Deep (Heavy Hearts Book 2) Page 30

by Sarah Jane Duncan

  “It was me,” I whisper.

“What was you?” Ayden asks, his fingers moving to my chin and lifting my head so he can see me.

“I was the one that was with Travis when he broke into the school and trashed it.”

  Ayden frowns. “You?”

I nod, closing my eyes. I don’t want to see his opinion of me change.

“You broke into the school and trashed it?”

My eyes fly open when I hear humour in his voice. I nod.

“You?” He asks, clearly not believing me, which just pisses me off.

I sit up, annoyed and throw off the covers. The moment I stand, I find myself pulled back into the bed with Ayden’s arms wrapped around my middle. Pushing me down to the mattress and pinning me to the bed, Ayden looms over me, trapping my arms above my head as amusement caves in those adorable dimples.

“Get off me, Ayden,” I warn.

He shakes his head. “No, I’m not letting you run off every time something gets hard or doesn’t go your way. I’m sorry for not taking you seriously, but I am now. Tell me about that night.”

I glare at him, “Are you going to get off me?”

“No way. You feel too fucking good underneath me.” He admits. It’s then that I notice the hard bulge pressing against me in the most sensitive way.

I roll my eyes. “Fine, I’ll tell you, but you better give me another orgasm for it.”

“So needy. Luckily, I’m more than happy to comply.” Ayden proves this by pushing his pelvis forward, causing friction that makes us both moan.

Shit. I need to focus and tell him about that night before I get lost in the pleasure he conjures up inside me.

“I was kind of spiralling, I think. Tasha had one of her parties, and apparently, I ended up in the shed with the stoners getting high. This is just what I’ve been told because I can’t remember much.” I moan again when Ayden slowly, teasingly rubs his length over my clit.

“Keep going.” He whispers. Jesus, this is torture. I’m just going to spit it out and move on to orgasmville.

“I started walking off from the party. Travis was outside and went with me so I wouldn’t be alone. We ended up at the school. I remember smashing a window with my fist.”

Ayden freezes, “What? You punched a window?” I nod, “Were you hurt?”

“A few cuts. Shit Ayden, don’t stop.” I growl in frustration, causing him to chuckle. He starts moving again, sliding between my folds.

  “Then what happened?” He whispers.

“We trashed the Art room then moved on to the canteen because we were hungry. I woke up the next day with not much of a memory and a feeling like I did something bad. Travis told me all the details in exchange for a bag of weed which I stole from Mike before going to another party and getting high again and waking up on my ex-boyfriend's lap straddling him with our clothes on. But we didn’t have sex which was a good fucking thing because I saved myself for you. Yes, keep doing that.” I rush it all out and dig my nails into Ayden’s arse cheeks as he slides inside, and we ride another high together.

Afterwards, through panted breaths, Ayden growls. “Who the fuck is your ex-boyfriend, and where can I find him so I can punch the shit out of him?”

  CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN

Mr Matthews is lost for words. I never thought I’d see the day when I would be successful in my pursuit to shock the guy, yet here we are.

“Are you being serious right now?” He asks, and I nod.

In line with me opening up from our session on Monday, in today’s session, I go for gold and verbally vomit everything that happened over the last two days since seeing him. There’s the visit from Muz, the song with Ayden, the sex with Ayden, yes, I told him about that. Then I told him about the call from Val, the visit from my dad, that Muz showed up with a gun, the missing file that my dad is searching for, the phone call between my parents, the cops turning up, the visit to Abbey’s, the therapeutic sex with Ayden, oh and the little chat Andrea had with me last night about having unprotected sex before giving me the morning after pill, which Ayden organised with her. Yep, that happened.

“You’ve got a lot going on.” Mr Mathews says, taking a sip of his water. He’s probably wishing it was vodka.

“Yeah, well, you wanted to know what happened since our last appointment two days ago.”

“Yes. Right. Well, with all of those things that happened, is there anything in particular that you would like to discuss in more detail today?”

  I shrug.

  “How about this Muts guy?”

“Muz.” I giggle, correcting Mr Matthews.

