“You’re definitely going to fit in around here. The only time I want to see you at your desk is when you are writing the story. The world is your oyster. Never take no for an answer and always come out swinging.” He was once again resorting to his favorite pastime of dispensing platitudes in the form of advice.
“This is only the beginning.” Her mother was still in her head. She always had this way of making a good day bad.
The taxi driver on her way to the meeting didn’t speak English and she had to run the remaining ten blocks to the mayor’s office. It didn’t matter. She had to wait another hour before being given an audience with the mayor’s aide. The mayor was apparently too busy to take the meeting and most likely avoiding the possibility of making a slip of the tongue.
She was given a prepared press release. It was political jargon and didn’t mean a damn thing. She tried to protest and realized the only way she was going to get the true story was from the horse’s mouth. It wasn’t going to be easy, but she had to find a way to ambush Mayor Tompkins in a compromising position. It wasn’t going to happen without some strategy and planning.
She did manage to befriend the receptionist and cultivated a possible ally to be used when the time was right. They spoke frankly, and she’d easily gotten her talking about her life. She had a boyfriend who had stolen everything, leaving her with nothing but the clothes on her back. It meant she was susceptible to bribery. It was something to think about.
The smug look on the mayor’s aide’s face was galling and made her that much more determined to strike while the iron was hot. She made plans with his secretary to go out for coffee in the morning. Yvette’s idea was to find out if there was any animosity which she could capitalize on with the possibility of financial gain.
The day was harrowing, and she had sprained her ankle getting her shoe caught in a sewer grate. The pain was manageable with a couple of aspirin, though she was ready for a stiff one and not necessarily a drink. She had one toy with multiple settings calling her name.
It was well after 7:00 PM when she was on her way back to her penthouse to slip into something a little more comfortable. The brothers Slim had been absent and she was starting to wonder if it had been something she’d said.
Chapter Five
Adam was jogging briskly to get his hand between the elevator doors before they had the chance to close. He had just finished coming back from the gym and was pleasantly surprised to find Yvette in the enclosed space with him.
“You look like you have had a day from hell. I would hope the bright spot would be seeing me again.” He was using his charm and enjoying the way her mouth started to smile despite how her day had gone.
Yvette gazed at Adam through her mirrored sunglasses. The t-shirt had the logo of a local band stenciled across the front. She had seen the posters plastered on one telephone pole or another. They were apparently the next up and coming thing.
“You’re not full of yourself or anything. I will say two weeks is way too long not to speak to either one of you. I don’t want you to think you came on too strong. I do like the attention. You have no idea what you have done to my ego by stroking it with your praise and admiration.” She could undress him with her eyes without him knowing about it. His shirt was practically see-through and those tight jeans did very little to hide his double blessing.
“I’ll tell you a secret in confidence. I might seem arrogant, but it’s the furthest thing from the truth. I find you very attractive and I would love the opportunity to get to know you better. This time, I want it to be just the two of us in a private setting with candlelight and maybe someone playing the violin.” He was asking her to dinner without forming it into a question.
“I’m sure you know some of the hot spots in the area. It might be nice to try and broaden my horizons.” She wasn’t letting him off that easy. He was going to have to literally say the words with the possibility of rejection on her crimson lips.
“You have no idea how many times that has worked on other women. I do believe I have met my match. I would like to formally invite you to join me for dinner at a restaurant of my choosing. After, I have an engagement with The Posse. I play electric guitar for the local band making rave reviews.” He was wearing the t-shirt to give the band some free publicity. He had invested in their success and was managing their career behind the scenes.
“I admit to being a little curious about them. I will gladly accept your invitation, but are you sure we shouldn’t invite Blake along for the ride?” She liked them both and found her excitement level rising by leaps and bounds when they were together.
“Don’t get me wrong, I love my brother, but sometimes we need to do our own thing separate from each other. It reminds us that we are independent and don’t always have to be locked at the hip. We see enough of each other at the office and then at home.” He could tell she was a dish best served piping hot. A little wining and dining would go a long way to leaving her panties lying on his bedroom floor.
“I think I can understand that.” She was curious to learn more.
“Tell me about your day. It might make you feel better getting it off your chest.” This was one of many tricks to get women to see him as a potential partner in bed.
“This day couldn’t have gone worse. I wish I had the time to get a massage to get these knots out of my shoulders.” This wasn’t an invitation, but she wasn’t exactly pushing him away when his hands found their way to her shoulders.
“I’ve always been told I have the magic touch. I’m not sure that translates to a massage, but there’s only one way to find out.” His sexual innuendo was met with a cocked eyebrow and thoughts of how his fingers could do more than make her feel relaxed.
“I don’t even have the words. Men should take lessons from you in how to seduce a woman. It’s always the little things that make the best impression.” She couldn’t remember which brother had done this already and then it dawned on her it’d been Blake.
