“What was that?” Sophia asked the room.

  Sean said. “Come here, please.”

Sophia grabbed a towel, wiped her hands, and approached him. “What’s up?”

“We installed Kilo’s door. So he doesn’t scare you, I’ve put bells on the frame. They don’t ring when he goes outside. Only when he comes in. Kilo, come,” Sean said. Everyone watched as Kilo opened the door three times before he came in the fourth time.

“It’s a warning system. He’s letting me know he’s coming in, so I won’t freak if I turn around and see him standing there?”

“Exactly. I got the idea after what you said he did at the office.”

“Why don’t we get something to drink. The pies just went in the oven and we’re almost done with the cleanup. We can set out snacks and have a nice break.” She turned and went back to the kitchen, trusting everyone would follow her.

Everyone quickly helped with the last of the clean-up. Susan and Ginny gathered cups and glasses for everyone while Neil and Randy pulled out trays of snacks they had already planned for the evening. Ginny poured the coffee while Susan poured the other beverages.

Everyone settled in the living room. The kids had gone back downstairs, leaving the adults alone. Kilo played with his chew toy off in the corner. As they all relaxed and started discussing the results of being in the kitchen, Sophia looked around and sigh. She realized that almost two months ago, when she’d arrived in Iowa, she hadn’t known anyone, or had any friends. As she looked around now, she realized her life was full. She looked at Sean and sighed.

“Thank you for being here. I’ve missed you.”

“I missed you too.” He smiled and with his arm around her shoulders, brought her in for a kiss. They broke off when they realized the room was silent. Sophia refused to be embarrassed about being caught kissing Sean in her own house.

Sean stood, he stretched then dropped to one knee in front of Sophia. She stared at him in shock. She wondered what the hell he was doing. “I know it’s early, I know we have a lot to work out. I don’t have your ring with me.” He said. “I do have one for you. I left it at home. I love you, Sophia Swanson, I love your courage, your strength, your integrity, I love you. Will you marry me?”

“Yes!” Sophia said. The room around them burst in applause. “I know we have a lot to work out, yes, I’ll marry you.” Sean stood, and they kissed until the room rang with congratulations. After they broke apart, she roared with laughter at the room, then looked at Sean. She held up her left hand and laughed. “I think we better wait for the ring until the swelling in my hand goes down, and the cast comes off.”

“Deal.” Sean leaned down and kissed her again.

  Acknowledgments

First and foremost, I’d like to thank Samantha A. Cole for giving me the opportunity to write in your world. For a new author, this has been an enormous endeavor. Thank you for answering all my questions. You have done nothing but encourage me during this whole process. I hope to one day be as good as you. Thank you, Samantha.

I’d also like to thank my parents, Brian and Vickie Williams. My whole life, you have encouraged me to go after my dreams. When I had asked if you’d read one the many books I had written all those years ago, I could tell you were skeptical. Thank you for reading them, discussing them with me, and encouraging me to continue with this dream. I will be forever grateful to you as my parents. I love you.

To my daughter, Jensa Andrews, thank you for taking my calls when I have a plot problem. For reading my work and telling me what I should fix. Also, thank you for being my daughter and putting up with your mother’s craziness over the years. I love you.

I’d also like to think Erin Orin and Nicole Hawken from Salt & Sage Books. Your edits and encouraging words helped me immensely in the process of getting this book ready to publish. I look forward to continuing our working relationship in the future.

USA Today Bestselling Author and Award-Winning Author Samantha A. Cole is a retired police officer and paramedic. She's lived her entire life in the suburbs of New York City and is looking forward to becoming a snow-bird between New York and Florida someday. Her two fur-babies, Jinx and Bella, keep her company and remind their mom to take a break from writing every once in a while to go for a walk, which is the best way to deal with a stubborn case of writer’s block.

An avid reader since childhood, Samantha was often found with a book in hand and sometimes one in each. After being gifted with a stack of romance novels from her grandmother, her love affair with the genre began in her teens. Many years later, she discovered her love for writing stories was just as strong. Using her life experiences and training, she strives to find the perfect mix of suspense and romance for her readers to enjoy.

Her standalone novel, The Friar, won the silver medal in the 2017 Readers' Favorite Awards in the Contempo
rary Romance genre.

While the original planned stories for the Trident Security series have been completed, they have brought many opportunities for Samantha to spread her wings and bring her readers more characters and stories to love.
