  16. Manson, 207. Contrary to this, Prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi did not believe that either Manson or any member of his Family returned to 10050 Cielo Drive following the murders. “Why would Manson, who had done everything possible to distance himself from the actual crime, return to the scene of a terrible slaughter?” he asked. “Shots and screams had been heard all over the canyon that night, and there is no reason to think that the killers, once they returned to Spahn Ranch, wouldn’t have expected that the crime scene had been discovered at once. Would Manson really have gone back to that house, without knowing if police and officials from the coroner’s office would be present?” However, it should be pointed out that Manson, if he indeed returned to 10050 Cielo Drive, could have determined from Benedict Canyon if the crimes had been discovered. It is possible, therefore, that he cautiously approached the property, discovering from the lack of police lights and activity that the murders had not yet been reported. Vincent Bulgiosi to author.
