Skye looked down at her feet. They did travel in packs and she knew it from personal experience. She knew she couldn’t allow her family, Mike included, to be hurt again.

“We have to find out how it got here. Someone obviously sent it after me.” Skye said.

“We don’t know that…” Cloud whispered.

“Mom, it came here. No other house. None of you are a threat to anyone else. I’m the threat.” Skye said with a sigh.

“Who all knows about us though? They would have to know your family line to know you are the prophecy.” Cloud said softly.

“Maddox and his family know.” Mike spoke up. Skye’s eyes shot to his. She shook her head quickly.

“Mike…” she started, but he interrupted her.

“Don’t defend him. Not after what he did. The reality is that his father had been after you since you were a child! Yes, demons go after light creatures, but they don’t obsess after them like he did you. He knew and that’s why he wanted you. Probably why he sent Maddox after you.” Mike added. Skye stood up in anger.

“Maddox is a bastard who hurt me because he’s an asshole. He didn’t come after me because of his father. His father wanted me and never told Maddox why.” Skye growled.

“Don’t get so upset.” Mike said detached.

“I’m pissed off because you are making me defend him! I will admit he is a fucking monster. He’s evil, but I was not part of his sinister plot.” Skye stormed out up to her own room and locked the door behind her.

She couldn’t take it anymore. She needed to be alone. Her father’s bloodline was alive and well inside of her. It was thriving through her veins.

“I heal though. Healing should be good. Healing like that shouldn’t be considered evil.” she whispered staring at her hands.

She already knew what her father would say. He would point out that sometimes death is meant to be. That it wasn’t an ending but another beginning. Skye cursed the thought.

“I won’t allow anyone I love to die when I can save them.” she vowed to herself.

Stripping out of her clothes, she threw them to the ground and crawled into her bed facing the window. She focused on the peaceful moonlight above her.

She begged for it to come inside of her and calm her soul. She begged for it to wipe out any bad, any evil that could be hiding inside of her. Instead what it did was put her to sleep.

  Chapter Sixteen

“Do you enjoy torturing me?” he asked lying naked on his bed.

Skye licked her lips savoring the amazing view she was getting. He had even more muscles on his body than the last time she saw him. He was tanner as well. Skye looked down at herself and realized she was naked.

“Why am I never wearing clothes in these dreams?” she asked raising her eyebrow. Maddox had the audacity to look hurt.

“What you think I’m doing it? It’s your dream my love.” he grinned as he took in the sight before him. Skye rolled her eyes.

“If it’s my dream, then don’t call me your love. You lost that right when you slept with that whore Nancy.”

Skye sat at the end of his bed careful not to get close to him. Part of her feared that he would reel her in like a fish on a hook with no way out. She would allow it. Not because she was weak, but because this was a dream and in dreams you should be able to act out your inner most desires… even if they are naughty.

“I never slept with her. If we are going to have these pleasant unclothed dreams let’s at least get that out of the way.” Maddox sat up suddenly looking Skye in her bright eyes.

“Don’t lie to me.” Skye whispered.

  “I’m not.”

“Bullshit, Maddox!” He huffed and jumped off the bed grabbing her upper arms gently to force her to face him.

“If this is my dream then this guilt I carry for hurting you has to be gone. I know I didn’t cheat on you. Was I wrong for pretending to? Yes. No. Maybe. I don’t know! It was the only way you would leave me and not face my father. And for that, I would lie again.”

Skye thought this to be a very odd conversation for her dream. Perhaps her subconscious was trying to make a way for them to have ‘dream sex’ after all. She never realized her subconscious was such a slut.

“I don’t want to think of this. Standing naked in your room talking about…”

“Too much information?” Maddox said with a grin. “That was always your line when things got too complicated.”

“You remember? Or I made you remember since this is my dream?” Skye laughed.

“I’ve hated myself for lying to you, Skye. I would never cheat on you. Buck was pissed at me for lying as well. It worked though. You ran. I thought I did the right thing but now I’m not so sure. I miss you. I miss touching you, seeing you…” His hands skimmed softly up and down the sides of her arms.

Skye felt her body heat up at his touch. She wanted to believe he never cheated on her. She decided to believe it. Dreams could be whatever you wanted them to be and she wanted him to be faithful and only thinking of her. When she woke up again, she would know the truth.

“I know you want me. I can see it in your eyes. You’re breathing faster and your body has other ways of telling me.” Maddox said.

Skye’s mouth opened in shock. Maddox took that opportunity to take her mouth with his own. Skye thrust her tongue into his mouth and rolled it around with his fighting for dominance.

Maddox pushed her body up against his and the friction set them ablaze. He pushed her back onto the bed crawling on top of her, never severing contact with her mouth.

Skye moaned into the kiss. The sound shot through Maddox like a lance. He growled, nipping her bottom lip with his teeth. His hands traced up and down her body feeling her softness until his hands settled between her legs.

He slowly slid a finger inside of her and the moan she rewarded him with had him hard and ready to take her then. As he began to position himself to take her she pushed on his chest breaking the kiss.

