I did as he said and watched as he unbuckled his belt, throwing it clumsily to the side. He slid his pants down and kicked them off.

Left only in his boxer briefs, he stopped short of taking them off, instead lowering his head and landing right between my legs. He got right into it, wasting no time before lapping at my clit as I bent my head back in ecstasy, screaming in pleasure as he hit all the right spots.

I yanked on his hair. “Levi…”

“I’m not done…” he teased, flicking his tongue over my clit harder, nearly bringing me to orgasm.

“Stop.” I moved his head back. “I almost came.”

“I need to fuck you now.” Levi reached over to the strip of condoms, took one off, and ripped it open. He flashed a mischievous grin. “I hope you’re ready.”

I raised up a bit to watch him slide it over his dick, which could only be described as beautiful—long and thick, with a perfect crown.

He squeezed the tip before returning to his spot over me. “If at any point I’m too rough with you, let me know, okay?”

Nothing he could do to me right now would be too much. I wanted him to completely wreck me. Unable to wait a second longer, I boldly placed my hand around his girth and led him into my entrance.

Levi bent his head back and groaned out something unintelligible before pushing himself inside of me, stopping only when he was balls deep.

His movements started slow before evolving into hard thrusts. I’d never wanted a man to fuck me so hard in my life. There was no limit to what I wanted Levi Miller to do to me. The bed shook, and I hoped by some miracle Fern couldn’t hear us, but honestly I couldn’t have stopped this even if I knew for a fact she was listening in right now. I just didn’t give a damn.

Grabbing his ass and squeezing hard, I guided his movements. All the while, our lips never separated. I knew nothing would ever be the same between us after today. I would never be the same. Maybe I should have been thinking about the repercussions of this, but they were the last thing on my mind right now. This man. This body. It was all that existed.

Moving my hips to meet his intense movements, I screamed from the sheer pleasure of feeling him so deeply inside of me. My hands gripped his hard, round ass as I felt the muscles between my legs contract.

His voice was low and deep. “Come, baby.”

It amazed me how well he knew my body, because I was ready to explode in that moment. Just as I began to let go, Levi’s eyes rolled back as he let out a long, sexy groan.

I didn’t think I’d ever forget the sounds he made as he came. Knowing that he was experiencing the same ecstasy as I was made my orgasm even more intense.

He collapsed over me and immediately began kissing my neck, breaking away only to dispose of the condom before returning to me. He continued to shower my body with soft kisses. It felt like he was worshipping me. No one had ever made love to me the way he had, an equal combination of gentle and rough. We soon fell into another passionate kiss as we tumbled around in the sheets.

You would have thought after the amazing sex we’d just had that we’d fall asleep in each other’s arms or something—even if it was early afternoon. But after five minutes of kissing, Levi again grew hard as a rock, and before I knew it, he had another condom on and was inside of me again.

We had sex multiple times in the span of two hours, never leaving my room.

At one point, Levi went to the bathroom. His phone lit up with a text, and I couldn’t help glancing over.

The message was from Fern, of all people.

Fern: Can’t wait to collect that ten grand. I’ll give you my account information tonight. Don’t want to send it via text for security reasons.

What the hell is that all about?

  CHAPTER 14

  Levi

All through dinner, I couldn’t stop staring at Presley. She had her long blond hair covering the spot on her neck I’d bruised. We’d spent the afternoon holed up in her room all over each other, and I couldn’t get enough. I was already plotting how I could sneak into her room later without Alex knowing. If I’m not already going to hell, that should do it. Every time thoughts of Tanner entered my mind, though, I reminded myself he’d cheated on her and probably deserved this. But I knew that was a sorry excuse for what I’d done.

Alex sat across from me at the table, telling me all about the game he’d played at his friend’s today, and while I nodded and pretended to be listening, all I could think about was getting to fuck his mother again.

  Yup. Going straight to hell.

Normally when I was with a woman, after sex I’d immediately go for a shower and want my space. With her? I couldn’t wait to get my dick hard again so I could go for another round. And then when we were finally physically spent, all I wanted to do was lie with her and talk. About anything. It didn’t even matter. I just wanted to listen to her voice. I, Levi fucking Miller, wanted to talk after sex. Hell must be freezing over.

What the heck is happening with me? This was definitely not part of my plan in coming here, and I was going to be screwed when I had to leave.

This was so much bigger than my leaving, though. How would I explain it to Alex if he ever found out? He’d only just discovered what sex was—and he’d have to somehow process his uncle doing it with his mother? And then there was the obvious complication of Tanner finding out, which would be awful but actually scared me less than the Alex situation.

All of that aside, how the hell could I be there for Presley with my crazy schedule and the fact that I lived in Colorado half the year? There were so many reasons this couldn’t work. So many things that should have turned me off. And yet she was all I wanted right now.

Alex’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts. “Did you hear what I said, Uncle Levi?”

“Hmm?” I shook my head. “I’m sorry. Repeat it.”

“I told Caden that Alex was really short for Alejandro, like the Lady Gaga song, and he believed me! So now all the kids are calling me Alejandro.”