“I would love to find each and every one of your erogenous zones. It would be my pleasure to leave you spent and wanting more. You never want to show your whole hand. There always has to be something up your sleeve.” He was well aware of the tantric love and well on his way to getting her to shed her ideas of what sexual exploration was all about.
The elevator door opened on her floor. She walked casually down the hallway with the sound of footsteps behind her. She smiled thinking about the possibilities and how easy it would be to throw good sense out the window.
“You have a way of making me feel comfortable and I think you know it. I’m worried that I might be just another potential conquest on your bedpost. Would you even respect me in the morning if I were to give in so easily?” She wanted to make him work for it but felt this undeniable attraction.
“I don’t mean to brag, but I’m very good. I’m not what you would call a selfish lover. It might surprise you to learn how I’d gotten my experience from an older woman. I was only sixteen and she was in her forties. I know from personal experience how to give a woman what she really wants with my tongue.” He saw her stumble and realized his words were having the desired effect.
“You really don’t have a filter. A little modesty goes a long way, but I don’t think the word is even in your vocabulary.” She opened the door and put down her briefcase, bending over at the waist.
Seeing her skirt rise a few inches made his temperature skyrocket. His loins ached for the chance to be with her. He was tempted to grab her hips, but he felt it was necessary to show some kind of restraint.
Yvette felt a little brazen and pushed back to feel the heated column of his flesh pressed into the contours of her ass cheeks. She heard his gasp of unintentional arousal and was pleased she could get this reaction from him. His response fueled her to be a little impulsive.
“I hope you’re doing that on purpose. It doesn’t seem like something you would do. There is a wild animal inside you waiting for someone to come around with a
key to unlock the cage. I have the key in the form of the pointed end of my tongue.” He was salivating for the chance to take her on a wild ride not to be forgotten.
“I might be a little bit dangerous without even knowing it. The feelings that come over me are foreign. I have no idea how to express myself physically. I have nothing to reference what is happening between us. I’ve only been with one man.” Her confession came from the friction of his cock through the fabric of her skirt.
“You deserve to know all the pleasures of the flesh. I can be your guide on this journey. It won’t take much to show you the woman underneath. She’s been there all the time, but your ex-husband made you feel it was necessary to close the door and throw away the key. It’s going to take a major commitment on your part. We can start right now.” He was anxious and found his hands grabbing her hips to give her something more to think about.
She recalled her mother’s voice echoing in her head. She cringed at the knowledge of her mother looking at her with condemnation. She would never condone sex before marriage.
“I’m going to ask politely for you to leave. I will go out with you tomorrow night and you never know how the night is going to unfold.” She was giving him hope while at the same time dashing any possibility of them playing a game of mattress tag.
“You get me all hot and bothered and you send me home to take care of it on my own. The day you know what you want is the day when there is going to be a ticker tape parade in your honor. It’s a little frustrating to be given the green light and then come to an abrupt halt.” He felt like a sports car with the engine revving and ready to go from 0 to 60mph in five seconds.
“I apologize, but I’ve already gone too far. By all means, take matters into your own hands. I’m sure you’ve done it more times than you can count.” She had her hand on his chest and was motioning him backwards toward the door.
“I would really like the chance to change your mind about me. Tomorrow night doesn’t come quick enough for me. I don’t mind a little teasing and it’s all a part of the game. You can still tell me to stay and you won’t have to do much convincing.” He felt the door behind him and how quick she was at giving him the bum’s rush.
“I’m going to have a glass of wine and slip into a hot bath to loosen my muscles.” She was practically painting him an obscene picture.
“I’m sure there are spots you won’t be able to reach without some help.” He was drawing a line in the sand and daring her to cross it.
“I will make out fine on my own.” She couldn’t believe how close she was to having sex with another man besides her ex-husband.
“This is your last chance to do something reckless. The window is closing quickly on this opportunity.” He felt her finger on his lips and watched the red lacquered nail with intense interest.
“You do drive a hard bargain, but cooler heads are going to prevail for tonight.” She opened the door and felt an instant moment of regret when it closed in his face.
She grabbed the bottle of wine from the fridge on her way to the bathroom. Pieces of her clothes were dropping in a trail until she was naked as the day she was born. The steaming water filled up quickly and she dropped seamlessly into the scalding contents with a sigh of resignation.
Lighting a candle made it more romantic, and she was able to close her eyes and envision all the dirty things she wanted to do to Adam. Her fingers went under the water and before long, she was lifting herself to higher levels of excitement. She temporarily satiated her need with her fingers soaked in the sticky dew. There was still enough clinging to the lips of her sex.
She had somehow muffled her cries of ecstasy by placing her hand over her mouth at the moment of her sexual exclamation. It took less than ten minutes before her toes were pointing at the ceiling with her legs spread into a ‘V’ formation. Her whole body was tuned up. Playing things solo was a little disappointing.
Yvette thought getting one out of the chamber was the answer, yet it only reminded her of what she had turned down. She was kicking herself.