“No! Don’t!” Maddox froze at her words.

“Why baby? You want this. I have proof. You’re wet for me. You always were.” His finger slipped inside of her slowly again moving in small circles making her gasp loudly.

  “Maddox… please…” she mewed.

He removed his hand and placed it beside her head looking down at her. He closed his eyes and took a breath to steady himself before looking at her again.

“I know about Mike. I know you’re with him, but this is just a dream. Why can’t we just enjoy the dream?”

  “Mike? No…”

“It’s not cheating if it’s a dream.” Maddox bent over taking her nipple into his mouth. Skye groaned from the heady feeling. She had a point she wanted to make, but for the life of her she couldn’t remember what it was.

“Oh hell with it.” Skye muttered reaching down to grab him. Maddox inhaled sharply at the feel of her around him.

“Skye I haven’t been with anyone in a long time, so you have to take it easy. I don’t want to finish before we begin.” The pure male look on his face made her snicker.

“I can’t make any promises.” Skye leaned back allowing him complete access to her body. Maddox positioned himself to take her. Their eyes met. Her eyes looked almost drugged from the moment.

Maddox started to slowly push himself inside of her. The building pressure of the moment right before the exquisite feeling would be worth the wait, of that Skye was sure. He froze looking into her eyes.

  “Skye, I lo-,”

  Chapter Seventeen

Skye sat up in her bed panting. Her skin was clammy and covered in sweat. She fell back onto her pillow and groaned loudly. Six months! It had been six months since her break up with Mike and she still felt guilty over it. She was also dreaming about Maddox way too often. She had known it was a dream the entire time, but it was a dream she at least wanted to complete before waking up.

Groaning again she remembered how his hard muscled body had felt against hers making h
er want to whimper. Instead of staying in bed pouting, she got up and went into the shower to wash away the memories of the feel of his skin against her own.

Stepping into the scalding shower, Skye felt ashamed at how quickly she was able to fall into the trap of being around him. She thought she had been stronger than that. Once near him Skye was putty in his hands and that thought didn’t set well with her.

Skye scrubbed her skin harder as if she were trying to rid herself of her own skin and grow another one, a harder, tougher one. His soft lies about being faithful for her were unbelievable, yet she had been willing to overlook that just to be with him again.

Skye turned the shower off and dried herself. She looked into the mirror at her messy pale hair and noticed how her face had matured along with her body. Now if her mind would only keep up.

“Sex isn’t worth your self-dignity.” Skye whispered to herself in the mirror before heading back to her room to change for the day.

She slipped on black jogging pants and a white tank top. She found her sneakers under the bed and threw those on as well. Looking in the mirror she decided that she was in no mood to deal with her long hair. She grabbed a hair band and put it up in a messy bun on her head. Strands were loose everywhere, but somehow the look fit her.

Skye walked downstairs and found her parents and Mike in the dining room waiting for her. She grabbed a cup of milk and sat down waiting to hear the latest news. She knew by the looks on their faces, that the news was not pleasant. Not much had been since the night they had been attacked.

“What’s going on?” Skye finally asked.

“There’s been a vote.” Cloud began but was too choked up to finish. Gary took her hand and looked at his daughter.

“There have been six more demons that have come and attacked our homeland since the first one when you… when you used your other powers.” Skye nodded.

“Yeah and I killed them.” Skye said bluntly making Mike sigh.

“Skye, the people think they are coming here to get you. They are terrified of the demons and of you. They suspect that you will bring only danger here.” Mike said.

Skye looked at him in shock and then to her parents. One look into their eyes confirmed that what Mike had said was true. Skye shook her head in disbelief and in anger.

“I don’t get it. There’s a threat and I take them out so that they can’t hurt anyone else and I’m the bad guy?” Skye stood up.

“What you are is what they fear. There’s only the prophecy telling them what is supposed to happen and no one completely understands that.”

“But, Dad, doesn’t itself that show that not all the proof is here? There’s some prophecy about me ending the world as we know it. So what? It could mean anything! It could mean nothing!”

“A prophecy is serious business darling.” Cloud chimed in.

“Mom, did you know there were oracles that once spoke about the future? They told things that were supposedly coming from the Gods. Years later scientists discovered that they were in caves with fumes which had made them high and delirious and that was why they saw those supposed futures. On Earth we have many fortune tellers. It doesn’t mean squat!” Skye said.

“I hope they are wrong. Either way we will and are standing beside you on this. You are our daughter.” Gary said as Cloud nodded her agreement.

“I am as well.” Mike said catching Skye’s attention. Skye felt awkward around him after the dreams she kept having.

“Mike…” Skye began. He put his hand up stopping her.

“We have been friends for years. Just because I’m too sexy for you doesn’t mean that we can’t still be friends.” He winked making Skye let out a small laugh.

“I appreciate it, from all of you. But I’m not sure what is going to change.” Skye thought for a moment, “You said vote earlier.”

