“When I tell Wendell this story, I’m sure he’ll feel the same way!”
Fina lowered her sunglasses on the bridge of her nose. She stared at Ruby. Ruby returned the gesture.
“But this doesn’t explain how someone else knew our code name, too,” said Fina.
“Who?”
“Victor! Or, more precisely, his pig,” said Fina.
Ruby winced. “I had forgotten about that, too. Do you want to hear my theory?”
“Please – I’m completely stumped,” said Fina.
“Remember dinner that second night? The night of the first murder? In his rather irritating adenoidal voice, Gilbert repeated something about the open window. His adenoids caused it to sound like ‘Wendell’. At least I think that’s what Victor heard. Thus he was inspired to name his new pig Wendell.”
“You are brilliant. And Wendell isn’t that uncommon a name,” replied Fina.
“And that pig did have a rather devious glint in its eye – making it a perfect namesake for a wily character like my brother!” said Ruby with a grin.