“Oh, right. Muz. You said he threatened you, but then he protected you. Do you know why?”

“No idea. Maybe he’s hoping it will win him brownie points with Ayden, so he talks to his dad about helping Muz.” I shrug, leaning forward to grab a handful of M&Ms from the bowl on the table between us.

“How about what’s happening between your parents. That must be confusing.” Mr Matthews scrubs his hand over his shiny bald head. It’s so shiny, I could probably see my reflection in it.

“Well yeah. I have no idea what’s going on. I just need the cops to hurry up and catch my dad and brother. It’s driving me crazy having to look over my shoulder all the time.”

“Yes, I can imagine it would.” Mr Matthews agrees.

My attention is caught by my phone buzzing, and I pull it out of my hoodie pocket. The boy's group chat is blowing up. I shouldn’t look while I’m in my appointment with the school counsellor, but I do.

  Jared Crowley

What the fuck is Tasha’s problem? I’m over that bitch trying to bring Lexi down!

  Garrett Cole

Someone needs to put her in her box.

  Simon Hastings

Grady man, get your bitch to sort Tasha out.

She’ll put her back in her box and bury it so no one can find it.

  Marcus Grady

Hastings, if you call Rhys a bitch one more time, I’m going to dick punch you until you’ve got a fucking vagina!

Mr Matthews clears his throat. “Lexi, can you pop your phone away, please?”

I look up to him briefly, but I’m drawn back to my phone when another message comes through.

  Shaun Bossier

  Ha! Take that, Hastings!

  Simon Hastings

Everyone is so touchy these days!

  Ayden Mitchell

  Can someone fill me in?

  What’s happened now?

  Jared Crowley

Today’s rumour is that Lexi was Travis Watson’s accomplice in the school vandalism.

  Oh shit!

  Ayden Mitchell

Fuck! Are you sure it’s Tasha spreading it?

  Marcus Grady

  Who else would it be?

“Okay, Lexi. I think we are done here.” Mr Matthews's clipped tone gets my attention.

“No. Wait!” I panic; my knee starts jiggling up and down.

Mr Matthews frowns at my knee. “What’s just happened?”

“Ah. Um. Ah.” Shit. I can’t tell him about my part in the school vandalism… can I?

“This is a safe zone, Lexi. You can tell me anything, remember?”

He says that, but can I really, without him legally having to divulge information to the authorities? My phone keeps buzzing with incoming messages, but I slide it back into my pocket. I can read them on my way home after this.

“Hypothetically speaking, if I told you something that happened that may be illegal, would you be obligated to report it?” I rush the words out and wait quietly while Mr Matthews thinks up his answer.

“You mean like hanging around with a gangster that pulled a gun on your dad? That sort of illegal?”

Well shit. I hadn’t thought that through when I verbally vomited that information, had I? I shrug.

“Kind of, I guess, but maybe more like if I did something illegal like holding a gun to my dad's head?”

  “Did
you?” he asks, and I shake my head and frown.

  “No! This is hypothetical.”

He sighs. “I do have an obligation, Lexi. A Duty of Care that if you are behaving in a way that breaks the law, or is harmful to others or yourself, that I must report it.”

“Right,” I say and then throw a smile on my face. “Well, it’s a good thing I’m a stellar law-abiding citizen then, isn’t it?” I laugh, but it’s forced.

  Mr Matthews frowns, studying me.

“Oh, look at the time. I should go.” I glance at my wrist to a watch that isn’t there and stand ready to get the hell out of Dodge.

“Lexi, what’s happened?” Mr Matthews asks, walking hurriedly behind me as I make a mad dash towards the door.

“Nothing. All G. Mr M. See you in a couple of days.”

I don’t hang around to hear what Mr Matthews says next because I’m out the door and down the hall in the blink of an eye. I should go home, but I don’t. I send the boys a message to meet me where Rhys hangs out at recess, and I sneak up to the back of the school and wait it out.

The bell has barely gone when I see Ayden round the corner, his eyes locking onto mine.

