He pinched her bottom and she wiggled closer, tightening her leg around his hip. “How have the other priestesses accepted their new leader?”
“I was more or less their leader while Perion was alive. It wasn’t that big an adjustment. They are relieved that he is gone and they are trying to acclimate themselves to the new city. So, how are things progressing at the clinic? Have you chosen your staff yet?”
“I don’t think the clinic will be fully operational by the grand opening. Xyell will just have to deal. I’ve hired one of the doctors and both the nurses. I still need a pharmacist. Pardon me, an apothecary.”
“It will be really frustrating for all of you to give up technology. I know they made concessions for some things, but you are still going to be practicing medicine with one hand tied behind your back.”
“Just having access to antibiotics will be a vast improvement for these people. The rest will keep life interesting.”
“I suspect boredom won’t be a problem for either of us.”
“I suspect you’re right.” They paused for a long, tender kiss then he said, “Have you had any more visions?”
“Not so far. We have prepared as well as we can. All we can do now is respond to each crisis as it comes our way.”
He rubbed his lips against hers and whispered, “Welcome to New Pompeii.”

When my parents realized I had an aptitude for storytelling—okay, even at an early age I was a consummate liar—they encouraged me to find constructive ways to put all that “creativity” to use. I wrote my first novel when I was in junior high school. It was a typical teenage girl’s fantasy about being kidnapped by a rock star, finding out he was really a misunderstood, millionaire’s son, and living happily ever after with the reformed rebel. Erotic romance just seemed like an inevitable destination for someone with my naughty muse.
Now I spend my days, and many of my nights, trying to keep up with the characters springing to life within my mind. I find creative ways of avoiding errands and housework because I can’t drag myself away from the dramas unfolding in my latest story. And every day I thank God I was able to quit my day job and actively pursue my dream!
