Both men glared at Nepolai. A pitiful waste it was and I know without a doubt so much more could of came from her. Rylan clinched her eyebrow before turning her attention to Nepolai. Don’t you agree Nepolai? They asked. Houston understand why they were here. He thought this was probably what the father met by things would get ugly with her without him. They must’ve been trying to show that they can find him and Rylan and do his job for him.
Horrific Nepolai said. Rylan was getting anxious and didn’t know what they meant by she was a waste.
Thank you? She said under sure what most of that meant and why they knew who Nepolai was. Nepolai start stretching his fingers and popping his knuckles with his thumb. The board is hand into a fist. He was struggling to get angry struggling to keep his cool and for right now he had to unless they came after him and Rylan. Then I will give him the excuse he needed to beat there faces in.
Are you two friends of the family? Rylan asked. I’m not sure if I ever met you guys before. She said hoping their response would clear up a lot of confusion and anxiety.
Without answering her question they just stared at her like she had said something offensive. It made her even more wary of these men and wanted to get away from them as soon as possible. They left without saying a word almost knocking shoulders with Nepolai as they passed. This wasn’t good. Nepolai thought he realized that the father sending his hunters to meet with him face-to-face was a play to intimidate him but it wasn’t going to work. He knew now what is decision was. The father right that the Nepolai had issues feeling or caring for anyone for long time but that didn’t matter he was going to kill the father.
I think that’s the weirdest thing I ever experienced this whole year. Rylan said walking in front of Nepolai.
I agree. He said with his fist still clenched in a ball.
When José bites Madison and then we can head out. She said walking towards the front of the dying crowd.
Chapter 12
after slamming the front door Nepolai walked to the kitchen opened the fridge and pulled out a bottle water. He was becoming a little more conscious of the decisions he was making and taking a little break from the alcohol was one of those conscious decisions he made. Right now it seem like a good time to have that mind state. If the father was sending people to make sure he was doing a job he never agreed to. What would happen if he sent his hunters back to get Nepolai after he realized he didn’t follow through. He didn’t want to be to sauced up and unable to defend itself what the people around him. Things could get bad really fast he thought. Nepolai slammed the door in the fridge. He was still agitated and wanted to lash out on the first person he saw. Nora came in the kitchen she had been sitting in the living room reading. Of course Nora would be the person he lash out on. That would be the best idea he had. She kill me he thought.
Why are you slamming my furniture? She asked with her voice elevated higher than usual. You know the front door his glass right she said pointing out the kitchen.
Yeah I’m sorry is my mornings been. He pauses think holding the bottle to his lips before drinking. Hell. He said.
how she asked. And why are you wearing the suit I bought you? You told me that it made you look to soft.
I just got back from taking Rylan to a funeral. He said.
What funeral? We never go to those. She said
the poll I took the second to answer he knew Nora would be upset but if there was one person he was trying not to lie to it was’s Nora.
It was Madison’s. He said waiting waiting for her to come at his neck.
Madison? Madison she thought. That girl we a a few weeks back? She asked.
Yet that Madison. He said.
Why would you do such a thing? She said shaking her head. You never supposed to show up at victim’s funeral.
I’m sorry Rylan wanted me to go, and I said yes because she had no but it did take her. He said
Nora was wondering if he was getting a soft spot for this girl. And it seemed as though it probably wasn’t for the best.
Listen I know that you probably are starting to grow feelings for this girl but long and serious relationships like that don’t last with people like us and people who don’t eat. Trust me. She said looking at him. Her eyes were wide and her frown was faint. She was concerned about him.
I understand. Nepolai said taking another sip from the bottle.
Good. Nora started towards the living room.
Speaking of relationships what do you know about the father? Nepolai asked. Nora stopped. He wanted to get as much information as he could on him and seen as though the father knew who she was maybe she know something about him as well. She felt a sense of dread when she heard that name come out Nepolai’s mouth. She looked back at Nepolai before turning fully around. Her face was stiff class she has seen the only thing that was possibly terrified to her. Resentment started bubbling inside of her. She walked towards the island countertop and crossed her arms. You do know about the community right because they sure do know who me you and everybody I know for that matter. He asked.
How do you know about the father? She asked.
So you are aware of them right? He asked
I know that there scum why? She said.
When I was at Madison’s funeral to guys from the community showed up and... Nora put her hand up stopping Nepolai from saying another word.
Weight! How do you know the from the community? She asked
a couple days ago I met this girl named Leah at the bar she she seemed to know a lot about me and you. Nepolai enclosed the water bottle and sat it on the countertop. She told me that there was more of us out there.
Well she invited me to a dinner party and when I was on my way to meet the father the word these two guys guarding the door and I recognized his face.
Why did you come to me first? She asked. Nora rolled her eyes and ran her hands down the sides of her face.
