River Falls: The Wolves

“Son, what’s wrong?” My father and Dom and both stood up now and are stood in defensive postures.

“I’m not sure. I think something is wrong with Alexia.” I say and start pacing the room.

  “Logan...”

I hear her as clear as I would if she were stood right next to me. I stop pacing immediately.

“I just heard her. She called for me.” I say sounding as confused as I am.

“That’s not possible. You haven’t fully mated. You haven’t even marked her.” Dom says with a curious look on his face. A growl rips from my chest.

“I don’t care. I heard her. She needs me. Somethings wrong.” I turn towards the door not listening to what anyone is saying. I know what I heard. My father stops me and turns me so I am looking him straight in the eyes.

“Concentrate on the bond between you. However small it is. Keep trying to reach her. If she can’t tell you where she is. Just let your wolf instincts guide you. You will find her. Go.” I nod my head leave straight away. I hear him through the pack link as he instructs Dom and another wolf to follow me. He sends his beta to track us in his truck in case we need to get Alexia to the pack doctor quick and he gets the doc on stand by. He knows exactly what to do and he instructs them all to do it...

Protect the future Luna of our pack. It spurs me on even more to find and reach her.

“Alexia I’m coming.” I keep saying through our bond. Fully mated wolves have the ability to communicate with each other using just their minds. But that’s two wolves that have completed the mate process. I haven’t even marked Alexia, and she isn’t even a wolf. She is human. It shouldn’t be possible. But I know with absolute certainty that I heard her. I need to find her. She's in trouble.

I don’t hear her again but I pick up her scent, and rush toward her. I know that Dom and Derek, another member from my pack are at my side. The smell of petrol hits my nose and pushes me to go even faster not bothering to check if the others are keeping up with me. They will.

I see the truck that she doesn’t usually drive on its side and I can see Alexia through the smashed front screen. I quickly shift back into human without ever stopping. My nudity hasn’t even entered my thoughts. I just need to get to her.

“Logan” I hear her once more and then I see her head drop. As I reach the car Dom and Derek have shifted to help get her out of the car. I rip the passenger door off and slide into the cab. I take her unconscious form in my arms before tearing her seat belt off her. Derek and Dom have pulled the front screen from the truck and Dom bends to take Alexia from me so we can release her legs which are trapped under the steering column.

He receives a warning growl from me. I have no intention of letting another male touch her. Dom instantly holds his hands up in surrender and crouches lower in submission.

“Steady Logan, I’m just trying to help. We need to get her out before this thing lights up.” I pull her closer to me and motion to her legs. Together they manage to free her and I step out of the truck. She is still unconscious but I can feel and hear the steady beat of her heart. She’s alive.

The two men on either side of me shift back into fur, and together we run back towards the main road where the beta is waiting for us in the van.

I look down to my beautiful mate in my arms and try to look for a sign of any other obvious injury.

“I’ve got you baby. I’m sorry. I know you asked me to, but I can’t let you go.”

  Alexia’s POV

“I’ve got you baby. I’m sorry. I know you asked me to, but I can’t let you go.” I can feel my body being pulled and handled but my eyes refuse to open. My hearing comes and goes and I must have really hit my head, because mingled in with the mess of the crash I keep getting images of a man...naked and with wolves. A black wolf.

I think they must be close now, I keep hearing growls, but I’m not scared. I feel like I’m in heaven. Safe and secure. I snuggle closer to the warmth that surrounds me but I don’t feel like I can get close enough. My head is resting against the smoothest silk, but its hard like stone, it’s the most weird bed I’ve ever slept on. One I never want to leave.

I can hear a car door shut and feel the vibrations of the vehicle moving, they don’t have cars in heaven do they? Maybe I’m not dead after all.

“I don’t know, can we just get there faster.” I hear the soothing voice again, but it sounds angry but at the same time worried. I want to comfort the owner of the voice. Let them know I’m okay. That I can hear them. I can feel them stroking my hair.

“You need to calm down Logan. You loosing it isn’t going to help her. We’re almost there and the docs ready waiting for us.” I hear another deep voice, one that I don’t recognise. But what he said... the name...

  Logan...

  I know that name...

“You never drive. What were you doing going out when the roads were that wet. What was that important?” The magical voice says, and I feel a pair of lips place a gentle kiss upon my forehead.

I concentrate on the voice, and assume it belongs the person I have now come to realise is holding me. I want to answer them. I know the answer to their question. I know why I was driving. The strong arms wrap around me tighter as the vehicle pulls to a stop, and I push my self closer into the warmth of the embrace. I want to hear their voice again, when they talk, my body doesn’t ache as much and I want to answer them.

I hear a growl again and I feel it go through me. The growl is coming from the man holding me. But it doesn’t scare me. I know its not directed at me, and again I want to comfort him.