“Are you okay?” He doesn’t give me a chance to answer when he reaches me and claims my lips. My panic starts to subside a little, and I know it’s from the drug that is Ayden Mitchell.

I nod when he pulls back and cups my face to look into my eyes.

“I need to come clean,” I whisper, and Ayden’s eyes swim with concern.

“It’s only a rumour, Lex.” He whispers back.

  “You know it’s not Ayden.”

He frowns, “So? You don’t have to tell anyone else. It just looks like another desperate attempt by Tasha to bring you down.”

“I know. But I just feel like I need to be free of all the lies. I fucked up Ayden. Bad. Travis shouldn’t be the only one that has to pay for it.” I step back from Ayden’s hold when I hear the banter of the boy’s float around the corner.

Ayden gives me a small grin. “I get it, Lex. You do what you need to do. I’ll be right by your side.”

  “You will?”

“Yes. I will.” Ayden’s support is overwhelming. I could cry if I let myself, but I won’t because I’m sick of my eyes leaking.

“Here’s our girl. This place is so boring without you, Lexi.” Simon bounds up to me and lifts me into a spin from behind, causing me to squeal.

When he puts me down, I’m met with a high five from Shaun and Garrett, a hug from Jared, and a playful shoulder bump from Marcus. Rhys and her crew haven’t made it here yet, so now is the best time to get this conversation over and done with.

I give the boys a quick rundown of the night I broke into the school with Travis and watch a mix of emotions flit across their faces. By the end, I can’t look at them. My shame is too much and seeing it in their eyes will surely kill me.

“Okay, then. We should still redirect the focus to Tasha. No one will believe the crap she is trying to spread, anyway.” Marcus says, and the other boy's nod.

“Only it isn’t crap, is it? It’s true.” I counter, and Simon catches my eye. He’s smiling.

“It’s our secret. They don’t need to know that. Fuck Tasha. She’s been nothing but a vindictive cow to you. It’s time to take her down.”

“I think I’m in enough trouble already.” I can’t afford to get busted for anything else.

“Nah, not you Lex. We should get Rhys to handle this.” Marcus says, just as the crazy chick in question appears behind us.

“Get me to handle what?” Rhys asks.

“Tasha,” Marcus says regarding Rhys. Their eye contact gives away that they are more than just friends with benefits, but that’s the only sign that there’s something more going on between them.

“Ooooh, Yes. I’d be happy to bring her down.” Rhys rubs her hands together, and everyone laughs. Everyone but me.

“No.” All eyes turn to me. “I really just want to ignore her. She will hate that more. I don’t want to make a big deal about Tasha, and I also don’t want anyone else getting into it with her either. People can see who she really is. She’s digging her own grave. Let’s just leave it to karma.”

“Oh, poo. That’s boring.” Rhys stomps her foot, lightening the mood again.

The rest of my new friends arrive then, and the conversation quickly disperses. Ayden is just about to take my hand in his when it’s snatched up by Jared.

“I need a moment with Six.” Jared glares at Ayden, who returns it but doesn’t try to stop Jared when he leads me away from the group into the trees.

“What was that about?” I ask Jared once he stops walking and turns to me. He doesn’t drop my hand.

“What?” His innocent reply makes me roll my eyes.

“The glare you shot Ayden. What’s your deal Jar?”

He is either swirling his tongue or biting the inside of his cheek right now. It’s hard to tell. But his blue eyes, which aren’t quite as bright as Ayden’s, roam my face and search my eyes.

“So, you guys are back together now?” He asks, his tone cold.

My shoulders drop, and I sigh. I don’t need this shit from Jared right now. But he’s my friend, so I guess we have to sort this out.

  “Yes, we are.”

“So, you just forgave him for the way he treated you?” There’s venom in Jared’s tone, and I hate hearing it from him.

“Let’s get something straight. I forgave him immediately because the situation was fucked, and I’m not going to have you judge him since you weren’t even there to witness anything. I didn’t take him back when he returned because I thought he deserved better.”

