She made me feel things. It wasn’t just about the twitch in my very expensive underwear. “You are very young to have a degree in engineering. Most people have no idea what they want to do at such a young age. You and I might be built from the same cloth.” I was giving her a compliment and sometimes I believed the youth was wasted on the young.
“It’s true and some people have no direction. I know a few friends who decided to take a few months off to find themselves. I’m one of the lucky ones. I’ve known what I wanted to do from the moment I was old enough to put things together and take them apart with my bare hands. It’s one of the main reasons why I feel compelled to make old things new again.” Something was missing from her story. I would have to dig deeper to learn why she was so closed off.
“There has been a revolving door in this position. None of them were able to make it their own. I’m taking a risk, but I feel the risk is negligible.” I wanted her to know how important it was for me to have somebody willing to bend over backward. “I’m giving you a chance to flourish and there are a lot of people who would give anything to be in your position.”
“I’ve never shied away from stress. I thrive in an environment of creativity and exploration. I can’t promise to be here forever, but this is where I want to be right now.”
This was my chance to show her the position wasn’t just about answering phones and getting coffee. “Some of the greatest discoveries come from accidents. Where would we be if Alexander Graham Bell didn't invent the light bulb? We have advanced technologically by leaps and bounds over the years. There has been no stopping the juggernaut of creativity around the world.”
I considered myself a visionary and someone who thought outside the box. I surrounded myself with those who had similar thinking to glean from them new and interesting ways of looking at things. Roseanne was one of those freethinkers even if she didn’t know it.
Something had drawn her away from what was going to make her shine like a newly acquired diamond in the rough. It was going to be my job to polish her and to give her the luster of brilliance. I could see an inkling of a newborn baby about to take its first steps. I was going to be the proud papa. I’d been responsible for cultivating those with a modicum of confidence. They blossomed before my eyes, and to me, Roseanne was in their league.
“I would love to be in the same category as many of those who didn’t allow negative thinking in their lives. Had they listened to their peers, many great discoveries would have gone unnoticed.”
She was right there on the cusp of discovering something amazing about herself. I was going to take her in my hands and mold her like a piece of clay.
“I see something underneath the surface of all of this mistrust. Somebody hurt you and somehow you managed to stand up and dust yourself off. You remind me of a child falling off a bicycle and getting right back on. No offense, but you are resilient no matter what anybody else says.”
I saw her eyes move down with subtlety until she was staring at my crotch. I had no problem mixing business with pleasure when the opportunities arose.
Clara stood up in a huff. “I’m going to leave before I say something I’m going to regret. Do what you want and it’s not like I have any say in the ultimate decision. Wait… I do believe that is precisely the reason why you hired me. I might have to reconsider my continued employment with this company.” I had upset Clara and was going to have to make some kind of grand gesture to calm the troubled waters, but for now I let her walk out of the room.
“She’s one of the ones you’re going to have to prove yourself to,” I said quietly. “I have no doubt of your ability to win her over. If you can do that with me then you can do that with anyone.” I got up and sat on the edge of my desk. With her visual acuity, there was no doubt how she was watching the jerking presence of my manhood.
“I hope you’re not hiring me out of spite. I wouldn’t know it even if you were. I do appreciate the comments you made about Montana. You weren’t just saying it to make me think that we had something in common.” She could compartmentalize her feelings, but deep down they festered into something that was preventing her from moving on.
“I can’t say that I haven’t hired out of spite before. This is different. I do expect the same kind of hard work I get from everyone else. There might be some sleepless nights working in the office at all hours of the day and night. You don’t seem to be the type to run away from a challenge. I find challenges the only reason to get up in the morning.” The day I was no longer challenged was the day that I would allow them to pile the dirt over my body.
“The one thing I have learned in my short years is that there’s always something more to experience in life. I try to do things that make me afraid. We only get this one life and we may as well make the best of it.” She got up and my heart sank when her attire went back to where it was almost covering her knees.
“This position will be an experience to remember. You won’t recognize yourself when you finally decide to spread your wings on your own. Mrs. Wilson wasn’t kidding about this being a learning position. Your enthusiasm will only take you so far. It will be interesting how you deal with the frustration of the job.” I was going to be watching her closely and testing her to make sure she wasn’t going to allow anything to fall through the cracks.
“I will do what I can to live up to your lofty expectations. I don’t want you to feel you are wasting your time on a lost cause. My personal life will never interfere in the job.”
It was a man who had made her less likely to jump into the deep end without water wings.
Her confidence was a little worse for the wear, but an encouraging word would go a long way to bring back the sparkle in her eyes.
Chapter seven - Roseanne
It was my first week and I was at my desk looking over my empire with a critical eye for detail. I had noticed the luxurious surroundings when I came to interview, but this was my one chance during the day to see the impression others would get stepping into the front lines.
