Joey pulled her in for a hug. It killed him to hear his wife’s fear to be happy. He wanted to suck all the pain from her and put it on his own shoulders. The idea that she’d spent so many months thinking him dead weighed on him.

“Listen, we have each other, we have Evelyn, our families . . . the new little one,” he touched her belly, “and we have happiness. There is no reason to squander the good days in dread of bad ones that may never come. Let’s live in this moment, and if something changes down the road, we’ll deal with it then.”

He bent down and found her lips for a kiss. She kissed him back and hugged him hard.

  “You okay?” Joey asked.

“Yes,” she smiled and kissed her finger tips, then rubbed them along the etched letters of The Preston Six.

  After the book stuff:

First thing, I want to thank you so much for taking this journey with me. I have spent the last couple years in the world(s) of the Preston six and saying goodbye to friends is never easy.

The Preston Six will always be a special series for me and I will continue to go back to them in my thoughts and ask them what they are doing, who are they with and what crazy adventures have they gotten drawn into? They’ve been through so much over the course of six books and I think at the end, they found a happiness they can live with.

While this is the end of this series, I have many thoughts and ideas on other books in this world. I’d love at some point tell the parent’s story, or even Marcus’s side of things. The journey of Evelyn, Will and Cindy could also make for an interesting tale. But for now, this is the end.
