Hyde and Seek

Mom admitted that she and Sarah had convinced Jake to have a traditional white gown ready to go. Though he did, he’d been adamant that it wouldn’t be needed.

  He’d been right.

“No more tastin’ bitter. You gave me sweet and bright, Piper. I’m gonna spend the rest of my life givin’ you the moon.”

When Jake jerked his chin, I dragged my eyes from him. Looking up, I saw the entire ceiling of the room was made of glass.

Thousands of stars twinkled brightly in the nighttime sky. The radiant full moon looked like it had been physically placed in the perfect position.

He might be a sex god, but even I know that’s outside of his capabilities.

  Maybe.

  “Love you, Jacoby.”

“‘Til the day I die, sweets.”

“If we can begin,” Kase started, shifting to stand in front of Jake and me.

Glancing to the side, I saw that his and Rhys’ outfits were similar to Jake’s, though their ties were gray.

“Totally on board with this, but will it be legit?” I whispered.

“I got ordained, Pipe,” Kase whispered back. “My gift to you. Well, that and a crazy, scary looking coffee maker. Look surprised when you open it.”

  I smiled. “Awesome.”

Kase looked up at everyone and began the ceremony. “Love is anarchy. It’s mayhem. You fight for it. Live for it. You hold tight and push through the ugly times, ‘cause without them, you wouldn’t fully appreciate the beauty. And that’s what Jake and Piper have. A love that they’ll work to grow over the lifetime I’m doubtless they’ll spend together.” Kase stopped to smile at Jake. “Jake’s been like a brother to me for years, so I’m gonna do him a solid and make this fast. He’s waited long enough for this day.” Kase handed him something.

“With this ring, I give you me.” Jake’s voice was barely above a whisper as he slid a beautiful platinum and diamond band on my finger.

I turned and took the ring Ray held out to me before looking back at Jake. “That’s all I’ve ever wanted.” I ran my fingertips quickly along his jaw. “With this ring, I give you me.” I slid the thick, platinum band on his finger.

Jake’s newly ringed hand went to my neck. “It’s only you.”

  “Jake, do you?” Kase asked.

  “I do.”

  “Piper, do you?”

My heart pounded in my throat as my mouth rushed to get out the words. “I do.”

“I ho’okahi kahi ke aloha,” Kase said in Hawaiian, smiling wide. “Be one in love, Mr. and Mrs. Jacoby and Piper Hyde. Not that you’ve ever needed prompting, but you may now kiss your bride.”

“Mine,” Jake growled as his head came down.

“Forever,” I whispered against his lips.

  Jake

  Perfection.

I’d thought it so many times. But nothin’, fuck, nothin’ was more perfect than hearin’ Piper become my wife.

  Mine.

I’d known from the very first time I saw her in the shop, lookin’ like a porn star librarian, that there was somethin’ more. Somethin’ about her that screamed to me. It grabbed me and pulled me to her, wrappin’ me in her, makin’ me feel like my world started and ended with her.

  It was only her.

And, as she stood next to me, so fuckin’ sexy I was fightin’ gettin’ hard in front of our friends and family, she gave me everythin’.

Lookin’ up at me like I was the only one there, like I was her dragon slayin’ prince, she was only herself.

It was all she’d ever been.

It was all she would be.

And that was perfection beyond anythin’ I could imagine.

  Piper

After four days in Vegas, most of which was spent in our room, Jake and I continued our honeymoon in Hawaii. We spent a week and a half in our secluded cabana, naked, or on our private beach, close to naked.

  And, occasionally, totally naked.

Like on our first night in Hawaii, when Jake stripped me down on a blanket in the sand and made love to me under a velvet sky.

Or in the ocean a few days later, when he grabbed my ass and lifted me so my legs could wrap around his hips. With the sun beating down, the clear water lapped around us as he fucked me hard.

  We should get a pool.

After two weeks away, Jake and I came back to work together.

Jake had fixed up the break room and replaced some of the equipment he’d broken. He didn’t do as much this time since we wouldn’t be in the building much longer. The garage and the house, which I still hadn’t returned to, had both been put on the market.

  Everyone needed a fresh start.

Jake decided to have a new Hyde built from the ground up. His wedding present to me was the connected bakery.

I was excited about the idea. I’d still do custom cakes, but the storefront would allow me to also sell fresh items daily.

Jake was excited about the door in his office that opened to my kitchen.

“So, wife, what’re your plans today?” he asked, looking down at me while his thumb stroked my jaw.

“I have some cakes to bake. Plus a few designs I have to sketch and send off to customers. And what’re your plans, husband?”

“I have some cars to customize. Plus a few designs I have to sketch and send off to customers. And, in between that, I have to find time to eat the hot baker that works near my office. Hopefully, I’ll get to fuck her up against some wall or bent over something.”

I clutched the sides of Jake’s t-shirt when a wave of desire hit me so hard that my knees nearly gave out.

Like most everything else, Jake didn’t miss it. His eyes heated as his voice lowered. “Fuck, I love my wife.”

“And I love you right back.”

I felt his hardness against me as he pulled me close. Opening his mouth to talk, he was interrupted by a crash.

A cute as a button, but super pissed off, redhead stormed past.

Followed, surprisingly, by an equally pissed off Kase. “Harlow, hold up.”

Two very nicely manicured middle fingers shot up over her head. “Fuck you, Kase!” she exclaimed as she slammed out of Hyde.

Kase followed after her, cursing to himself.

Jake raised an eyebrow. “Do I even wanna ask?”

“Probably. You guys are gossipy as hell. But I have no clue.”

“Fair enough.” Leaning down to my ear, Jake whispered, “I’m still hungry, wife.” Cupping my ass, he lifted me.

I wrapped my legs around his waist. “I know someone who makes a mean cupcake. Maybe if you’re lucky, you’ll get one, husband.”

“Hearin’ you call me that, sweets, I already know I’m lucky. I just plan on gettin’ luckier.”

“What’re you waiting for?” I kissed the underside of his jaw, his honeymoon grown beard rough against my lips.

“Not a damn thing, Piper. Not anymore.” His mouth moved, taking mine.

My lips parted to give him what he wanted. What he’d always wanted.

  Me.

  About the author:

Layla Frost has always been a rebel. A true badass.

Growing up, Layla used to hide under her blanket with a flashlight to read the Sweet Valley High books she pilfered from her older sister. It wasn’t long before she was reading hidden Harlequins during class at school. This snowballed into pulling all-nighters after the promise of “just one more chapter”.

Her love of reading, especially the romance genre, took root early and has grown immeasurably.

In between reading and writing, Layla spends her free time rocking out(at concerts, on the couch, in the car… Anywhere is a stage if you get into it enough), watching TV(the nerdier the better!), and being a foodie. Though she lives in NY(the state, not the city), she’s an avid Red Sox fan.