“I don’t believe you are going to last. I hope for his sake you measure up to his standards.” Mrs. Wilson was quite vocal and had no problem trying to demoralize me.
I didn’t give her the satisfaction of making any kind of comment. I instead completely ignored her and continued with my duties as they were set out. She stormed off. I heard the elevator announce an incoming visitor.
I had my hair in a ponytail showing off the long curve of my neck and exposing those in my presence to the sweetness of my perfume. Perception was every bit as important as any other aspect of this business.
Everything was for show, to lure visitors in with a pretty picture before getting an audience with the boss. The superficial lies were more than met the eye. Tom was an authentic eccentric billionaire with this business showing off his innovative style.
Thinking about him made me bounce back and forth on my feet. There was no chair, as he believed productivity was done with both feet planted firmly on the ground. It was definitely going to give my calf muscles a workout to remember.
Speaking of the man, the boss was strolling down the hallway adjusting his red power tie like it was some kind of noose around his neck. He stopped short of my desk and turned to place his two masculine hands right in front of me. I was under the spell of his temptation.
“It’s been a few days and I wanted to check in to see how you are faring. I want you to know the only reason why she’s being tough on you is that she wants you to develop a thick skin. Deep down, she admires you for taking a chance and doing something completely out of your comfort zone.” I was positive he was only placating me, but I was going to take a more active stance to impress Mrs. Wilson.
“I don’t mind constructive criticism. She’s not very shy about saying what is on her mind. As for the job, I find it tedious at times, but there are aspects that I never considered before applying. For the most part, people have been very understanding when I make silly mistakes. I always
learn from them.”
His eyes were boring into me and I felt like he had somehow found a way to see me naked in his mind’s eye. I crossed my hands over my chest, trying to prevent him from seeing the mounds of persuasion underneath. I had a bra on, but his infatuation with what I was wearing had me seeing myself wearing only a smile for his pleasure.
“My opinion of you is growing by the day. I saved millions and I have you to thank for it. You were able to see through the legalese of the contract from a new client. They were trying to pull one over on me and I almost fell for it.”
“I wouldn’t give me that much credit. I almost missed it.” I had read through the contract five times before I finally picked up on one single word that was going to change everything. “It’s a good thing I’m a little anal when it comes to documents written by lawyers. They are always trying to stick in some little fine print to make our lives more than a little frustrating.” My red blouse started sticking to my body with the little bit of perspiration caused by standing close to the object of my affection.
“I don’t usually give false praise for anything. You should have seen the look in their eyes when I caught them trying to make me look like a fool. They think just because I’m a little younger in this business that I’m some kind of doormat. I’m always jumping through hoops. It does get a little tiring.” The lines on his face showed how he was trying to hold up to the scrutiny of others.
“I know a lot is riding on this promotional tour. The car has barely been off the assembly line and already it’s getting rave reviews. I hope it wasn’t from greasing the palms of those looking to get their hand in your pocket.” My mouth was dry and it felt like I had a mouthful of cotton.
I had no idea how I was continuing this conversation without stumbling over my words. I was basically at the lowest point on the totem pole of this business. I was the first line of defense, but I was learning the position was more intense than I was led to believe. I enjoyed doing something new, and I really enjoyed succeeding.
“Speaking of those with their hand in my pocket. I have a dog-and-pony show to go to tonight to press the flesh with those of influence. The press was only one hurdle and the rest will come from word of mouth. I'm going to arrive in style in the very car that has their tongues dragging on the floor. I would very much like for you to join me.”
It was a good thing I wasn’t drinking coffee or I would have sputtered it all over him. “I don’t think it would be appropriate for me to fraternize with the boss. I’m already on shaky ground with Mrs. Wilson. I don’t want to do anything to make things worse.”
He laughed with his hands on his belly to show me how stupid my response really was. “I may have misspoken. I didn’t mean it as an invitation. It’s a mandatory function and I would like you to mingle amongst the guests to get their first-hand opinion. I’m not going to take no for an answer. Don’t say you have nothing to wear. I can remedy that by sending you something eye-catching. I’ve always been a pretty good judge when it comes to sizes. Leave it to me. You won’t have to lift a finger.”
I wanted to tell him this wasn’t in my job description, but how could I, when he was being so generous. “I doubt I will fit in, but I will do my best to get some unbiased opinions.” They would tell him what he wanted to hear, but their guard would lower when they saw me in a form-fitting dress.
“You may not know this, but you have a certain effect on the opposite sex. I doubt seriously you recognize how some in this very office have been eye-fucking you. If at any time you feel uncomfortable, come to me and I will make sure the person responsible is handled.”
I wasn’t about making trouble and I was trying to keep my head down without making any unnecessary waves with the rest of the staff. Instead of ratting anyone out, I just said, “It’s all part of office politics. I have to learn to navigate the pitfalls. There is always something about any job which doesn’t exactly fit like a glove. I don’t consider myself personable, but I do know how to fake it to make it.” I gave him one of my most brilliant smiles.