She climbed out of the bath after an hour on shaky legs. She swayed to unseen music in her head on the way down the hall before collapsing onto the bed. She could only hope for the kind of wet dreams that would wake her up with a smile on her face.
Chapter Six
Yvette found herself tossing and turning most of the night. She could only hope there would be another chance to show Adam how she felt about him. It could’ve had something to do with the basic Catholic decency raising its ugly head. It could have also been some misplaced guilt over how this would affect Adam’s relationship with his brother.
She was in the mood to burn off some of the excess energy from last night. What she had done in the bathtub had barely scratched the surface. There was another outlet, but it wasn’t as satisfying as climbing to new heights of pleasure. She had a new life and she hardly recognized the reflection looking back at her in the mirror.
The signs of Adam’s arousal weren’t lost on her. The glazed look in his eyes and the way his jeans filled out nicely had made it almost impossible to push him out the door. It took some amazing willpower not to drop to her knees in worship of his love muscle. It would’ve been so satisfying to claim her independence by sleeping with another man.
She put on a pair of black jogging pants and matching sports bra. It was still early at 6:00 AM with only the crack of dawn on the horizon. There were still going to be some having the same idea she did, but she could avoid the rush.
Pounding the pavement with her purple Nikes blinking incessantly was a good way to keep her mind off of the sexual tension in the air. She wasn’t expecting to see a familiar sight jogging right beside her in a skimpy pair of blue shorts.
“It’s nice to finally see you again on this crisp December morning. I've been debating on whether or not to contact you. I don’t know how many times I had the phone in my hand or walked by your door about to knock to see if you were home.” Blake wasn’t expecting to see her early in the morning but felt their meeting like this was kismet.
“I would say you ambushed me, but I don’t feel you could be manipulative. This would be considered premeditated had it been Adam. You are both very different. I hope you don’t take it as an insult.” She was rather impressed by how easily he matched her long strides. Their pace was quick, and it was almost like they were pushing each other to the limit.
“I love my brother dearly, but he can be rather pushy. Some girls like that and others find it in distaste. I’ve seen him in the club wearing his shirt open and the prerequisite gold chain swinging from his neck. It’s a little cheesy in my opinion, but I can’t tell him that without the risk of getting into a spirited debate on the subject.” Blake felt it was easy to talk to her. It was casual and made him feel like they had known each other for years.
“He’s not the type of guy I would normally find myself gravitating toward. To be perfectly honest, you are more my type. You are down to earth, but you still have the ability to get my pulse racing. I hope I didn’t shock you.” She didn’t want to do anything to scare him off.
“It’s very refreshing to know how you feel about me. You don’t put on airs and I don’t have to read between the lines. I have coffee brewing back at my place. Don’t worry; Adam won’t be getting out of bed until the afternoon. He has a tendency to go out dancing and partying like he is still twenty-one.” Blake was ready to settle down and try something different.
“I would love to have a cup of coffee with you.” Blake wasn’t as brazen in his approach, but she still felt something more than friendship.
They sat there looking at each other over the rim of their cups. The coffee was strong with both of them taking it with two sugars and one cream. It was just another thing they had in common including their love of art.
Yvette found herself walking over to the one piece that made her feel something. She wanted to break free of the cocoon courtesy of her mother sheltering her from life from an early a
ge.
“I find myself weak in the knees. What I feel for the both of you is complicated and I really don’t know what to do. I would like to date the both of you to find out which one of you captures my attention most.” She was burning hot and cold. There was no way to justify the very thoughts of impropriety swirling around in her mind.
“You’re throwing down the gauntlet. I don’t mind some healthy competition. I don’t know how you feel about Adam. I really don’t want to go and tug at that thread. I would like the chance to win you over by doing it without any pretense. Let the best man win.” He wasn’t very happy about competing with his brother, knowing full well it very rarely went his way.
“I don’t want you to think you don’t have a chance. There’s no reason to change who you are because of your brother. A woman would be lucky to be with either one of you. How do you suppose Adam will feel about me dating the both of you?” She didn’t want to upset the balance between the brothers and cause a rift they couldn’t come back from.
“I would imagine he will find it amusing. He will think his chances of success are pretty much guaranteed. I’m not going to make it easy on him.” He had to level the playing field and felt the only way to do that was by being honest about his feelings.
“I’m glad to hear that. I don’t find the same fulfillment in conversation with your brother. He always fills the awkward silence with sexual innuendo. Do you even like me or is this a way to stick it to your brother? I think I deserve to know the answer.” She waited with bated breath to hear his response. She was hoping the answer would not make her realize it was a mistake to date both of them.
“I like you more than I want to admit. I’ve been off the market and I was through with dating altogether. The vapid airheads did nothing to stroke my ego, but I can’t say the same thing for Adam.” He watched for the chance of Adam eavesdropping on their conversation.