I didn’t know I needed to tell you if I was invited to a party or not. What she said made me curious to find out more. I’ve been thinking this whole time we were the only ones who eight. Why did he tell me that there were other people out there like us?
Were not like them. She said defending herself as if they were the complete opposite. Sure the promise to take care of you provide and more importantly privacy and protection and all that crap but most of them are spineless cattle waiting to be slaughtered. Is 70% of your foundation is a week it’s just waiting to crumble. She said storming off into the living room. Nora poured herself some scotch to calm himself down. It’s been years since she’s heard the name the father in the community and just thinking about it makes her sick and want to drown out her history with him.
Nepolai was wondering what the beef was between them why was she so adamant about the community. Nepolai followed her into the living room and sat on the couch. She shook her head and drunk from the glass. Nora set in a chair across from him and crossed her legs. She sighed and held the glass in her head watching the alcohol switch side to side. He knew she wanted to say something so he waited and watched her stare at the glass knowing that if he just gave it a little bit of time she would let it out.
I used to be one of she said still watching her glass. It was before I took you in though. She let out a deep sigh. My father raised us in that mansion I assume the dinner was at. It was after our mother left them so my father said. I never believed that to be the case. It wasn’t like her to go anywhere without telling us. Nepolai wondered who she met by us. Did she have a brother or sister he thought. He was unsure and can’t remember a time or she ever mentioned that she did. I’ve heard things over the three months prior of us moving into that mansion. My parents were arguing a lot then and there were times where we heard him beat her and... She paused for a second her voice began to crack a little. We heard her mother’s cry Echo down the hallway almost every night. My brother was oblivious to what was really going on but maybe it was for the better. He was too little to understand much anyway. Brother?
Nepolai thought. She never told him about any siblings so it was a price to actually find out that she had a brother. Nepolai wondered if maybe they weren’t close anymore or maybe he was dead. Why else would she mention him. The night before he took us to that mansion I lost one of my dogs and thought I might have less than that in the car ride home. When I went to the garage I got in from the driver seat and seen wind all sitting in the back and when I reached for her I accidentally hit the switch that popped the trunk. I wasn’t supposed to be out and knew that my dad would find out if he came down and seen the trunk open so I hurried up and closed it but before I could I seen a piece of plastic hanging out the trunk and when I tried to push it back in I seen a woman’s hand sticking out of it. Tears fell down Nora’s face. She wiped him but it was useless. Nepolai grabbed the handkerchief from his sports coat and handed it to Nora. He was surprised at what he was saying, Nora crying he thought. It was something he thought he would never seen his life. I know it was her, my mother because of the bracelet that was on arrest. I remember my father getting it for their 10th anniversary. Nora was quiet for a moment wiping her face try and soaking up any remainder tears trying to fight their way back. He died a couple years later After joining the community he had a wicked thirst for power. he died when he learned that in order to become the father you must kill the acting father. Nora and crossed her legs and leaned forward. That’s why you need to stay away from the community and more importantly the father. Even though the majority of them a week that other 30% is still very much dangerous. Those are the ones the father keeps close to, his hunters.
Nepolai knew she was right he did look like he was more than capable of getting what he needed done but that didn’t scare Nepolai. From what he can tell Nora doesn’t believe he is strong enough for them.
Given the go-ahead by the father they will not hesitate to kill you. Nepolai. She said her voice grew softer. She was concerned about him and suspicious of the father’s motives.
Is that why you left? the poll I asked. She barely response by sipping her glass once more and nodding her head slightly before getting up and walking out the room. But it wasn’t and it was time for her to visit an old friend.
Chapter 13
Nora pulled up to the mansion she hasn’t seen in over 18 years. She sat in the car for a while reminiscing over the past life she experienced in this house. It was hard for her to argue that most of her time here was great but great to her was absolutely hell for another. Nora walked up to the door and press the doorbell. She remembered the first time she walked up the steps as a little girl nervous about what she would come the final other side. She had no idea that she was leaving her old life behind and almost entirely becoming a new person whenever she felt nervous about something new she always asked her mother what she could expect that way she could prepare and the best way for whatever situation it was. It might’ve never been perfect but it was enough to give her the confidence she needed to push through the situation. She was gone and there father said she had left with her lover to live in California. In now she didn’t know where to get her confidence from. Although there was times where she wish she was that little girl again she can help but think that this is a life she was supposed to have or else it would never have been. It was hard for her to believe in mistakes or coincidence and she felt that the universe was always precise and calculated. It brought her comfort at times thinking that the universe wanted her to have this experience and to learn from it somehow. A woman with a Bobvut answered the door. She knew immediately who was. It was hard for her to miss those white Brown eyes and high cheekbones. She was cc personal hunter. The last time she remembered seeing Leah was when she was a child before she took in Nepolai.
Leah. Nora said.
Nora, is good to see you. She said crossing her arms. I her so much about you. She said.
I don’t have that much time where’s Stacy? She asked.
