“Thank you both,” Travis said. “A love like the one Lorna and I share is a blessing to find during a lifetime and you, Valerie and Philip, share the same kind of love. Don’t let it slip away.”
“Peach would suit you well for those bridesmaid dresses.” Lorna winked at Midge.
“You think? Then peach it is! I only have one question,” Midge said. “So where were you during the other three hundred and sixty four days of the year?”
“We must go.” Travis smiled.
“Oh sorry. Too many questions.” Midge waved. “Goodbye. Have a great honeymoon in the afterlife!
Travis wrapped his arms around Lorna. “See I told you things would work out.”
“Now that I didn’t get left behind, I don’t have any regrets.”
He kissed the tears from her cheeks and drew her close as he faced Valerie. “We’re ready.”
Valerie cleared her throat. “Travis and Lorna, Philip and I hereby release you from this plane of existence and send you into the light so you may be together on the other side for eternity.”
“Yeah,” Philip said, “we release you to the light and all that.”
Lorna linked her hands around Travis’s neck when he bent down to kiss her. They dissolved into mist and vanished into the night.
“Did they go into the light?” Philip asked, looking around. “Where the hell is the light anyway?”
“Look up,” Lorna’s voice fell down upon them.
They all looked into the sky. Two shooting stars flashed across its darkness and then combined as one.
“Wow, they really are together.” Philip took Valerie’s hand in his. “How amazing is that?”
