“What happened?” Poriya said. “I don’t remember seeing the end of the tunnel.”

“Amalia said you would know where we are,” Tallia said.

  “Where are we?” Jeb said.

Poriya scowled as he looked around. “That’s not possible.”

“What? Where are we?” Jeb said.

“If I didn’t know better I would say we are in the woods near the plateau,” Poriya said.

“Amalia was right. You do know where you are, which way then?” Tallia asked.

“Err, that way,” Poriya answered and pointed the way.

  “But how?”

Tallia laughed and said. “Magic,” in a very cheery tone before striding off in the direction Poriya had pointed.

As they left the cover of the woodlands and walked towards the plateau high above them, they could see people looking over the wall at them. The closer they got they could hear the shouting and more heads began to appear rapidly.

By the time they reached the ladder at the foot of the high cliff wall, it looked as if the whole village was looking down at them all shouting and waving. Suddenly two more ladders were dropped over the side, and the three friends took one each and began the climb up with the roar of the crowd above them.

As they reached the top, they were helped over the wall and were surrounded by people all cheering and asking questions at once. Jeb’s parents and Tallia’s mother pushed through with tears streaming down their facing and embraced their children,

Tallia saw that Poriya was being hugged by a particularly pretty woman with long dark hair and wondered who she was but was happy that he had someone special to welcome him home.
