Hound
Page 13
Bulldog laughed. “That you Deke?”
Deke waved his hand at his men to step back. Then he waved them again, for them to step all the way out.
Hound squinted his eyes. He still couldn’t see him well enough. What was so alarming about...His eyes rounded. “Well, fuck me,” he groused.
“What is it?” Derick took a step his gun raised.
Hound clamped his hand down on his wrist. “The man is wired to kingdom come.”
Derick took a step back.
“What?” Bull dog yelled. “No one wants to come and greet me? Well. damn. I thought I was loved!”
Deke waved everyone back further as they all disappeared around the side of the large building.
Hound wondered what the fuck to do now. If he got inside somehow. All the club and families were in saferooms, but to have a madman wandering around literally ready to blow? He let out a breath. Maybe it was time to call in S.W.A.T. He reached for his phone. Fuck, he’d lost it earlier today.
Derick looked at him and whispered, “He has to be stopped.” He reached into his vest and took out the wickedest knife Hound had ever seen.
Hound shook his head. “If something happens to you, Sara will never forgive me.”
Derick tilted his head at him. “And if you are taken out? You think that will be any better?”
Bulldog started yelling again, “FEE FI FO FUM...”
Hound sighed. “He is fucking crazy.” He turned to Derick.
There was no Derick next to him.
“God dammit!” he exclaimed. The damn man just would not stay put. He briefly wondered if the stubbornness was Moore or Bassettee. Either way, it could get him killed.
“Well? I guess I will just have to get inside and do my own meet and greet, so to speak!” Bulldog yelled.
Hound shook his head. It was sad. The man really thought he could just show up after trying to kill his own family, after all he’d done and talk like he was just visiting? Wearing a dammed C-4 vest no less. Hound looked around. So where did—he spotted Derick coming around the back side of the Hummer. “Fuck...”
Hound knew he had to help him as a diversion so...he stepped out.
Bulldog squinted at him as he paused. “That you little brother?”
Hound winced a bit and really wished he wouldn’t call him that. This was hard enough as it was. He stepped closer. Shit. If his Ma were here—he refused to think of that. “Yeah, Bulldog it’s me.”
“So you were the only Moore here to welcome me,” Bulldog stated as his eye, his one good eye looked clear and rational.
“Yeah, I suppose so.” Hound noted he wore no eye patch on the bad eye and it truly did make him look ghoulish.
“Well, you were just a kid when I left. But hot damn, look at you now. You got grown.”
“Yeah Harry, I’m grown.”
“You got a woman now?”
Hound did not want to play family reunion with a crazy killer who just hurt his woman this morning. “Yeah, the one you decked this morning.” He growled.
Bulldog pulled his head back. “She was yours? Well, fuck.”
“Yeah fuck. You hit my woman.”
Bulldog shrugged. “She’ll get over it.”
“You mean like Reva?” Hound asked. This should get his attention and keep it there for a minute or two.
Bulldog’s eye gleamed at him. “You see this?” he asked as he pointed to his empty eye socket. “They took that from me.” He raised a hand up and showed three fingers. “They took my fingers too. Then...” His voice fell away.
Hound saw Derick behind him but he refused to look at him directly so Bulldog wouldn’t catch on. “Why did they do that?”
Bulldog looked enraged again. “Because of THIS MC and because of her! They gave me over to the most ruthless organization in the fucking world! I was their lackey for a fuck of a long time. And all I wanted was to come home and clean house. They all betrayed me!”
Hound knew better than to engage but he just couldn’t stomach this whole fucking thing. “So you come here to hurt women and children too?”
Bulldog stared at him then he laughed. “Collateral damage, Duggan.”
“Seems to me you aren’t in your right fucking mind!” Hound called back.
“If I ain’t, it was them that done it.”
“They had to! You gave them no choice.”
Suddenly, a gleam came into bulldog’s eye.
Hound stared at him. What the fuck?
As it can be with people that are insane, they can be extremely crafty. Bulldog flipped around.
Derick was no more than five feet away.
Bulldog jerked his head back when he recognized the man. “Razor?”
Derick nodded.
“What the fuck you doing here?” Bulldog asked.
“I got family here,” was all he said.
“Family? But back in that hole, you said you had none.”
Hound stepped closer and eyed Derick. He couldn’t see the knife but he knew it was there.
“I got lots of family, dad.”
Bulldog looked like someone just kicked him in the gut, he looked stunned. “What’d you say boy?”
“I said, that you’re my dad. “
Blinking, Bulldog stared at him. “Well, fuck a duck. I see those Moore’s eyes now. Why the fuck didn’t I know?”
Derick shook his head in disgust. “Cause you are too into yourself. You were too fired with rage and revenge to see your own son right in front of you.”
Hound looked around as he wondered where all the men were. Then he spotted a few. Some on the roof but at the far corner away from that vest, some at the far corner of the lot, some... he looked behind him. Yeah, some there too.
“Well, god damn! You are good. You fooled me! Maybe you are my kid after all.” He tilted his head back and laughed.
Derick waited until the maniacal laughter slowed then he asked, “So are you going to take that vest off and talk to me?”
