“You mean the night some woman tried to strangle you? I think we’re better off watching Carrie.”

  Olivia frowned. “A horror flick?”

A sly grin crossed Andrew’s face. “Sure. That way, when you’re scared, you can snuggle up under my arm, and I can cop a feel.”

Pretending to be outraged, she tossed a few kernels at him. “I do not get scared!”

  “Prove it,” he challenged.

“Fine. But I may not be so generous with the popcorn.”

“We’ll see about that,” he fake-growled as he reached for her. She shrieked with laughter and ran into the living room. As popcorn spilled to the floor, Goodwin and Fender both lunged for it.

Settling on the couch, she did indeed snuggle under his arm, and when his hand swooped a little too low, she batted it away. “The movie hasn’t even started yet!” she laughed.

“At least the walls will match the theme,” he muttered.

Olivia stared at the maroon wall behind the entertainment center that she’d so lovingly painted. “I’m sorry? Did you say something?” she asked in a dangerous tone.

“Nothing, sweetheart. I just think that our landlord might have gone a little overboard with the colors,” he said with a grin.

Olivia waved her hand dismissively. “You know nothing about home decor.”

“True. I guess I should watch some YouTube videos.”

As she pinched him lightly, she was secretly delighted, although she was sure that Andrew felt the same. The last month had seen a lot of changes between them, and although they were hardly where they had been before, they were stronger than ever, and for the first time, Olivia wasn’t afraid of her future.