I chuckled. “I think that suits you.”

He turned to his mother. “Can I have dessert?”

“Sure, honey.” Presley stood and walked over to the freezer where she took out a carton of ice cream. She scooped some into a bowl and handed it to him. Then she turned to me. “You want some?”

She blushed soon after. The way she said it sounded like she was asking me if I wanted something else.

“I do.” I ran my tongue across my bottom lip. “And probably seconds.”

“Two bowls?” Alex said with his mouth full. “That’s a lot of ice cream. You’ll get an upset stomach.”

I kept my eyes on her. “There are some things you can never have too much of.”

She turned redder, and I freaking loved it. I was so damn hungry right now.

After dessert, Alex put his bowl in the sink and skipped off to his room. Presley was at the sink when I snuck up behind her. Sensing the heat of my body, she shut the water off and turned around.

“Can I help you?” she teased.

“Yes, actually, you can.” I leaned in to kiss her neck.

She arched her head toward the stairs. “We need to be careful.”

“I can do that. I can be really quiet, too, if I have to. I’d love to show you that talent tonight.”

“Not quiet enough…” Fern said as she waltzed into the room.

  Shit.

  Goddammit.

Presley yanked her body away from me. Earlier, I’d had to explain to her what Fern’s text meant. I’d wired the old lady the ten grand before dinner—not because I felt she deserved it, but because I’ve never been one to default on a bet. Plus, I needed to do everything in my power to make sure Fern kept her big trap shut. Needless to say, Presley was not happy when I told her.

Presley turned to her. “Fern, just to be clear, we need your utmost discretion about what you overheard. You can’t mention it to anyone, even people you think you can trust. You kno
w how fast things travel around this town. We can’t risk Alex or anyone else finding out.”

Fern smirked. “You have my word. The last thing I want is to cause trouble. Thatcher would never forgive me if I did. And for the record, I’m rootin’ for y’all. It’s scandalous as hell, but it was inevitable.” She winked. “And what your brother doesn’t know won’t hurt him. He certainly ain’t gonna hear nuthin’ from me.”

Just the mention of Tanner made my stomach turn.

“Well, thank you. I really appreciate it,” Presley said.

“There’s nothing better than living vicariously through young love.” She winked again.

Love? I hadn’t thought about whether I actually loved Presley, but given that I’d never felt these feelings before, there was a damn good chance this could be developing into that.

Before I could even begin to respond to her statement, I heard footsteps and Alex entered the kitchen. He lifted something up to show us. I soon recognized it as my belt. My damn belt. The same one I’d whipped off and thrown on the floor in Presley’s room today, right before I buried myself inside her. I couldn’t even deny it was mine because it had my friggin’ initials monogrammed on the buckle.

  Fuck.

  Fuck.

  Fuck.

“I found your belt on the floor in Mom’s room, Uncle Levi. I thought maybe Mom borrowed my iPad again, so I was looking for it in there. This was on the floor.”

Presley’s face was red as a beet. She was probably ready to shit a brick.

Snapping my fingers, I said, “That’s where it is! Thank you. I was looking for it.” I took the belt from him. “I ate too much for lunch, and I took it off when I was fixing that light in your mom’s bedroom. Totally forgot I did that.”

“Too much ice cream, maybe?” He laughed.

  He seemed to buy it.

“Yup. I think you were right. I need to stop eating so much before I make myself sick.”

  Alex shrugged and disappeared again.

Presley and I let out a collective sigh of relief.

“I’d love to know what you were really doing with that belt,” Fern quipped.

  CHAPTER 15

  Presley

Warm lips touched my bare shoulder as I stood at the kitchen sink. When I turned, Levi was licking his lips. “Why do you taste salty?”

“Umm…that’s dried sweat you just had your mouth on. While you were busy sleeping in until almost ten, I finished painting the last of the living room moldings, scrubbed the floors, and polished a set of black candlesticks until they turned silver again.”

He grinned and tugged a wayward piece of my hair hanging in my face. “I did sleep pretty late. Must’ve been all the exercise I got yesterday. You know, if you’re already sweaty…”

I felt warmth bloom in my belly, yet I nudged Levi back with a laugh. We’d almost gotten caught a few times over the last week, and we needed to be more careful. “Alex is outside riding his bike. He could burst in at any second.”

Levi pouted. It was adorable. “Fine. I guess I’ll go to Home Depot to get mollies for the pictures you want me to hang in the living room, then.”

“That sounds like a good idea. Thank you.”

“You need anything while I’m out?”

I shook my head. “I don’t think so.”

He winked. “Be back in a little while.” But he stopped as he reached the kitchen door, looking into the living room. He held out a hand to me. “Come here.”

I walked over and stood next to him. “What?”

“Do you remember what this place looked like when you got here?”

  “Yeah.”

“Look at it now. Take a good look.”

I studied the living room. It looked incredible, if I might say so myself. The walls that had been peeling were freshly painted, old, scuffed-up floors had been sanded and refinished, soot-stained stones on the fireplace had been scrubbed and polished until they sparkled, and colorful new window treatments and matching throw pillows on the couch lit up the room.