“Oh stop that, I’m here to take care of her. Take her to the infirmary.” A female voice says.

He growls again but walks on. The urge to comfort him is compelling me; again I concentrate on just him and try to speak. I put every bit of energy into it. If I can just get him to stop growling maybe he will hear me.

“Shh...” He stops walking and his hold on me tightens.

“Alexia?” The man says my name and I melt in his arms.

“What’s wrong Logan?” the female asks. That name again. I know that name.

“Alexia, did you say something baby?” I’m overjoyed, he heard me. I must have spoke, even though I didn’t even feel my lips move. I want to answer his earlier question so again I concentrate on him and try to talk, to tell him why I was driving.

  “Ice cream...”

  Then everything goes black.

People talking bring me out of my dreamless sleep. One voice I know, one I don’t. I can feel that I’m laying on a soft bed with blankets draped over me. I don’t know what they wash them in, but the smell is divine. I never want to leave.

“Well that’s a great idea but what exactly do I tell her?” I remember the voice as belonging to the person who carried me from my car. The voice is just as soothing to me now as it has always been. I remember what happened, although some things are uncertain in my head, like the wolves, the growling and the naked man.

  The naked Logan.

“How about you try the truth? Something you should have done in the beginning maybe?” the other person replies curtly.

“Its not as easy as that and you know it” Logan says. I can tell he is getting worked up. I also feel a little rude eavesdropping on their conversation, but I’m not sure how to get their attention to let them know I’m awake. A cough should do the job.

  It does.

“Alexia, you’re awake. How are you feeling?” Logan says rushing over to my bedside. I try to sit up and when he notices instead of helping me he gently pushes me back down shaking his head.

“No you have to stay there and rest. Do you know what happened? Do you remember? Does anything hurt?” he fires questions at me while softly holding my shoulders down.

“You may want to let her answer the first question Logan before asking her more man.” The other person says. I look over to him and nod. I tap Logan’s hand on my shoulder
to bring his attention back to me instead of glaring at the other guy. He did have a point though.

“I’m fine Logan. Let me sit up.” He looks to me, concern written all over his face but still shakes his head.

“No. Doc’s orders. You gotta rest.” Is his only answer, well if he wont help me maybe the other one will.

“Can you move him and help me sit up please?” I ask politely to the guy. He nods his head and takes no more than two steps forward when a loud growl stops him, and he holds his hands up. I realise the growling is coming from Logan and I press myself into the bed more to get away from him. I’ve never heard such an animalistic sound come from him.

“You’re scaring her Logan. Look at her.” The stranger says making the growling stop instantly and Logan looks at me, regret already filling his eyes.

“Damn, Alexia, don’t be scared. I wont hurt you. Here I’ll help you up.” He places his arm around me to help me sit up and I involuntary flinch away from him. I hear him sigh and mutter a curse word under his breath. Once I’m up he takes a step back.

“Dom can you get Doc? Tell her Alexia is awake.” Dom must be the stranger. He leaves the room instantly and quietly shuts the door behind him.

“Are you scared of me Alexia?” Logan asks, so quiet that if it there wasn’t already silence in the room, I wouldn’t have heard him.

Am I scared of him? Normally I would have said no, but I know that he was the person growling just now and I’m not entirely sure how it’s even possible to make that noise. It wasn’t only the sound though. There was a sort of power that came with it. That’s what I’m afraid of. Not him.

“Should I be?” I ask him, he scoffs and runs his hands through his hair. Then looks directly at me, taking a step toward me.

“Maybe you should” Well that wasn’t what I was expecting.

“What does that mean? Am I not safe here?” he closes the gap between him and the bed and sits in the chair that’s been pulled up close to the bed.

“You’ll always be safe with me Alexia. I would never hurt you. But that’s doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be afraid of me.” He just looks at me and I honestly don’t know what to say back to him. Thankfully though I don’t have to answer as a knock on the door sounds and is then opened letting in a pretty lady and Dom.

“Alexia, glad to see you’re awake. How are you feeling? I’m doctor Goodman, but most people call me Doc.” She smiles showing perfect white teeth, and takes a small torch out of her shirt pocket and checks in my eyes with it.

“I’m feeling fine thanks and most people call me Alex. Where am I exactly?”

“Alex it is then. You are at Logan’s house, we have informed your Aunt of what happened and she has been in to check on you and I believe she is currently downstairs. She’ll be relieved to hear you’re awake. Dom could you let her know please?” he nods his head and once again leaves the room.

She does a few more checks on me and within a few minutes of Dom leaving he returns with my aunt in tow. She flies over to my bed and crushes me in a hug, making me wince and realise I am more bruised than I thought. I don’t miss Logan take a step toward me or miss the doc sending him a warning look, one that a mother would send a child that’s about to do something it shouldn’t and he takes a step back.

