LOVE ANTIQUE (Rules of Love Book 3)

Liam made up for the rough pregnancy by being an excellent baby. At least so far. He was happy and content and slept for three-hour stretches during the night and longer during the day. Laney didn’t have the energy or the calories to breastfeed, even though she’d planned on it. Because Liam was bottle fed, he drank his bottle eagerly, in a few minutes, and went right back to sleep.

Laney shifted beside him. She stared at her sleeping son, swaddled in his grandmother’s arms. “Although, looking at that face… he’s an angel. He looks just like his dad.”

“No way,” Hector protested. “He was lucky enough to get his mother’s good looks.”

“He looks nothing like me,” Laney laughed. “He has black hair!”

“That could fall out yet. Sometimes it does.”

  “And he has dark eyes.”

  “That could change…”

  “It won’t.”

“Well, he has your features. He has your beautiful skin tone and your nose and your lips.”

  “I might agree with that.”

“He’s a darling,” Emmaline cooed. She rocked Liam softly, even though he hadn’t stirred. “When are your parents coming over?”

“Tomorrow,” Laney confirmed. “We wanted a day or two for ourselves. And for you.”

Hector’s heart swelled with love as a silent moment passed between Laney and his mom. They were the best of friends. There was no mother-in-law, daughter-in-law rivalry between them. The two of them were closer than he was with his mom. Laney never had been overly close with her family. They were as independent as she was. It didn’t mean she didn’t love them or respect them or see them, but their relationship just wasn’t what it was between Laney and his mom.

“That’s very sweet. Are you sure there isn’t anything I can do to help you around here?”

“Nope,” Laney laughed. “Hector had this place neat and tidy. I never had to lift a finger.”

“It’s not a big house,” Hector protested. “I mean, not that big. It wasn’t hard.

“He did all the yard work too.”

“My mom knows.” He felt his face heat up. “Seriously. I didn’t do much.”

“At work, he was a savior. Rayvn and Charlotte did a lot to help me out, but Hector does all the hard work.”

“Who needs the gym when you lift furniture all day?” He smiled adoringly at his wife. “Somehow, even after six years together, we’ve managed not to kill each other.”

“It’s pretty rare that people can work together and stay sane.”

“Somehow we make it work.” The shine in Laney’s eyes said it all.

They fell into silence, all of them, content to just sit and enjoy the moment. For Hector, it was completely surreal. He’d thought about it so many times over the years, how he almost didn’t get to experience any of it. It all started that day he’d made the call in response to that ad about antique furniture. Everything from there happened so fast. It nearly didn’t happen at all, but he’d managed to pull his head out of his ass and get his shit together.

He and Laney bought a house right after he sold the farm. Even though everyone thought it was crazy fast, they’d moved in and they hadn’t looked back. He loved working with her as much as he loved living with her. For him, there was no one else. She was his only. She would always be his only.

She’d given him a family. His mom. Liam. He had her to thank for it all. He wanted to tell her, to thank her, but he knew she already knew. He probably wouldn’t have been able to get the words past the thick lump in his throat or the swelling of his heart in his chest. He let his hand linger on the small of Laney’s back and when she looked at him the love that passed silently between them, was worth more than a thousand words. It was far more than enough.

3 dates for one million dollars. Those were the conditions he stipulated on the contract.

Do I turn him down? Of course not, even though I have all these good reasons why I should:

Reason #1: I barely know the guy.

Reason #2: I have absolutely no idea why the hell he wants a date with ME of all people. It was not like there was anything special about me. No illusions there, thank you very much.

Reason #3: He was my Best Friend's Brother for god’s sake. Totally off limits!

Reason #4: Did I mention he makes my heart flutter like crazy? I definitely do not want to end up with a heart attack before I'm even out of my twenties.

See, I should have turned down his offer ...

  LOVE AUCTION

OMG! Did I just bid and win a date with Shane Rempel for over one thousand dollars?!

What the hell was I thinking? Was I not the one who just said I would never spend that kind of money for a date with a stranger?!

Apparently, all sane thoughts just flew right out the moment HE walked up on that stage at the auction.

I was hooked line, sinker and all.

And let me tell you, if you spend that much money for a date, you definitely go on that date. So, I went.

And guess what? It kind of ended with me starting a war with the guy on the said date. And I even did a walkout.

Yeps and after that disastrous first meeting, you definitely do not expect the guy to turn up at your workplace asking for another date!

But he did. And guess what I did...

Mia still remembered that time he called her an ugly little duckling. Admittedly, they had been kids but that comment still rankled.

Meeting him again thirteen years later had not changed one thing. She still hated him.

And she hated even more seeing him flirt with her sister.

"Why don’t we play a little game?” he asked.

  “What sort of game?”

“A challenge,” Stephane said, his eyes glittering. “I’ll stay away from your sister. But only if you can resist me for the rest of the trip.”

The nerve of him. Well, she was about to show him just how much of a loser he was. He thought he was God’s gift to woman. Time for a rude awakening. There was no way she was going to be letting herself be seduced, come hell and high water!