I sighed. “It does look pretty great, doesn’t it?”

Levi nodded. “It does, and that’s all you. I think I was about ten the last time this place looked like this. It even smells awesome. You’ve done an amazing job, Presley.”

I smiled. “Thanks. That means a lot to me.”

Levi looked into my eyes. I thought he was going to say something else, but he didn’t. Instead, he shoved his hands into his pockets and nodded. “I’ll be back.”

A few minutes after he left, my cell phone rang. Seeing Harper’s face on the screen, I plopped down on the couch and kicked my feet up on the coffee table with a smile.

“Hey, I was going to call you later today,” I said.

“I wish you would’ve called me a half hour ago. I might not have thrown my trash at the new intern.”

“You threw garbage at an intern?”

“It was an accident. I was walking by what’s usually an empty cubicle while arguing with someone on a call, and from the corner of my eye I mistook her for a wastepaper basket.”

“You thought a human was a wastepaper basket?”

“She’s skinny and was just sitting there, not moving.”

I laughed. “I miss hearing your daily mishaps.”

“Well, you could remedy that pretty easily. Call more.”

  “Yeah, I know. I’m sorry. I’ve just been…busy.”

“Does that mean The Palm Inn is almost ready for the grand opening?”

I looked around again. “It’s getting there. Two days ago, I quietly started an ad that directed people to our new website, and a few more nights have already been booked for late next month.”

“Good. I’m glad you’re ready, because I think we’re going to be able to sell you out.”

  My brows furrowed. “How?”

“I got you a two-page spread in Southern Living magazine.”

  “Are you joking?”

“Nope. One of the guys who used to work for me works there as an editor now. We keep in touch, so when I came back from my visit to you, I emailed him a couple of photos I’d taken of The Palm Inn and asked him to keep us in mind if he ever had an opportunity for a feature. He said he would, but I wasn’t sure anything more would come of it. Then this morning, he called and said they’re running a feature on landmark B&Bs, and one of the buildings they’d planned to showcase fell through at the last minute. He can give it to us with a two-page pictorial!”

  I sat up. “Wow!”

“There are two catches, though. First, they’re on a tight deadline, so they need a full photo shoot within twenty-four hours.”

“Well, I can do that myself, if they’re okay with it.”

“I figured you’d say that, so I just sent a link to your portfolio over to them. I should hear back pretty fast.”

  “Okay. What’s the other catch?”

“They want Levi Miller in at least one of the photos.”

  “I don’t think he’ll have a problem with that.”

“But won’t that be helping you, and lessening his chances of winning the bet you have going?”

I’d actually forgotten about our bet. “Things have…sort of changed between me and Levi. That’s what I was planning to call you about this afternoon. He’s not pushing me on selling it anymore.”

“Well, that’s a good thing.” I heard a knock at the door through the phone, and Harper said, “Hang on a sec, will you, hun?”

  “Sure.”

I listened to the muffled sound of a woman speaking in the background. “Sorry to interrupt, Harper. But your ten-thirty appointment is here. You also have Lyle Druker from the Chicago Tribune on line two.”

“Thanks, Liz. Just give me a minute.” Harper came back on the line. “Sorry about that. I also have a few other things I was able to get lined up for The Palm Inn, but I have to run right now. Maybe we can catch up tonight?”

  “Yeah, sure.”

“How much time do you need to check with Levi before I can tell Southern Living we’re a go?”

“He should be back in a half hour. But I really think he’ll be fine with it.”

“Sounds like things have improved between the two of you.”

  “Yeah…I, uh, we slept together.”

“What?!” My best friend screamed so loud, I had to pull the phone away from my ear. “Hang on.” I heard the muffling of the phone once again and then, “Liz!”

“Yes?” came a voice in the background.

“Tell Lyle Druker I’ll call him back in an hour. And my ten thirty is a prospective new client. Can you tell him I have an emergency and to get started on the new client intake form so he isn’t just sitting there, please?”

  “Sure thing.”

“Give me fifteen minutes. Don’t interrupt unless the building is on fire. And it better be a big fire, not a little toaster oven.”

  “Uhhh…okay.”

“Thank you. Shut the door behind you.” Harper came back on the line. “Start talking.”

For the next fifteen minutes, I filled her in on everything that had transpired since the night of Alex’s camping party.

“So what are you going to do about Tanner?”

“I’m not going to do anything, because he’s never going to know. In less than a month, Levi will be back in Colorado, and that will be it. This was just… We have a strong physical connection, and we let ourselves get carried away.”

“So it’s just physical? You don’t have feelings for him?”

I shook my head. “It doesn’t matter if I do. It could never be more for so many reasons.”

  “You mean Tanner?”

“Well, yeah. But that’s not the only reason. Levi leads a very different lifestyle than I do. He’s a pro athlete who travels half the year, and I have a son who is in school here, and planting roots for him is my priority. I also don’t want to confuse Alex.”

“I don’t know, Presley. That all sounds logical and smart, but the heart doesn’t always do logical and smart. I don’t want you to get hurt.”
