the beach.
"I feel like Christopher Columbus," Garrett said. "Damn, but it's good to be on American shores.
"I couldn't have said it better myself," Holly answered. "So, my dear, you've just endured the adventure of a lifetime and lived to tell the story. What are you going to do now?"
"I sure as hell ain't going to Disneyland," Garrett said with a smile. "I do have a plan though." Holly smiled and kissed him. "I believe that I have a daughter in New York who needs to spend some quality time with her father."