Hound realized that the man did not want to kill his own father, just like he did not want to be the one to kill his own brother.
Bulldog suddenly halted and his humor halted. He looked dead serious suddenly. “I wish I could boy, but you know they’ll kill me.”
“They didn’t before, old man,” Derick replied.
“Well, these Sin’s are bastards.” He chuckled a bit at his own pun. “They’ll set me to the tribunal and they will kill me.”
Derick stared at him.
Bulldog stilled and stared back at him. “Well, fuck. You were gonna kill me weren’t you?” He raised his hand and in that three fingered hand was the remote. “I gotta do this. They all need to pay. You know this. I told you all about it.” Then realization dawned in his one good eye. “Then again, I told you a lot when we were in that shithole.”
“Yeah, old man. You fucking made me an orphan.”
Bulldog shook his head. “It’s the disloyalty I hate. People stabbing you in the back and all, and family at that.” His good eye gleamed now. “That what you were doing? Sneakin’ up on me to shove that blade I know you got...Into my fucking back?”
Hound knew this wasn’t going well. He wondered if he could actually...He raised his .45 and aimed at Bulldog’s big head. Fuck, this is your brother, man. He flinched a bit then re-aimed.
“I got an idea.” Bull dog snickered. “I am gonna take you up with me! That’s what I’ll do, fancy that, eh kid? Me and you traveling to hell together.”
Derick raised his knife. It and his dark blue eyes gleamed in the light of the afternoon sun. “Meet ya there Pops.”
Suddenly, a shot rang out.
Hound jumped and nearly let off his own shot.
Derick stared at his dad.
Bulldog looked stunned as he dropped the remote. It hit the asphalt with a hard klunk.
“Run Derick!” Hound shouted as he backed away swiftly. That C-4 could still blow and they would all be dead.
Bulldog had small hole in h
is forehead as a drip of blood ran down his nose and past his mouth. Then his large body pitched forward.
Derick had taken off.
A huge pop sounded when the big man and his vest hit the ground.
Hound did not stay to hear anything else ‒ as blast hit him as he was running like his ass was on fire ‒ knocking him down to the grass at the edge of the lot.
Metal flew everywhere as a roar sounded and the wind from it rushed over the top of his body. He just covered his head and prayed for the best.
Smoke billowed out and debris was still flying around as all the noise finally died down after a minute or two.
Hound raised his head up and spit out the grass in his mouth and when he did, he spotted a man walking towards the lot from the tree line. He squinted hard. “Who—the fuck—is that?” His words came out like gasping breaths.
Coming closer with a powerful stride, the man slowed as he drew near to the destruction at the front of the Sin’s building.
Deke and the men all came from the other side of the carnage. Smoke billowed out and covered some of the men. They coughed and waved their hands at the stink of rubber, metal and probably flesh lingering in the thick air.
Hound finally got up on his feet, though he swayed a bit. He tried to take a step but stumbled to his knees. He shook the cobwebs away. Then got up again.
When he made it closer to the blast site, he saw Deke staring at the man with the high powered rifle.
“Well fuck,” Bones swore from next to Deke as all the men came forward now. “I don’t even fucking know what to say.” He too, stared at the man.
Deke glanced over at his dad then back at the man.
The tall stranger stepped a bit closer and swung his high powered rifle over his shoulder. “See,” he finally spoke and his voice had this quiet, low but gravely tone in it. “I have a phone and it is for just one person to call me. Just one in the whole fucking world. And yesterday, it rang.”
Hound moved closer and stared around then up at the man.
Silver hair and wide shouldered. The rifle glinted under the noonday sun. It was a state of the art weapon and the man himself stood like some kind of soldier. Calm and collected.
Derick then showed up from the far side of the building.
Hound breathed a sigh of relief at seeing him in one piece though he had ash smeared on his cheek and blood coming from his lip.
“Cricket,” Deke spoke.
The man nodded. “Tell her she’s safe and always will be.” He stared at Deke with those intense eyes for another few seconds then he gave a short nod. He turned and walked away.
The men all watched him in total silence as he went all the way across the lot and disappeared into the trees.
“Well, fuck!” Bones grinned. “I never would have...” He stopped speaking and shook his head.
Hound moved closer and looked Deke in the eye. “Was that...?”
Deke nodded. “Bane. And of course, we never knew he was even fucking here.” Then he seemed to snap to it and looked around. “Men! Recon and see if anyone got hurt! East, west and south corners!”
The men all scrambled to different directions.
Gator and Reva came around from the back.
Reva gasped at the huge hole in the side of the building and the hot metal that was smoking everywhere. Her shaky hands came up to cover her mouth.
Deke walked over to the somber looking couple. “It’s done. There will be no more family visits with Harry.”
Reva had tears running down her cheeks as she nodded.
Gator tucked her to his side and steered her away.
Hound then snapped to it as he too followed. He had a wife to take care of. He intended to help her in all ways a man could help his woman. He looked forward to her mouthing off at him for even being out here in the first damn place. Then he would use his Moore charm and...
Hound suddenly realized that he had just looked death in the eye and it had said,
Make the best of life fucker cause someday, I’ll be here.
