Wave of Death
Page 22
Regaining my feet, I pointed the bow to the boat pier. Admiral Collins and his staff stood on the bank waiting, watching. A few minutes later, my sea legs kept me balanced as I barely managed to toss the lines to the Shore Patrol waiting on the dock. I clutched my injured shoulder, blood dripping between the fingers. As I stepped off the wooden planks, Rex ran forward with his medical bag. He pushed me onto a nearby bench, then ignored my curses as he used scissors to cut away one of my best uniform jumpers.
The Admiral stood before me, a cigar stuck in his mouth. “Flanders is dead, eh?”
“Yes, Sir.”
“Well, Coleman, this time you have witnesses. The Marines put a helicopter overhead and saw everything. I’ll rule accidental death. Oh, and don’t bother cleaning out that office. You’ve proved the value of DISC. You have a job.”
