Nicky

Sergi snorted. “He’s probably on the phone right now looking for someone to take her out. That is a man you cannot trust to tell you today is Monday.”
“I’ll call the hotel and get extra guards on duty.” Nikoli reached for his phone.
“And I will put our plan in place.” Sergi shook his head. “Some men don’t know a gift of life when it’s offered to them. Arthur Bailey is about to find out we mean business.”
Chapter Fifteen
The three hour trip from Albany to New York was a busy trip for the three men in the limo. Nikoli had called his son and told him of the meeting with Serenity’s father. Everyone was well aware of the fact that at the moment Serenity’s life was in extreme danger. Sergi had seen something in the other man’s eyes that told him he wouldn’t wait long before he made his move.
Between last night and his meeting with Arthur, Nikoli realized something. Life was just too Goddamn short to take chances he no longer wanted. He wanted to move forward, not wait for the right moment anymore.
He spoke to his people at the hotel and got things started. He would be taking his life back the moment he got to the city.
As soon as they entered the city limits Sergi received a phone call. When he answered, he gasped and his eyes went wide. He listened for a moment then hung up the phone. Looking over at the other two men he informed them, “An attempt was made on Serenity. A high-powered rifle took out the window of the shop she was buying some clothes from. Nicky and another guard were with her. The guard lost his life protecting them.”
Nikoli froze in his seat. “Nicky and Serenity? Are they still alive?”
“Da, the only one killed or hurt was the guard.” Sergi tapped his finger on his chin. Reaching for his phone, he called a number and told the other end to take the man down.
Yuri looked over at Nikoli and then back to Sergi. “That stupid man just made his biggest error in judgement yet to date. He didn’t think we would do it.” Shaking his head, he whispered, “I pray Serenity can forgive us for what we are about to do.”
Twenty minutes later, they entered the hotel via the underground parking lot. When they got to Nikoli’s suite a few minutes later, they found everyone was there and they were looking worried.
Sergi went over to Serenity and knelt in front of her. “Are you all right child?”
Serenity nodded with tears in her eyes. “I’m fine but someone died today.”
“Yes, we heard.” Sergi sighed. “But I need to know something. Something only you can tell me.”
Serenity looked at the other man in question. “What is that?”
“We are going to destroy your father. He will lose everything. You see we went to try to bargain with him this morning and while he agreed to leave you alone, his words didn’t quite ring true. Within hours, he attempted to take your life and we do not think it was by accident. We warned him, even gave him a choice, leave you alone and we leave him alone. He looked me right in the eyes and said he would take the deal. He lied right to my face. You understand that I cannot allow this to stand, do you not?”
Serenity nodded. “I do understand. Take the bastard down. Leave him and his family with nothing. My aunt, his wife has known about me from before I was born. She did nothing to help me. She deserves no less than he will get.”
“I think the man owes you much more than he can possibly give you,” Sergi stated. “I know you know how to move funds from bank to bank. If you want some of what your father is hiding, I urge you to take it now before someone else gets it”
She gazed steadily into the older man’s eyes. Reaching out, she gently cupped his cheek. “Thank you for the offer but I want nothing that man has. The money in those accounts belong to the people he stole it from, the people who paid him under the table to fix a deal for them. That’s blood money and I don’t want it.”
Sergi nodded. Getting to his feet he stated, “Then we begin. Arthur Bailey will feel the wrath of the Bratva full force. In three days, he will be left with nothing. So be it.”
Nikoli went over to Bella and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her into his embrace, he whispered to her ear, “I want to tell you something.”
Bella looked up into his eyes and asked, “What would that be?”
“You and I are getting married tonight,” he insisted.
“We are?” She gasped out.
“Da, we are. I’m not waiting any longer. Sergi and Yuri will stand as our witnesses and I will finally claim you in front of God and my friends. You and Malina belong to me and it’s about time I claimed you.”
“If this is what you really want.” Bella nodded slowly. “But...”
Nikoli tilted his head at her.