You mean the father? Lee asked Letting Nora inside. Nora smiled forcefully.
No I mean Stacy. She said in a stern manner.
The dining room he’s been hoping that you would show up. She said. Leah guided Nora to the living room where the father was eating his dinner. It wasn’t like she didn’t know where was but she followed anyway. Nora could see the father eating at the dining table with his back facing her as she walked to the doorway. For second her body froze she had heard rumors that Stacy was now the father of the community but she didn’t care. Now she was wondering if the man she knew and held so dear all those years ago would be the same person she fell in love with or the title sheet despise the most.
Father Leah said softly grabbing his attention. You guessed has arrived. The father dropped his silverware grabbed a napkin and wiped his face before standing up.
Nora. He said with intense celebration. He gave her a hug that refused to reciprocate and kissed her on the cheek. She could smell x[DAB13][DAB14] she was conflicted due to its delightful smell. It’s great to see you again please take a seat. He said directing her to the chair across from her. The server filled and empty glass in front of her with wine. She directed him to stop a quarter through. Nora I have to say you sitting there across from me just feels so right. I’ll think you understand how much I’ve missed you. He said cutting into his X[DAB15].
Nora rolled her eyes at his sentiment. She wasn’t there to talk about them. Stacy. She said stopping his rambling. As much as you think I want to sit here and talk about us, I don’t. She said.
The father swallowed his bite. You hear about the boy? He asked.
Yes, what do you think you’re doing sending your hunters to follow Nepolai? She asked.
Is not just a boy the following you to. He said. He grinned a little. My hunters told me 20 minutes ago that you were waiting outside. Where you free to see your lover? He asked.
Your anything but. She said taken the sip of wine. Then your father one say your time is best focused on the present rather than reminiscing in the past. He said. She hated his father not because he wasn’t a decent person but once he claimed the title over the community he was never the same wise man she group want to know.
A server came out from the back of the dining room and placed Nora’s plate on the table.
Name of dish, I made it myself with the finest meet. It had got cold while you were sitting out in the car not reminiscing in the past. So I had glin the wooden oven. Glenn have been one of the communities chef since she came and joined the community. If there’s any person she could think for her lover food if the him. He taught her everything she knew about cooking the perfect meal. I know what your favorite. What you was in as much as she wanted to take a bite she wasn’t there to eat, not with him.
I’m not hungry. She said.
Nora. He said not taken a no for an answer. He was the type of person who believes that you didn’t need to be hungry to actually eat and enjoy a male. If there was one thing she hated about him it was his greed. He could never have enough even if he was satisfied. Don’t be rude, eat. He said insinuating his fork and knife towards her plate.
Nor just stared at him letting the heat one cold front of plate. I’m going to ask you one more time what do you want from my son? She asked.
Oh he’s your son now? He said with a heavy smirk on his face.
Don’t play with me Stacy he’s always been. She said. The father took a sip of wine from his glass.
Okay, I’ll tell you if you answer one question for me. He said. Nora sat there waiting for him to ask question. His silence is making it harder for her to even want him to ask anything. She was afraid of where it might lead. Why did you run away? He asked. You knew it was against the rules and you still left. Why? He asked.
Nora tucked her dark red curls behind her ears. He had to ask the ultimate question. The question that changed her life for the second time. When her father brought her to the community she had no idea the thing she would have to do to be a part of. Things that for her insides and degraded her soul.
> When I watched my friend get slaughtered by her own son I realized that I made a horrific mistake. It broke me to watch a for year-old boy sits in the blood of his parents and become immersed in it. He was broken so traumatized he couldn’t even remember what had happened or comprehend that his parents were cold and lifeless right in front of. She said.
The father setback and share and continued to drink his wine.
I couldn’t bring him back to the community. And knowing that I knew I couldn’t returned either go or what I want. He said. So I left.
You knew what you were supposed to do Nora. You knew you were supposed to manipulate the boy and killing his family. This is a part of his initiation become a hunter. Why are you acting like he didn’t know that there is no better leverage than having murdered your entire family hanging over your head? It’s how we control! He said sitting his glass down. Nora’s eyes filled with tears thinking about her friend but she didn’t let them fall. I for the killed you like my father said. Nora’s heart pounded against her chest. Her face was flushed with motion but it clenched at the word that spewed from his mouth. You were sloppy you meet friends the boy’s mother you knew that was against the rules. It creates baggage and risk. The father told me to come out the and bring you back you in the boy. He thought you escaped from us but you really did. for years I imagined walking into that note house of yours in dragging your ass back here myself.
Why didn’t you? She asked. A tear escaping from her I racing down her face.
The father sighed. Because I love you. I still do. He said before taking his handkerchief and wiped his face. Nora couldn’t help but let the tears fall from the face. She took her napkin to wipe them away even though it was too late for her to try to make herself not look week. He rubbed his hands together as if they were cold and needed heated and then clapped.
