Rachel Thorn, for her sure, wise, and speedy editorial hand on the first draft.

Michael Bhaskar at Canelo, for his tremendous enthusiasm, encouragement, and guidance from start to finish.

Kate Hordern, my wonderful agent, without whom none of the fun would ever have happened.

And lastly, Delia Selwood, who has thrown herself into this book at all stages: as inspiration, fellow-traveller, adviser, and critic – and made it better in every way.