“Lex, I wasn’t there because you shut me out. For months you have done that, and you keep springing surprises on me. I could have fucking helped you every step of the way!” Frustration sees Jared drag his hand through his ash blonde hair, messing up his styling. “Why the fuck would you think Ayden deserves better than you? If anything, you deserve better than him. Much better. Fuck Six! I thought we were friends?”

Jared’s words sting. I hadn’t meant to shut him or anyone else out. But I had until Ayden came along. I could argue that Jared didn’t fight hard enough to make sure I was okay, but that’s not fair. He didn’t know, and what’s done is done.

“I’m sorry I didn’t come to you. I’ve told you before I was ashamed. I still am, but I’m trying. Don’t make me regret opening up to all of you.” I’m snappy now because, fuck, I don’t feel like I deserve this attack from Jared.

Jared hangs his head, pressing his forehead to mine. “Sorry, Six. I get a bit crazy when it comes to you.”

We are quiet for a few moments, both of us gathering our thoughts.

“I’m really into him, Jar,” I admit, my voice quiet, and he draws back, a frown creasing his forehead. “Can you please be happy for me?”

Jared studies me for a few long agonizing moments, and then his face softens, and he nods. “I am happy for you Lex. Just an overprotective arsehole. You know that.”

  I nod. “I do.”

  He chuckles.

“Can I go back and see him now? Recess is nearly over, and I’ll have to go back home.” I really just want Ayden to come with me. How tempting it is to spend the day in bed wrapped in his arms. It sounds like heaven.

“Yeah, I guess.” Jared smiles and releases my hand, walking beside me as we weave back through the trees to return to our friends.

Ayden’s eyes are on the tree line, and he spots us immediately as we walk back out. His jaw ticks, and I can tell that he’s holding a hell of a lot of restraint right now. I don’t make him wait any longer, going straight to wrap my arms around his neck, pulling him down for a kiss.

It’s not a passionate kiss because Ayden is too tense, his mind elsewhere.

“Sorry, bro. Just needed a minute with our–ah, with Lexi.” Jared’s fumbled words cause Ayden to glare, a growl coming from deep within his chest. On my, I do like that
growl. Jared throw’s his hands up in surrender just as the bell rings, indicating the end of recess and my brief time with Ayden. As if he feels the same disappointment as I do, Ayden tugs me close and buries his face in my neck.

“I don’t want to be away from you, Lex. It’s a form of torture.”

I giggle at his agonised tone, and then I moan from the nip he delivers to my earlobe.

“Make sure you don’t have any homework tonight. I want your time.” I whisper right before he takes my lips in a kiss that’s filled with promises.

“You know Lexi, you still haven’t told me if he has a pretty cock. Stop avoiding me. I expect a full de-brief after school. I’m coming over.” Rhys whisper yells in my ear, effectively cutting short my lip-lock with Ayden.

“Sorry, Rhys. She has a prior engagement with me and my extremely pretty cock after school.” Ayden teases, leaving me in shock, and Rhys wearing a big smirk. I caved last night and told him about Rhys’s obsession with good looking cocks.

“See you later beautiful.” Ayden kisses the tip of my nose and shoots me that panty-melting wink of his before walking off with the boys to class.

“Fuck me, I think I just came in my knickers.” Rhys drawls, running her tongue over her lips.

I turn and slap her arm, “Eyes off, or we aren’t friends!” It’s a joke, and she beams, flashing me white teeth behind her black lips.

“See you after school. I’ll give you an hour of fuck time before I burst in and kidnap you from Ayden’s dick... I mean loft. I’ll get Marcus to keep me busy while I wait.” Wagging her dark brows, she walks backwards, thrusting and gyrating her hips.

I can’t help but laugh. That girl is as crazy as they come, and I love her for it. When she finally disappears around the corner of the building, I walk along the tree line until I reach the school fence and jump over it. I feel lighter, somehow. Like admitting to my part in the school vandalism has lifted another burden I carry. Of course, it’s not completely gone. I won’t feel free of it unless I come clean to the principal. Cynthia may be obligated to go to the police with that information. I just need to figure out if I’m willing to face up to that punishment and scrutiny from my peers or if I’m just a coward who’s willing to let someone else carry all the blame.