She stepped out of his arms and turned to face him. “I waited almost ten years for you to... want me. A-and I know you are the way you are but a woman needs more than ‘hey, I want to claim you!’ ” Tears filled her eyes as she rushed out of the room.
Nikoli stared at her departure and his arms dropped to his sides.
Sergi walked over to stand next to him.
“Don’t say anything,” Nikoli stated in a low voice. “I know I messed up again.”
Sergi patted him on the back. “Even old Russian dogs can learn new tricks, my boy. I suggest you do it right.”
Nikoli heaved out a sigh. Then he stalked down the hall and pushed the door open. He angrily marched over to the bed where Bella was lying as she cried.
She gazed up at him.
He snarled and stepped to the nightstand then pulled the drawer open in such a fury, the whole drawer dropped to the floor with a clatter. He bent down and grabbed something then stomped over to the bed.
Bella’s eyes rounded as she sniffled and stared up at him.
He frowned and scooped her up. Swinging her around, he halted.
Malina stood in the doorway and raised her little fists. “If you hurt her I will make you pay!” Eyes the exact same color as his gleamed up at him.
Nikoli was struck in the gut by her small fierce looking face. She looked so much like him it was stunning. “I do not intend to hurt your mother or you. Step aside little Silvanic child and follow me.” He marched over toward her.
Unmoving, she stared him down. “You promise you won’t hurt her?”
He nodded while looking entirely earnest. “I solemnly swear.”
Shaking her head and giving him a beady eyed look, she reluctantly stepped aside.
“W-what are y-you doing, Nikoli?” Bella asked while gasping.
He gave her no answer as he carried her to the main room.
Little Malina kept stepping right behind him.
Everyone looked up at their sudden appearance.
Yuri, Kirill, Misha, Sergi and Nicky halted their conversation.
Nikoli strode over to the sofa.
Serenity gasped and stood up from the sofa.
He glanced at her. “I will attend to you soon, but first I have to make something else right.” He set Bella down on the couch.
Serenity stepped over to Malina and put her arm around her shoulder. Raven came over and joined them.
Nikoli took a deep breath and seemed to bolster himself as he slowly dropped to one knee in front of Bella.
Gasps could be heard throughout the room.
He raised the item he’d taken from the nightstand. Opening the ring box, he spoke, “Bella...” he paused and cleared his throat. “We met years ago. I know I treated you badly. However, I think I loved you even then. I... did harm and in turn, I never got to see my child born. I want to state now, that I intend to take the rest of my life righting that wrong I did to you. I want...” He again faltered. “I want to tell you how much I love you. How much you have meant to my life. I...Please consent to be my wife...Say you will marry me and give me the one thing I never had, for all these years. Happiness. Please say yes?”
Malina giggled as she jumped in place from behind him.
Bella stared at him like she’d never s
een this man before in her life. She had to close her open jaw. Then she took a deep breath as everyone in the room waited tensely...especially Nikoli. Nodding her head, she whispered, “Yes...”
Cheers from the men broke out as they let out an odd roar.
The women all jumped at the loud yelling with the exception of Raven. She leaned in close to Serenity and Malina. “It’s some sort of Bratva victory call?”
Nikoli slipped the huge diamond onto her finger, then grabbed a startled Bella up and kissed her soundly.
“Bravo, Silvanic!” Sergi called out.
Bella still looked stunned as she asked him, “Should we do this right now? I mean the timing could be better.”
“The timing could always be better,” Nikoli told her. “We only have three hours before we are joined. I’m sure you will want to dress and get ready.”
“Three hours?” Bella exclaimed.
“Three hours,” Nikoli stated.
Raven rushed over. “Three hours to have a wedding ready? You’ve got to be kidding!”
He swung his intense blue-grey stare over at her.
“Oh... I see you aren’t kidding. Okay ladies, let’s do this!” Raven announced.
Yuri smiled at his take charge wife as she rushed across the suite to get her cell phone.
Then she nodded at Serenity, Bella and Malina as they all disappeared into the bedroom.
Nikoli said nothing as he walked over to the bar area and set up some glasses. One by one, the other men joined him and grabbed a glass.