He was biting his bottom lip, staring at the way that I was popping out my chest with one long drawn out breath to get his attention. I was purposely taking in the oxygen in the room expanding my chest to make it a focal point. The awkward silence was only penetrated by his inability to articulate what he was feeling.
“The people… the people… at this party are never going to know what hits them. You’re not the same vapid blonde bimbo who usually accompanies me to these things. I always fall for the wrong girl. One look and I’m pretty much powerless to resist the natural curves of their bodies.” He did seem like he would be more comfortable with someone who had very little to say.
“You should never be afraid of a woman with their own opinions. I see you as the kinda guy who always wants to be the center of attention. You might not mean to, but deep down you want their admiration and applause for a job well done.” I felt like I was getting to know him on a different level than those who claimed to have his best interests at heart.
“You are nothing like those who are going to be attending.” He shook his head. “I want to see things through your eyes, to live vicariously at the wonder and splendor of all the pomp and circumstance. I will pick you up at exactly seven p.m. I would suggest dinner first, but there will be plenty to choose from at the party.” I was the one that arranged for the catering and knew exactly what was going to be on the menu to tempt my palate.
“I still think I’m not exactly the right person for this.” I wasn’t trying to put myself down, but this was definitely going to be something of a departure from how I lived my life.
“Don’t think of this as anything more than a test. Your duties are always changing whenever the mood strikes me. I’m curious to see how you’re going to handle the inane chatter of those who think they’re better than everybody else.”
I didn’t know what he was trying to do, but it felt like I was some kind of experiment underneath the microscope. Throwing me to the wolves was making me wonder if I was some kind of pet project.
“You make them sound like they are some kind of alien race. They will pounce on me because I am the weakest of the herd. They will tear me apart like cannibals.”
“You are the kind of girl… woman who knows how to adapt. I have no doubt this is going to be your coming out party. Don’t be scared, and I won’t be too far away.”
I suddenly imagined him behind me nuzzling the back of my neck and lifting my black leather skirt with his two hands firmly on the hem.
“Your observations of me are seriously misguided. I implore you to take somebody else with you to this party. I don’t know how to make idle chitchat. I can’t just nod and jump into a conversation without knowing the context.”
I could feel the phantom of his hands grabbing my sensitive flesh with his fingers creeping underneath the crotch of my panties.
“I see the foundation of someone growing out of her shell,” he crooned. “You are still in the cocoon of indecision ready to expand your wings and become a beautiful butterfly. I want to give you the chance to fly. You need only to trust me when I give you the necessary nudge in the right direction.”
My fantasy was blurring the lines between what was real and what wasn’t.
“I’m still a baby bird and you expect me to fly without even thinking about it. I don’t know what you see in me, but it’s quite apparent, you are blind to the reality.”
I could see his features exploding with pleasure when he plunged deeply into the depths of my sex. It felt like it was really happening.
“You look a little flushed. I’m going to force you to do this. It’s the only way you are going to learn that personal interaction is every bit as important in this business as anything else.”
I was feeling faint and I had to plant my elbows on the table to prevent my legs from giving out. “I’m just thinking about how you expect this evening to go.” The evening was barely a blip on my radar.
&
nbsp; I was more concerned by how these flashes of carnal delight were becoming more frequent by the second. The pressure against the lips of my hole felt like the real thing. Looking at him only confirmed how desperate I was to play a little bit of mattress tag.
“I expect you to be my eyes and ears. To give me any kind of heads up to how somebody is going to try to derail this latest venture. I want you to enjoy yourself, but always know that they are thinking about ways to stab me in the back. They will see you as a means to an end and try to get you to give them some dirt on me. I’m going to tell you exactly what to say in my effort to misdirect.”
“I will do what I can to please you.”
It was dangerous having him this close to me with my clothes feeling like they were burning right off my body.
“You’re putting way too much pressure on yourself. Tonight is about business, but you can take the time to expand your horizons.”
I felt a trickle of my juices starting to run down the left side of my leg. The fantasy was a waking dream.
“I don’t have the strength you think I do. I will do this because it’s important to you.”
I was biting my tongue, feeling the pressure building and knowing an imminent orgasm was coming whether I wanted it to or not.
I didn’t need any extra stimulation. It would be the first time something like this had happened because of the way that he was talking in a seductive tone. He didn’t mean to render me speechless. I had to get him to leave before he recognized the signs. My whole body was vibrating with sexual energy.
“There’s more strength deep down than you realize.” He pressed his finger between my cleavage to touch my heart. The very touch was enough to ignite feelings of immense pleasure. “I’m making you tap into a reserve that you didn’t even know you had.”
“I’ve taken some chances in my life, but mostly they blow up in my face. I don’t want the same thing to happen.”