Everyone nodded at once in agreement. Skye had finally came back around to where the conversation had begun. She looked at them trying to figure out what the town had voted on. Not to have more demons show up? Skye wished it were that easy. If they were truly coming here because of her, then the vote could only mean one thing. Skye’s eyes locked on her father.

“Dad? Are they coming after us? The town, I mean.” Skye asked softly.

“They voted for you and anyone on your side to leave. We’ve been banished.”

Banished. The word sounded wrong. Skye couldn’t help but feel like she was in a Shakespearean play. Banished? Evicted?

“I was banished. Not any of you.” Skye said after a moment of hesitation.

“I told you, we are beside you no matter what.” Gary said.

“Which means we have to go as well.” Cloud said.

Skye felt it very hard to swallow suddenly. It was as if a huge lump was caught in her throat. Her pulse was racing and her vision even blurred a bit. She turned away from them to look out the window. She needed a moment to think.

She had to leave her new home. She had been there around two supernatural years. She wondered how long that would be on Earth time. Earth. She turned to face them.

“Where are we banished to?” Skye asked.

“Earth.” Mike answered, not looking at her. She could tell the thought of being back there bothered him. She could muster up a guess. It probably began with ‘MAD’ and ended with ‘DOX’.

“I can’t make you all go back there.” Skye said. “I will go. I’ve made it there before and I can again. You all stay here. Live your life and be happy.”

“I finally have my daughter in my life. There is no way I’m letting you go.” her mother said.

“Mom, I know this place is everything to you.”

“I love my home, I do, but you and Gary are my real life. Any place can be home. Being without either of you again is not a home I want to be part of.” Skye walked over and hugged her mother.

Skye had an immediate connection with Cloud the moment she had been sent there to live, but she had always been closer with her father. Skye hoped she had not missed opportunities to make a better bond with her mother.

Loud noises were heard outside of the front of their home. Skye’s back went straight as she listened. They all went into the living room and looked out of the windows to see what the commotion was.

That’s when they saw all their “friends” and neighbors outside yelling and screaming at the house. Skye suddenly felt like the scary Frankenstein’s monster and the town’s people had come with their pitchforks to run them out of town.

“What do we do?” Cloud looked to Gary. “I know we have to leave, but right now?” Skye opened the front door and walked outside before any of them could attempt to stop her.

The town’s people backed up a few steps but most kept yelling at her for them to leave. Skye looked from face to face taking it all in. It wasn’t hate on their faces. Hate she could have handled. She would have fought hate.

What she did see on their faces was fear in its purest form. These creatures were afraid of her and therefore afraid for their loved ones. Some small children hid behind their mother’s skirts glancing up at Skye in fear.

Skye shook her head. She wanted to explain how destinies were never set in stone. She wanted to tell them that she was no monster. To say that she would never hurt one of them. How her killing the demons had stopped them from murdering the very ones they wanted to protect.

She wanted to, but she knew this crowd would never hear it with an open mind. Fear always seemed to cloud a person’s mind and it only left room for only hate.

“I need to say something.” Skye spoke up. After a few murmurs everyone quieted down and stared at her. No one looked at ease, but it was a start that they were going to listen.

“We will leave. Let us pack our things and we will be out of your hair. I just wanted to state for the record though, that one day you will see I’m not a bad person. You will discover that and you will regret this moment. Not because I’m going to take revenge, but because your hearts will be ashamed o
f yourselves for what you have done. So leave us alone and we will be out in an hour.”

When no one said anything, Skye nodded to them and then walked back into the house. She looked to her three allies with a nod.

“We need to pack.” Skye said. Everyone nodded and quickly scurried off to grab only the things that meant the most to them.

Skye looked out of the window and noticed that most of the protesters had left. Only a few people remained to make sure they would leave. They were kept their distance.

Skye walked up to her room grabbing a few small things she had made with her parents as well as some of her clothes. She grabbed the dresses her mother made for her and that was it. She wanted to leave her room the way it was. She was hopeful that one day she would come back and see it again and wanted it to look the way she remembered it now.

Mike packed next to nothing. What really surprised her was that her parents only took a few small things. Skye looked at them in shock but knew better than to ask.

They all walked outside the front of the home with their things and placed them in a pile. They all joined hands looking at the house.

“I’m going to put up a protection spell so that no one can attempt to enter the house while we are gone.” Gary said. He closed his eyes, envisioning a radiant golden ball around the home.

Skye wanted to gasp at the beauty of it. It was more beautiful than the sun. Gary opened his eyes and smiled at Skye, looking a little proud.

  “Ready?” Cloud asked.

The four of them held hands as they encircled their belongings. Cloud had instructed them to close their eyes and focus on the energy that flowed between them.

“Skye, we are going to focus on you now. You have a home we can go to on Earth…” She struggled to even say the name. “Everyone focus on Skye’s flowing energy. Let it flow through you, in you. Let it enter your heart. Once we feel her warmth, we will push that energy back to Skye and we’ll be in our new home.”

Skye felt when each person had accepted her energy inside of them. She felt connected to them in a way she had never felt before. She could feel their feelings, which was a bit much, but it was so powerful that she accepted it.