Nicky held up his glass in a silent toast to his father. Then he slammed the liquid down his throat. He knew the vodka would burn on its way down but that was a burn he didn’t mind at all.
“He was a man not worthy of claiming Serenity as his daughter that is for certain,” Nikoli told him suddenly. “Will she be okay with what is about to happen to him?”
Nicky nodded. “I think she will be. I mean the man has done nothing but try to hurt her. She just wants this finished. She wants to start living her life, not have to look over her shoulder anymore.”
“I made a very bad mistake about her and I hope one day she’ll forgive me for my stupidity. I will speak to her the first chance I get. I will welcome her to the family like I should have done before.”
Nicky nodded and smiled. “I don’t think she will know what that means but she will learn.”
“I hope the two of you will accept my apology and stay here with us. We can use both your skills but I would understand if she wants something different.”
Nicky shook his head. “She isn’t going anywhere. When we got married, she insisted I call you. She insisted we come back here to face you and settle our fight, remember?”
Sergi poured another round and held his glass high. “This family of ours just got a little bigger, with Nikoli’s new wife and daughter and Nicky’s new wife. May the gods bless us all!”
“Here, here!” Yuri cheered.
Misha lifted his glass as well and they all tapped glasses.
The news blared on the TV about the scandal involving the governor. Reporters accosted him on the steps of the government building. He looked pale as he was ushered away to his car.
Nicky shut it off and grinned at Sergi.
Sergi nodded. “It is only the beginning for the man. He will be left with nothing.”
Misha nodded. “The man is done for.”
“Speaking of beginnings,” Raven called out, “Come on to the main room!”
They went in and stood to the back to watch the event.
Nikoli waited at the table where the minister stood. ...his usual calm expression entirely absent.
Nicky leaned close to whisper to Yuri, “Am I seeing this clearly?” He stared at his nervous looking father.
Yuri chuckled. “Da, kiddo you are. Your old man is sweating this.”
Sergi laughed from beside them. “I lived to see this day for so long.”
Nicky shook his head.
Nikoli called out, “Nicky!” He motioned him over.
Nicky looked over at Serenity who stood at the small table beside them.
She shrugged as she smiled at him.
Nicky walked over and stepped up next to him.
“You shall be my best man,” his dad stated, not asking.
Nicky smiled at his usual gruff tone. “Ok, dad.”
The music started and they all turned to see Bella in a lovely lace gown. She looked the part of a bride. So beautiful her face almost glowing. She stepped across the room with Malina at her side.
Looking nervous, she almost tripped when Nikoli’s eyes caught hers.
Raven righted her and nudged her forward.
Malina giggled but stayed by her side holding the bouquet.
Then exactly three hours after Nikoli had proposed, vows were spoken in hushed voices.
Low lighting illuminated the ceremony of the ages.
Nikoli leaned in to kiss his bride...finally.
Everyone cheered.
Then Nikoli turned to peer down at his tiny daughter.
Her grey eyes grew big in her little face as he leaned down, hoisted her up and kissed her on the cheek, grabbing his bride with an arm around her shoulders, he hugged the both of them to his large body.
Yuri stood and clapped along with Kirill, Misha and a few others of the Bratva men. Then Yuri looked over at the head of the Bratva to see Sergi oddly silent and still.
Sergi then did something no man had ever witnessed and lived to tell of it.... He swiped a tear from his rugged cheek.

About K. J. Dahlen
Author of the bestselling, award winning Bratva Brothers and Satan Spawns MC Series...
I live in a small town (population495) in Wisconsin. From my deck, I can see the Mississippi River on one side and the bluffs, where eagles live and nest on the other side. I live with my husband Dave and dog Buddy. My two children are grown and I have two grandchildren. I love to watch people and that has helped me with my writing. I often use people I watch as characters in my books and I always try to give my characters some of my own values and habits.
I love to create characters and put them in a troubling situation then sit back and let them do all the work. My characters surprise even me at times. At some point in the book, they take on a life of their own and the twists and turns they create becomes the story. Of all the stories, I could write I found I like mystery/thrillers the best. I like to keep my readers guessing until the very end of the book.
