  After several years of therapy, Megan Assink, who has Pompe disease, can smile, talk, and walk with braces. In this picture taken on Christmas Eve 2005, she dances for her parents, Greg and Deborah, who laugh in the background.

  This picture, taken when John was still in the early phases of fund-raising for the Children’s Pompe Foundation, ran in Family Circle magazine with the line, “Too weak to walk, but not to hug.” Megan and Patrick continue to inspire their father on the journey to find a cure for Pompe.