“What happened sweetie? I was so worried? Why after not driving for so long did you drive today? What made you crash?” I see the concern in her face, and also the worry that maybe I didn’t crash the car on accident.

“There was a deer in the road. I got distracted and when I looked up it was there. I just turned the wheel on instinct. Stupid I know.”

“Never ever veer for deer.” Dom says and we all turn to look at him. He just shrugs his shoulders with a grin on his face.

“What? You were never taught that? You have to honk your horn, otherwise your lights just blind them.” He says like its knowledge that a baby should know.

“Well I’ll remember that for next time. Thanks.” I say with smile.

“Anytime. Well I’m sure I’ve got food to be eaten somewhere, so Alex it was nice meeting you, anything I can do just let me know.” With a two-finger salute he leaves the room.

“Ok Alex, well I’ve left you some pain killers should you need them to take away any aches, I would expect you have be sore for a few days, if you get any headaches you are to let me know straight away. Okay?” She asks me with a friendly smile.

“Will do.” I reply with a smile of me own.

“Logan, can I have a quick word please?” she asks, although I get the impression she isn’t really asking him. More telling him. He nods and follows her out the room.

“So Logan’s parents have said you can stay here for a few days, if that’s ok with you? They have the doc living pretty close and there’s always someone here, where as at home, I’m really sorry but I still really need to be at the studio. Is that ok? I’m sorry, I could just ask if I can let them have the piece later...” I cut her off from finishing what she was saying. I don’t mind too much being here. I can remember getting that text message before I hit the deer and I don’t want to be alone at home.

“It's fine, don’t worry. I’m ok being here. I know Logan and Dom seems nice too.” I reassure her.

“I’ve known Shelly, Logan’s mum, since I’ve moved here, they are good people. I wouldn’t leave you with just anyone. You know that right? I was so worried about you when they called. I’m just glad they found you. I’m not even sure how they did. You could’ve been out there all night otherwise.”

That’s a good point actually. How did they know where I was? We talk for a little while longer then we say our goodbyes, with the promise that we will talk tomorrow.

As soon as she leaves I realise that I need to get up and use the bathroom. I swing my legs out the bed and look down at what I’m wearing. A giant oversized football jersey. I’m assuming the doctor or Aunt Sara changed me. I walk with shaky legs and head to the bathroom to relieve myself and freshen up.

Looking in the mirror my hair is a mess, and my face looks tired. I can’t believe Logan saw me like this. I must be crazy, I have some stitches over my one eye. I've just been in a car crash and I’m worried about how I look in front of a guy. It’s a nice bathroom, just a bit odd for a guest room bathroom as it’s filled with only men’s things.

I head back out into the bedroom and look around, as I do I notice things I didn’t before. There’s a desk filled with school textbooks, on the back of the chair is a school bag, I’m pretty sure its Logan’s. I carry on walking to the dresser where there are some photos. There’s one of Logan with a guy that I now know is named Dom. There is another one with Logan again with two older but beautiful people. I’m guessing they are Logan’s parent’s, the male in the photo could just be an older version of Logan. Then there’s another photo. One with Logan and the girl.

Realisation hits me and I realise that I must be in Logan’s bedroom. Logan’s bed, but everyone told me his house was huge. Surely they have a guest room. Why am I in his room? I turn around and head back to the bed only to have a shock as Logan is stood on the other side of the room. I’m not sure when he came in, I didn’t hear him at all. He is just staring at me but I can see him taking in my appearance. I must look like a right mess. I start to feel self conscious and look down at my feet and try to tug the hem of the jersey down to cover more of my self. A low rumble makes me look up again. Even from over the other side of the room I can see Logan’s eyes have turned golden. He takes a step toward me and then seems to rethink it and steps back, so he is leaning on the closed door.

“I think its time we talked about a few things.” His voice has that husky edge to it that I like so much.

“Ok, um could you maybe find out if anyone has any clothes I could wear, or where mine are first please?” I ask him and a small smirk appears on his face. It’s that look that has girls falling all over him.

“No.” His answer is simple and to the point.

“Ok fine I’ll go and find someone myself” I say it a little more harshly than I meant to, but really it wasn’t that much of a big thing to ask of him. I walk over to him expecting him to move from the doorway. His eyes never leave me as I walk across the room.

“No” he says again and as I reach around him to the door handle, he slides his arm around my waist and turns me so that my back is held securely to his broad chest.

I can feel my heart beat speed up.

  “Why?” I ask quietly.

He leans his head down and pushes his face into my neck. He places a few kisses there and then makes his way to my ear to whisper his answer.

“I like you wearing my clothes....”
